Chapter 15: Joy Elliot "Back Home..."
The days have been quite restless. Mother is worried sick that Jack and Nola have not returned from their fishing trip, it's been almost a year since I last saw them. But, we can't go around town saying "Have you seen Princess Nola and Jackson Elliot? We lost them." Because what if they were involved in something and needed to get away, blowing their cover would be terrible. We quietly search for them but... they are either dead or gone. I am a teen now and so is Ella. Ella had a few years left to age up but she felt like she was ready to be a teen. Ella had learned a lot more spells, she has been better about controlling them.

Anyway... I don't leave the house much, we have some much housework to do since me and Ella's work load has been doubled since Jack and Nola vanished. Gosh, I hope they are ok...  Today Ella is fixing the sink that broke, Jack was in charge of fixing things.

That's Ella by the way, she is the spitting image of Eve. When Eve use to work on the house she would make a head wrap out of a scrap of fabric or rag just like Ella does.

We are low on food so I am heading down to Little Mike's.

I arrived and said hello to the cashier (my neighbor) Wanda White.
"Hello Wanda!" I said cheerfully, even though I am not... just trying to make thinks appear normal in my life.
"Hello Joy... Here are you goods." Wanda said putting a crate on the counter full of our food and other needs.
"Thank you! I must be going I have a lot to do today." I said and began to leave.
"Wait... there is someone I want you to meet." Wanda insisted. Then I young women walked in.
"Dally come meet Joy." Wanda said. 
Dally came over and greeted me. We began to talk. Dally had an odd look to her, she was extremely pale (defiantly not a farm girl or fisher, must be a mill worker or possibly a maid?) her eyes were an odd greenish-yellow that almost glowed, and her smile was... odd too, she had teeth like a bear. Not like dirty like oddly pointed...

Despite her looks Dally Willow (her full name I learned) was a very nice girl.

She also had dark, black hair. If you haven't noticed the majority of the people in our working town have tanned, freckled skin and bleached or highlighted hair from the sun, she looked nothing like us.
After a conversation and said I had to leave again. When I got home I helped Ella finish chores and began to cook dinner for 3... not 5... not 7, just 3. I really hope they are ok, I can't bare the thought that I lost another sibling, and Nola, she was like a sister to me. Please let them be ok... please.

Chapter 16: Princess Nola
We have been living off the grid for about a year with Jack and Devon. We are going to be adults very soon and it’s royal tradition that once a Princess turns adult she picks her man. And honestly… I am not ready, I can’t decide between Jack and Devon.  And I really don’t want this to turn into a competition.   I can tell both of them love me. Jack doesn’t want to admit it but, I can clearly tell he does.

So what do I do?!? Again my father loves Devon and would laugh if I chose Jack. Ugh…
“Hey Nola you want to come hunting?” Devon asked walking into our camp.
“I was planning on helping cook dinner with Jack. Is that ok?” I said feeling guilty.

“Oh sure… you know I will stay too… going hunting alone isn’t a good idea.” Devon said. He made a valid point.

Jack came out of the small cabin we made. He sat down next to me. Jack then me and Devon on my left. I felt so guilty. It began to get really cold and the fire couldn’t warm us.
“Let’s head in I think it’s going to snow…” Devon said. I headed into the cabin. We sat eating cold soup for a while.
“When are we going to head home?” Jack asked.
“Do you think it’s safe?” I said.
“Well, only Octavian knew that Jack was a prisoner, he never actually consulted with anyone but himself on punishment.” Devon informed us.
“True, and he is dead.” Jack said.
“Right so… we should head home soon.” I said.
“But before you go Nola, I need to talk to you.”  Devon said.
“Oh sure… what about?” I said.
“Um… I don’t think now is a good time.” Devon said slowly.
“Oh ok well… I think now is a fine time but whatever you feel comfortable with.” I said.
“Well…” Devon said.
“I can take a walk for a while… I will knock when I return…” Jack suggested.
“It’s fine unless you really want to.” Devon said.
“Toss me the blanket I will be fine.” Jack said. Once Jack left, it was me looking at Devon and Devon looking at me.
“So what do you want to talk about?” I asked.
“You know the tradition…” Devon started. I know where this is going.
“Yes…” I said.
“Well, who are you choosing…” He asked. My face when stiff. Everything went stiff. What do I say?
“Ummm…” I panicked.  I felt terrible inside and all the pressure built up pushed out tears.
“Woah!” Devon said in shock. I don’t cry a lot. He came  over and sat next to me and wrapped his arm around me.
“What did I say?” Devon whispered.
“I don’t know Devon…” I said crying.
“Nola… please tell me what’s on your mind… I can’t help if I don’t know.”
“Devon don’t take this the wrong way but I need to talk to Jack alone for a bit…” I said looking up.
“Ok, whatever you need I will go get Jack.” Devon said standing up. A few minutes later Jack walked in.
“Devon told me you needed to talk to me?” Jack said.
“Yes.” I said.
“I don’t know what to do. Do I pick you or Devon?” I came right out and said it.

“What?” Jack said.
“I need to pick a man before I am an adult. It’s between you and Devon.” I stated.
“Oh…” Jack said.
“Look Jack I know you love me, I know.” I said.
“I do. Nola I love you…” Jack admitted.
“So does Devon.” I said.
“I see the problem.”
“Yes.” I said.
“Who do you love?” Jack asked. No one has ever asked me that… for my opinion. It’s all been decided for me. I  have never thought I loved anyone… but how do you tell? Do I love? I looked up at Jack.
“I love you.” I said.

Chapter 16: Princess Nola
Today we are heading back to the Elliot's house, they probably think we are dead. I haven't talked to Devon about Jack yet... I will go talk to him once we reach town again. I hope he accepts it. Knowing Devon I think he will but then again he loves me.

Once we arrived home Joy hugged Jack with a running start, Ella came charging in shortly after. It was heart warming to see the girls expressions when we returned home. My, have they grown up too! Next, they hugged me.
"I thought you were dead!" Joy exclaimed.
"Me too!" Added Ella.
"We are much alive." I said.
"Where were you?" Ella asked. That's when me and Jack sat down and told the girls the story start to finish. That took about an hour. Then I decided to announce the news.
"Girls..." I started and nudged Jack.
"We have and announcement." Jack said.
"Me and Jack are now a..." I said.
"COUPLE! I KNEW IT JOY!" Ella blurted out.
"Yes we are." Jack concluded.
"Are you getting married?!?!?" Ella asked with pure excitement.
"Eventually." I said.
"YAY!" The girls cheered.
"I think they approve." Jack said. I laughed.
"I should go talk to Devon..." I said getting up.
"I think you should..." Jack said.

I walked over the the prison where Devon works as a guard.
"Hello." I said softly walking into the small living space of the prison.
"Nola." He said happily.
"I made my decisions." I said.
"Uh-huh." Devon said.
"I chose Jackson..." I said.

"Congratulations Nola, he is a great man for you!" Devon sound very accepting.
"Thank you so much Devon, and when it comes time to tell my father, will you help?" I asked.
"Yes I will happily help you." Devon said.
"And when you find a girl and get married... I will make you and your family part of my royal court, I promise you that." I said.
"Really?!? Thank you so very much Nola! Your a wonderful friend!" Devon cheered.
"As are you. I should be heading back though, I am exhausted." I said.
"I will see you soon." Devon said and I left.  Once home I crawled into bed. It felt good to have a bed again.

Chapter 17: Nola: The Day I Take Jack Home

It is the truth that I must return to my princessy ways and go back home. But this time, I must take Jackson with me. It is going to be a long ride there but, I have to.

The day starts with birthdays. First Jackson...

Jack as an Adult (young adult that is.) Look how pretty I look... I have to look good to present myself to my mother and father,

Then me...


Shortly Jack and I were off to the inner Kingdoms. I feel a bit nervous but... its just my parents. I packed a large truck of clothing and put it on my horse. We road off.

When we arrived at the inner Kingdom Jack was in awe.
"WOW!" He said. I laughed.
"You lived here?" Jack asked.
"Yes..." I said.




When a guard spotted me coming he announced my arrival with a blowing of the trumpet.
"THE PRINCESS HAS ARRIVED!!!" announced a guard.
We walked into the main gates. We were lead up to the guest room to get ready before seeing my parents. My old servant was thrilled to see me.
"Nola!" My old servant exclaimed.
"Heather my dear!" I hugged her.
"The King and Queen are out currently but will be back in two hours... you better hurry!" Heather announced.
Heather set a stack of towels on the bed and left.
"I am nervous." Jack announced.
"Don't be! We have to get ready to present you..."

"I will give you a grand tour of the Kingdom once you are accepted... I will sent a guard to get Devon." I said feeling nervous.

Two hours later: Heather ran in.
"The King and Queen have requested to meet with you in the great hall." She announced from the door way.
"Thank you Heather." I said and told Jack to wait for Heather before entering the Hall. I made my way there.

I entered the Hall. Some of the seats were filled by royal council members (trusted citizens outside kingdom walls).  I felt a rush when everyone turned and looked at me. I walked like I didn't see them. Up the long aisle I made my way to my seat in the front of the hall between my mother and father.

My father stood up. I looked over at Devon and Aurora (you will meet her later).

"Attention members!" My father announced. "Hail Royals." The members chanted once back.
"We are gathered her one behalf of Nola."
"Today we will observe Nola's choice of partner. He will either be accepted or denied."
"Welcome the choice." My father announced. Everyone turned around and Heather walked out with Jack.
"Step forward." My father said. Jack slowly walked up.
"Nola stand." My father ordered.

"Is this him?" My father asked.
"Yes indeed, this is my choice in man." I said.
"What is his name?" Asked my mother.
"Jackson Elliot."I said.
"The boy form the outer town?" My mother whispered to me.
"Yes he is... he is a fine man who has cared for me many times." I said.
"Devon, Aurora? What is your thoughts." My father asked. Aurora got out of her seat to preform a quick test... I hope Devon warned Jack about this!!!
"I will see..." Aurora said in her sassy voice. She circled Jack once. Then stopped in front of him. She fluffed her hair and recoiled to punch Jack. Jack blocked her punch.

"Very good... He is a fine man." Aurora concluded. The test was to see how fast Jack's reflexes were in case of sudden attack.
"Devon?" My father asked.
"I have known Jackson for quite I while now... fine man, he will treat Nola well." Devon said.
"He is a outer town man!" My father laughed.
"You cannot be serious!" My father laughed again.
"I am very much serious father... not all kings will be from a rich inner kingdom family." I said in anger.
"Remove him... we must discuss." My mother concluded. Me and Jack left the hall.
"How did it go?" Heather whispered eagerly outside the hall.
"It could go either way." I said.
"I see."
"Nola RETURN!" I heard my father announce. I returned to the hall as asked.
"Yes?" I said.
"He is..." My father said "Accepted..."
A cheer rippled through the hall.
"BUT!" He said the the ripple came to a hush "one slip up and he is gone!" My father boomed. The cheered rippled again. Jack returned.
"Meeting over!" Devon announced. Once everyone had left the room Jack walked up and down the aisle with pride.


Later, I met Aurora in the study.
"So..." Aurora said. She has an odd tone of voice very sarcastic, sassy and mocking no matter what she says.
"Yes Aurora..." I said playfully back.
"Hello girls!" Devon chimed in playfully. I gave him that look that says "Leave I am talking..."

"Ohhh... I see." Devon said and backed away.
"Continue." I say to Aurora.
"Yes, I was just want to say I am shocked on your choice of man!" Aurora said.
"I love him." I said.
"Darling I don't know much about love but I swear you and Devon were going to be together!" Aurora laughed.

"I am not going to lye it was a hard choice to be made." I said.
"Alright dear... I will see you tomorrow get some sleep." Aurora said and patted my hand. Aurora is not my sister if you a wondering, nor is she Devon's, Aurora's father was a knight and died in battle, Aurora was an amazing fighter but she couldn't be a knight, that would go against code, my father loved her almost as much as he loves me, so he let her be a "Guardian". That is a title my father made up which basically means a lady knight but minus the title of knight. That is why she wears a chain mail dress.

Aurora seems like an interesting character! I'm so happy Nola's parents accepted Jack. Nola is a very pretty young adult.
