Chapter 34: Devon: Final Chapter
“Who is Faith?” I asked Ella.
“She is the person who creates fear, she is the person who stands behind every horror story of this kingdom, she is the person who WILL make you doubt what you believe in…” Ella answered.
“Is she dangerous…” Nola asked.
“More than a million fighting men…”
“Tenth Stroke… what does that mean?” I say. Ella reaches into her bag and pulls out an old leather book.

She whispers something under her breath and the books pages flutter onto a page where the letters glow.
“Ten o’clock… she will arrive.” Ella says.

“Its five… we don’t have much time!!!” Joy screams.
“GET THE CHILDREN AND LEAVE AS FAR AWAY AS YOU CAN GO!” Ella says sternly and then begins thumbing through her books.

Joy asks no questions and before I know it she is loading her horse. I follow her and before she rides off I grasp Alexander’s hand…
“Stay strong…” I whisper and kiss his head for what may be the last time. Tears stream down my face.
“Go! Quickly!” I yell and run inside chocking back emotions. When I meet up with Ella, Jack and Nola I find Ella ordering all the knights and guards to leave the kingdom.
“What are you doing?!?” I ask.
“This war will not be won with the power of men…”  Ella answers. The guards and knights are gone now.
“ITS EIGHT!!!” Screamed Nola.
“We have nothing to do but wait…” Ella says dropping the book hopelessly.
“What? We cannot prepare??!?” Nola cries. Jack holds Nola close to him. I have no one to hold.
“We cannot load weapons we have to wait…”
BONG-BONG-BONG-BONG-BONG-BONG-BONG-BONG-BONG the bell chimed.
“Nine…” Nola whispered and tears rolled down her cheeks.
We wait…
BONG-BONG-BONG-BONG-BONG-BONG-BONG-BONG-BONG-BONG
Then all the candles in the room go out.
The sound of babies crying eco from the nursery. But we know the children are long gone.
Soft eerie singing rings in the ceiling.
Footsteps run down the hall and stop at our door. Now it is dark and our hearts are pounding...
“Goodbye.” A child’s voice outside our door. I squint my eyes shut. Why is Faith torturing us?
The candles flash on. And the door swings open. Writing is scrawled across the door.
“Go to the pond or forever suffer here…” Nothing is making sense, I don’t begin to comprehend.
“Our pond?” Jack asked.
“I am guessing…” Ella says leading the way out the door.
When we arrive at the pond we see 4 children and 1 teenager running around the yard.

“Who are they?” I ask.
“They’re…” Jack began
“Us…” Ella finished in shock. I am completely confused at what we are watching.

Then the unthinkable happens one drowns… and then another… it was the teen girl and another younger girl drowns.

“Eve… Grace…” Ella and Jack say in unison. The other children are all crying.
“Something in the water!!!” Nola screams jumping back. My mind was fluttering all this happening at once with no knowledge to what will happen or what we will see next.
The water turned to the colors of blood. Emerging was a woman.
She walked out of the water trailing behind her was the blood-colored water. She was mumbling something and was walking forward like we weren’t even there. I look over and Jack has Nola huddled close. Jack takes Ella’s hand. I stand alone.
“Mom…” Ella whispers to Jack in panic.
“Mom!” Jack says running to the house.
He comes out of the house holding his frail mother close. Then the sky blackens.
“Jack what has happened?” Jack’s mother says like it’s just an average day.
“Do not worry mom…” He says walking her to the group. His mother looks confused.
The woman from the water reappears. She stands in front of us.
“Thank you…” She laughed. We all looked puzzled.

“For getting rid of all my competition…” She said like we already knew. We were very lost.
“Ugh… all those times someone tried to attack the kingdom… THEY were my obstacles to completing my plan” She elaborates.
“Now you are my final completion to ruling this kingdom.” She completes. “Now if you excuse me I will continue my plan… Oh, and excuse me for being rude… I am Faith it is a pleasure to meet you.” She cackled.
I flash a look at Ella to see what she has planned. Her eyes are wide and she looks confused.
Faith begins to says a spell.
“It’s just and illiusion…” Jack’s mother says and begins to walk toward the house.
“I don’t think so mom… but… I…” Jack says confused.
“It’s starting…” Ella gasps. “Jep-tu-ma-key” Ella says a quite spell.
“What does that do?” I ask.
“Un-does minor spells…” She answers.
“Mom it is not an illusion. Go inside and lock the doors make no sound.” Jack orders his mother.
“See?” Ella asks me.
“What do we do?” Nola asks Ella.
“I can’t do anything!” Ella snaps. Faith is casting the longest spell I have ever heard.
“In the house!” Ella commands. We pile into the small kitchen.
“What makes her powerful?” I ask trying to use war tactics.
“Control over the mind and fears…” Ella answers.
“Good.” I say in response.
“How is mind control good?” Ella asks.
“That is not what is good, what is good is that we know what makes her powerful.” I answer. “Now we need a way to keep our minds stable…” I propose the next step.
“Well the minor spell and charm reversal will do.” Ella says.
“Good. We will use that whenever our minds drift.” I say.
“What was that?!?” Nola cries. We hush. An old woman crying ecos.
“Mom!” Jack calls.
“It’s not real.” Ella says.
“It is Ella! How can you be so stubborn! Where is she?” Jack cries.
“Jep-tu-ma-key.” Ella repeats and the crying goes away.
“How long can we do this?” I ask.

“I got a plan!” Ella says.
“What is it?” I say.
“Thanks to Devon getting us off the ground, I have a plan to over throw Faith.” Ella says.
“Go on…” Nola pipes up.
“She is all about power of the mind… and WE are the ones she is trying to overthrow. If I continue to use the un-doing spell, we will be fine until she gives up.” Ella announces.
“So… we just use your little spell to overthrow Faith?” Nola says skeptically.
“Precisely. She is not as powerful as we believe. If we can prevent her effects by a simple spell she is practically powerless.” Ella says calmly.
“Simple enough… So we head back to the kingdom?” Jack says.
“This seems kind of weak for such a large threat…” Nola laughs as we walk back to the kingdom.
“Perhaps… but the threat was large in theory, but once we were collected the threat was minuscule.

Half way back to the kingdom Faith reappears. Startling Ella who was leading us home.

“YOU LEAVE ME NO CHOICE BUT TO KILL YOU!” She gasps and her eyes are red with rage.

“NO! PLEASE…” Nola cries.

“Jep-tu-ma-key.” Ella whispers in Nola’s ear. She instantly calms.
“Well I guess you will just kill us now…” Ella jokes. Faith becomes furious and begins to cast a spell. Ella wraps her arms around us and repeats the un-doing spell.
“UGH! You are all so silly for messing with me… I will return for your lives one day.” Faith yells and her eyes beaming red and anger boiling inside her.

Then she disappears.
“She won’t be returning.” Ella laughed.
“Excuse me… but, this was all quite silly in my opinion. Such a dramatic build up for a very simple mind trick.” Nola says.
“So everything was in our heads?” I ask Ella.
“Well, Faith was correct about the part that we killed off all her competition and when she said she was trying to rule the kingdom. But the fears coming true and the repeating of traumatic events were in placed in our minds.  Only we experienced these events.” Ella says.
“So the kingdom has no more predators?” Nola asks.
“Correct, for our life time at least…” Ella says. Her phrase rein true for over a hundred and ninety years. Alexander and I were reunited. Joy, Ella, Jack and their mother Sarah were all together. Nola and Jack raised Celia. When we became elderly, Celia and Alexander married and ruled the kingdom for years after our passing. At the turn of the century Celia and Alexander passed and their son William took the throne marring a rich daughter of an estate owner. Her name was Samantha. After they died in 1960. Their son Michael married Cathy and they ruled until the turn of the century.
In what is known as modern day, Michael and Cathy’s daughter Addison married Caleb. The kingdom has suffered from no more than minor threats and issues since our deaths. As we watch over the kingdom we see how much the kingdom has thrived since our days on earth.

Thank you to all who read but do not comment and those who read and comment. I am surprised that this story got so many views, considering I did not plan it very well due to the sudden death of 2 of the main characters. Like I have said before, this story took a completely different route than what I had planned. Anyway thank you too all who read, I hope you enjoyed.

What a great story! I enjoyed it a lot, and the characters were great. I'm sorry Devon was alone at the end. :( But I'm glad everything worked out! It was definitely cool seeing how the royal family continued in the later centuries. Congratulations on finishing Spork! ;D
