Fez, that's actually a very good idea to keep a backup for when a new patch comes out. I'm not familiar with the specific error you're getting, though. :-\

I did have one, it's just dated extremely long ago in my game, although it doesn't work either. My theory is that whatever file I attempt to try gets ruined by the new patch right away, which is really weird because I've played these files before. I have a new idea which is to just retry the backups, but rename them this time before I try them. Of course, this is hardly going to work, though, unless some miracle happens. :P I just really didn't want to restart. ::)

I'll try this tonight and if it doesn't work I'm just restarting straight away. I already have an idea for what will happen in my current legacy to lead to the new legacy. :P

Thanks though for your help, Frey and Moons! At least the crashing in my just-for-fun file stopped which means your suggestions must have worked, and it's just my legacy file that's the problem. :)

Despite the loss of your legacy Fez, I'm glad I was at least able to fix your just-for-fun game! I wish you luck on your restart. :)

I think this is definitely not a graphics card issue. My sweet, lovely, best-of-all mother agreed to exchange her gaming laptop with my ugly bad, very bad laptop, and Appaloosa is still crashing. The graphics card is an Nvidia Geforce 310M with CUDA (no idea what that means), and although it's not in Ea's supported graphics cards list, the game runs extremely smooth. Plants and trees actually look like plants and trees, and pets don't look like fluffy walking balls... and I can see shadows! but Appaloosa is still crashing. The other worlds run well and with no major troubles though. I doubt it's a memory issue either, because my C: drive is now only half full and the D: is like 80% empty. I will try what Moons suggested before... but it's definitely not a graphics thing, in my opinion  ???.

I had that exact card on my old laptop. I actually figured out how to do all this stuff with that graphics card, and increasing the paging file definitely worked. Make sure you add everything to the DEP list, too.

But I agree, it's not a graphics issue. My game has recently started crashing again since I installed Master Suite, but I'm tweaking the paging file more to see if I'm just going to need to make it bigger for each expansion, which could potentially be a problem. My paging file is rather large right now. Let me know if it works, Frey. It should.

It did, I think. At least I was able to play for an hour or so without crashing  :). Bad news is, I was making an Appaloosa makeover and lost like half of what I had done when the game grashed. Well, I guess that's my fault for not saving regularly  ::).

OK, no it didn't  :'(. Yesterday it was fine, but today I loaded my Appaloosa file and it crashed after 5 minutes. Maybe I didn't do the virtual memory thing right?

The thing is that the currently asigned numbers for C: and D: are 1972, while the recommended numbers are 2958. So What I did was set the minimum to 1972 and the maximum to 2958... but now I realize it's actually the same thing  ;D. So, what should I do?  ???

I only used the other sizes as approximate gauges because the numbers seemed to be bigger, but it's not important to match them. Just try setting minimum to 3000 and maximum to 5000. If it still doesn't work, just increase maximum by 1000 until it seems to work. My maximum is currently set to 11000 for both drives with all the EPs and SPs... it's a lot, but I have room to spare.

It didn't work   :'(. This is really weird, because now it's happening even in Sunset Valley and I can't play the game anymore. I did yet another factory reset and the first 2 or 3 sim-days it was OK, but then it crashed too. Since then everytime I open the game the crash happens more quickly, and now Appaloosa won't even load before it does. Sunset Valley does work for a little while, but 15-20 minutes after it loads it crashes also. I haven't tried with Twinbrook or Bridgeport but my guess is that it would be the same thing, since Sunset Valley has always been the healthiest world of all. I have no .bad files, and it happens both in old save files and new ones. I even tried with some... unmentionable things that I was told would fix the issue, but they made no difference. Right now I'm guessing my only hope is that the new patch (that will probably be released not long after Showtime?) fixes it, but I'm not so sure.

Any new suggestions?  :(

Crashing came back for me too. :-\ I'm hoping for the new patch to fix this.

My crashing has come back lately, too. However, I have never had crashing in SV or Riverview, which are the two most basic towns. Although, I recently used a crash diagnostic tool, and a couple of my crashes were diagnosed as not being patched. Before Generations, patches were applied to the individual EP and SP. But if you do a reinstall, you will only get the most recent patch, and your pre-Generations games will remain unpatched. I've only had one playing session for a few hours in Lunar Lakes where I was getting crashes. And then I had no crashes. It's possible that I just didn't play long enough, but it's also possible that patching worked! Here's a link to simprograms' game patches. Click on the appropriate EP/SP, scroll down to the latest patch and make sure you click on the right download. The one labeled English is for physical disks. The other one is for digital copies, at least that's how it worked for me. I have a combination of both.

Keep me posted on if any of this works!

I am patched up, and my crashing is always in Sunset Valley - I play in no other town. Could just be my horrid laptop but it's really suspicious that I'm not the only one with this problem, that started at the exact same time. Again, fingers crossed for the new patch!

Hmm that makes a lot of sense! I just did a reinstall a week or ten days ago. Well, I actually moved to a new laptop, but that's the same. I will go with another factory reset to clean my game of the unmentionable things (just to be sure, because they have caused me no trouble) and look for the patches. I will also browse that tool you mentioned, I have an idea where to find it  :P.

Thanks a lot for the help again Moons, you're the best :). Now I'm fingers crossed that it will help!

@Fez, if I got Moons right, having your Launcher say that you're patched up doesn't necessarily mean that you actually are. Maybe you should check that, if you haven't already.

Oh sorry, I didn't understand it that way. Gosh, reinstall will take ages, but I suppose I'll have to do it! :P I'll do this on Friday then, after school. :) Thankyou!
