Chapter 18: Aurora:Speaking the Bad News
Well hello there, Aurora Kinlyn speaking.

This Jackson Elliot man concerns me deeply, he cannot be king, he has no leadership. Nola, is strong but not strong enough to be a ruler. They are far from ready. I do not even believe Jackson knows of the quest. I must tell him before the King is aware, Jackson will be banished for being unaware of the world he has entered. I must tell him now. But, Nola must not be there she would not be content with the quest that Jack must complete. Where is Nola anyway?  Oh, good she is playing chess with the Queen in the courtyard.

Perfect timing.
"Jackson, I need to talk to you..." I said.
"But I was heading to bed..." he began.
"Now." I said. He obeyed as he should, he is not stamped with approval and respect in my book.
"Ok then Aurora." He said.
"Your not ready." I blurted out.

"For what?" Jack sounded confused.
"Everything! Marriage, Nola, and being king!" I was angry now.

"Huh?"
"Look you know nothing about being royalty and you better learn or your out." I said. He looked confused.
"The quest." I say.
"You need to survive a day of handling the kingdom on your own and then you need to complete the journey of fallen kings." I said.

"Help." He says. I explain. He is shocked.
"Yes, well you better begin training tomorrow." I said.
"With who? Where? When?" He asks like an idiot.
"Tomorrow, sun comes up, beyond the labyrinth, Devon and I." I said and got up. Ugh, I can't believe I have to train him! It will be a long worthless morning.

MORNING: I woke while it was still quite dark out.

I met Devon at breakfast (it was just us, we get up hours before anyone else).
We go through the confusing labyrinth and wait in the back yard of the kingdom. We wait an hour. Nothing.
"Stupid boy." I say out loud.
"Be patient Aurora!" Devon snapped.
"Well I am sorry, but he is a worthless king to us and if doesn't complete training he would be banished. Being late will not get him anywhere." I snapped back.
"What if he got lost in the labyrinth?!?" Devon said concerned.
"He must find his way, the quest is not a easy route." I said.
"We are doing this for Nola." Devon said in a tone that sounded almost sad.
"Devon, did I upset you in some way." Devon is a knight and doesn't get sad, something must be bothering him extremely.
"Its nothing I just have something on my mind." Devon said softly.
"Well tell me, having a cloudy mind is bad for a knights fighting." I said because it is true.
"Aurora..." He said and paused.

"Yes." I make my voice softer.
"I love you." Devon said looking straight at me.
"Devon..." I was speak less.   Devon loves me? I have never been loved like that.  I'm loved. I am loved.

Chapter 19: Nola
I had a very difficult night of sleep, the only thing on my mind was "The Quest". I just don't want to put Jack in danger... again.

But, I managed to fall asleep after countless tosses and turns.

I was woken but Heather.
"Miss Nola..." She whispered sitting at the foot of the bed.
"What time is it?" I moaned as I sat up.
"Almost lunch... your very late. Come, let me get you ready." Heather pulled the covers off from me. I sat up and stretched.
Heather pulled out a read dress and began to lace up my corset. I held my breathe and Heather pulled the laces.

When Heather left to prepare lunch, I groaned. Corsets are a torture devise not an undergarment! I wasn't hunger and decided to skip lunch. Instead I watched Devon and Aurora train Jackson about fighting, I worried more and more.

Training finished up, Devon and Aurora chatted when Jack left. I watched them wondering what they were saying. Aurora gave Devon and friendly nudge, but then the unthinkable happened... Devon wraps his arm around Aurora and Aurora looks up and kisses him right on the cheek! WHAT! NO ONE TOLD ME... DEVON AND AURORA... AURORA, HOW COULD SHE NOT TELL ME?!?
I ran down the stairs and ran right into Heather.
"What is the matter my lady?" Heather said stopping me... it was all to much for me, Devon and Aurora, Jack and the Quest...

I couldn't speak and then I clutched my stomach, I turned just in time to vomit on the ground dodging Heather by an inch or so.

Oh dear! I hope Nola will be okay! And Jack too. This quest makes me nervous. Devon and Aurora make a cute couple! ;D (By the way, the last picture shows up fine for me.)

I love this story. I'm not sure how old you are, but for someone so young, you have an excellent command of language and storytelling (that comes from the teacher in me). I love the romance and intrigue and the medieval quality of the story (from the romance lover in me). I can't wait to hear more about your characters. I must admit, I've been on the fence about Jack. Evil people don't change. But I'm willing to give him a chance. If he fulfills his quest, he will be deemed worthy by me ;)

Hi Spork-tastic, I just realized that the last picture doesn't show up for me, either. I thought the one of Nola and Heather talking was the last one, but then I read it on my phone and saw a blue box at the end. Maybe you erased the picture after you copied the link into the story?

Hm... odd. The last picture was with Heather and Nola talking. I have no explanation for the blue box.

Chapter 20: Aurora Counting down the days until the Quest

"I could bet all the gold coins in the kingdom that Jack will leave for the Quest and never return..." I whispered to Devon at dinner. Heather passed to collect plates and poured us another glass of wine.
"Aurora, I hate to agree but... you right, he can't do this." Devon said then sipping his glass of wind. Devon and I are spending the evening together. It will be fun... yet I am nervous, I am never nervous.

After dinner was cleared Devon and I went up to the study.

"Hello there." I greet Devon.
"Hello, Aurora." He said. My heated pounded harder than in battle.
"So... what do you want to do?" I asked confused. It all happened so fast.
Now we are on a date? I don't remember him asking but ok...

We were talking but super close.

Then he asked me something and I said something else.

Then for some reason we were in the collection room kissing (the first kiss).
Then you would not believe what I asked Devon...
"Would you care to spend the night in my chambers?" I asked then began to internally freak out.

Oh gosh!

This is so weird...

Then he whispered something... the wine I drunk at dinner impaired both our judgements.

This is embarrassing! I came to my scenes" before we could get anywhere....
"Stop... sorry, its all to fast, you should leave... I have to prepare some supplies for Jack's quest." I said turning away and wiggling from his arms.
"I'm so sorry..." He apologized I just stayed put and waited until her left.

I laid in bed for awhile thinking about everything. Then Nola tip toed in.
"Are you still awake?" She whispered.
"Yes..." I said.
"I think we should talk... I can't sleep either." She said walking in more with a candle in her hands. We did these all the time when we were younger we called them Candlelight Chats and now we are having one.
"Why can't you sleep?" I asked.
"The Quest." She said. I didn't say anything.
"I don't think he can do it..." She said "What do you think?"
"He can't... you might as well call off the Quest and let him go home to his mother and sisters." I said.
"But..." She started.
"You love him... I know." I said. She sighed.
"Or... you can let him risk his life on the Quest with a one and a million chance of ever seeing him again, your choice." I said. I have grown to dislike Jack, he caused more trouble than good. Nola began to cry, now I felt bad. Nola is my best friend and somewhat a sister to me, I hate to see her cry.
"Shhh... it will be ok." I whispered hugging her. But in my mind it won't be ok and Nola will end up single both ways. We both eventually fell asleep sprawled out on top of the covers. What will Nola choose?

I think Jack will be able to do the quest! I hope Nola won't send him away.
