You don't need to! Just download the right patch from Moons' link. Reinstalling didn't work for me (actually it made it worse), so I wouldn't consider doing it yet, until you definitely have no choice at all.

Oh, I see! I shall do this tomorrow then when I'm on the simming laptop! :D Actually, being online will remind me to update my simself as well - she's still blonde where as I'm a brunette with green ends. :P

I found the crashing diagnose tool - Really easy to find  ;). I got two diagnoses:

-"Corrupt save" (which is weird because I have no .bad files and I didn't get an error message, but it did crash while I was saving so I guess it's possible) and
-"Insufficient memory installed". Which is really weird too I think. I do have only 2 GB installed, but my old laptop had the same and with a very crappy graphics card, and the game only crashed after Pets, and was fixed by changing the paging files thing. Hmmm.

EDIT: Darn EA!!!!!!! every expansion pack I have installed except Generations and Pets are totally out of date!

@Fez

There's definitely no reason to reinstall. Just follow that link and download the appropriate patches.

@Frey

I don't think you'd need to do another factory reset since the patches will be applied to all of your sims 3 folders. Just remove your unmentionables. Drag them to the desktop or something and you should be good.

Well, I did it anyways. I'm fed up with this crashing thing so I will not risk any chances  ::), even if that means losing my Dynasty for the 1.000.000th time. I just want to be able to play the stupid game without having to worry about when it's going to crash. This is getting really annoying, specially because I have no exact idea of what is going on. I'm an inch close to throwing both my Sims DVDs and the laptop to the lake beside my house, LOL.

I know how you feel. I've also become very frustrated with this crashing thing. I'm going to do some more playing and see if my game crashes or if patching really did help.

I think this may have worked! I've been running Appaloosa for an hour and it's still there!!!!!!!! Fingers crossed that this time it will last!

That's good news! I've been playing without crashes as well, so maybe this will wind up being a permanent fix.

I'm at the beginning of reinstalling all my games after doing the uninstall steps on this Technical Forum and Base Game with no updated patches and no added extras, just as it was worked seemingly fine (played about half an hour with a testing sim, Cloud McLongfoot).

I'm on a pc and my graphics card can run Skyrim, Star Wars:The Old Republic, just quite a few games with no problems AND I played Pets with no problems with crashing for about the first 5 or 6 weeks. It seems my crashing started some time in December, possibly late December so for me I really think this issue is to do with that last patch. I have really missed my game and am needing something nice and relaxing to play!!!

I'd had no mods and no CC, just the clean games installed. I had done the factory reset and adding the expansion packs to the DEP thing, still crashed. Yesterday I tried using those that cannot be mentioned until next week but still crashing after 30 seconds in Live Mode.

I'm so tempted to just play the game with only the expansion packs that I want (namely WA and Ambitions, I would like LN too but Bridgeport kept crashing for me) and making sure not to patch the latest patch (however one does that). Please, EA, give me back my sims :)

Right, so.. Clicking that link Moons posted above and downloading the latest patch will patch up all my EPs, right? I just get a little confused when you mentioned all the EPs before Gen not being patched and stuff.

What I meant by that was that before Generations, patches were applied to the individual EP/SP. After Generations, it was applied to the base game. Because of this, EA only automatically patches the base game, and for some reason, feels no need to automatically do the smaller patches too. You will have to do the latest patch for each EP and SP you have. I had to manually download and run the patches for WA, HELS, AMB, FL, LN, and OLS.

@Darkhadia

I would start with going to the website I mentioned a couple posts ago and patch up all your EP/SPs before Generations. If it still doesn't work, go back a few posts, and read where I gave instructions on how to alter your paging files. If your video card can run Skyrim okay, then I don't know why Sims is giving you trouble!

Ok thank you. :) I clicked on the link, but there isn't a logo for TLS? Basically, I go through each one in order of release and download the latest patch for each, right? But TLS isn't there. :-\ Sorry if I'm getting this all wrong, by the way - I probably am, technological things have never been my strongest area. :P

Hah, it's ok. TLS isn't there because it came out after Generations. Games after Generations don't have individual patches. For example, say there was a glitch in TLS and EA went to fix it. They would take that fix and just lump it in with the next patch, which would be applied to the base game. All the EPs and SPs that I listed are the only ones that have an individual patch. Assuming you're going in order, once you patch OLS, you are done.

Do you think maybe it has, then, to do with this new system of only updating the base game? Since post-Generations is just Town Life Stuff and Pets and all the bother seems to have happened because of Pets? Although, like I said, I ran Pets fine for the first month or two and then it started crashing so maybe it is patch 1.29...so confusing xD

I haven't installed any of the expansions after the base game. I'm tempted to see if that on it's own has no crashing issues because, for a few days, it would be worth having even just the base game around for a fun sims experience before continuing on with this stressful crashing thing.

Would be interesting to read the patch notes for the next patch for after Showtime, to be honest, to see if they sneak in a fix there. Never, ever had a problem with The Sims until these last few months!
