Right, I decided to swap them round and put the inital size to what is in my currently allocated, then max size to the recommended.. Hope this works.  :-\

Frey said just increasing C worked. I have both C and D increased, but I bet just C would work for me too. Let me know if this works. If not, I'll give you some more specific information about numbers to try.

Okay, thank you. :) I am attempting to run the game now.

EDIT: Aaand as soon as I click post, I go upstairs to check on my loading legacy and it's crashed.  :-\  Weird thing is.. It can't handle twenty minutes of loading my legacy, but I started a brand new game and could play a whole hour of it before it crashed..

Please don't let this be a problem with my legacy. :( I can't even get into the game before it crashes to save the family to the clipboard and move them towns..

Ok, Fez. I'm going to need you to do a couple things for me. Open the Start menu and click computer. Under "Local Disk C:" and "Local Disk D:" it'll show the size of the drive, and it will show how much room is currently available on each drive. Tell me those sizes. You may be having a problem if both of these are really full. After that, I'll give you some number suggestions to go into your paging file.

Thanks, Moons. :)

Here you go:

System (C:) 15.1 GB Free of 67.3 GB

Data (D:) 11.2 GB Free of 32.7 GB

Then it has a bit that says 'Devices with Removable Storage' and underneath that is my Town Life disc which I currently have in the laptop. It says:

DVD RW Drive (E:) Sims3SP04 0 bytes free of 1.83 GB

0 Bytes? :o Is this bad?

As you can see, I don't have much memory left on this laptop, which is weird because we did a complete factory reset on the laptop just a few months ago, for the first time in the six years we've had it, and that wiped the tons of stuff that was on it yet my game worked fine before then and suddenly now it doesn't - plus the memory is now suddenly full. :o

That's not bad at all. The E: drive is your disk drive. It's saying that your sims disk is full, that's all. Nothing to do with your computer. Well, you seem to have a bit of storage left on your C drive. Is there any way you can uninstall some programs? Just go to Start>Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall Programs. It will show a list of all the programs you have installed. See if there's anything that's unnecessary, like Bing Bar or a web browser you don't use. If you're not sure and don't want to uninstall anything, that's fine. Try this:

Just use your C drive. It says the recommended is 3055. So set Initial to 5000 and set Maximum to 8000. This will set aside approximately 4.9-7.8GB of your C drive just for the paging file. Now that's a bit of room, but if it works, it works. You may have to install any new programs to your D drive instead of C. Let me know how it goes! I'm determined to do all I can to help!

Thanks so much, I'll have a look and see if there are any unwanted programs and then change those settings. :)

EDIT: It worked! I was able to play my just-for-fun file for two whole hours and no crash at all! :D I have yet to try my legacy, but I'll try it next week because I know if I tried it today I would get sucked in and not revise for my up and coming exams which start in a week, but the two hours thing is a brilliant sign! Thank you so so much, Moons! :D

Well, in between revising, I managed to boot up the laptop and attempt a run at my legacy...

Crashed after 20 minutes, as usual. I'm beginning to think that the problem is the file. I can't think why it suddenly just started crashing. I hope, and doubt, it's the file but my guess is the laptop can't handle such a large file. I have a save of the file as it is now on a disc for me to continue the legacy on my new computer, but it will only be here earliest May and latest something like December, providing nothing goes wrong. (It depends on how long the stuff we need to save for remains at it's price and things.) Perhaps I need to throw my 'get to generation 18 by the end of the year' New Year's Resolution out of the window. :-\  Oh well, I suppose it's better than not having any new computer at all and just having to give up the legacy and all long-term games up forever! :)

Fez, I'm sorry about this but I really think your file is either corrupted or too heavy for your computer to handle. I hope your new computer arrives soon and that the file is not corrupted  :) .

I agree with Frey. My last suggestion would be to lower the resolution if you can, but I'm thinking it may actually be your save file. :-\

Luckily, I have about a million backups. :P I shall try those, silly me didn't think to try them earlier!

Well I gave the backup a go, and it shut down just the same. This backup is dated before the latest chapter of my legacy, so it couldn't have been corrupt as I have played it before. I retried with a factory reset but it made no difference. Seeing as I have played it before just fine, I doubt it is the laptop. I have a sneaking suspicion this was the recent patch's fault, even though I have played with it fine as well. If it's not the patch, I'm out of ideas. If this can't be fixed, it's the end of my legacy, so I'm really hoping it is the patch and that I'll get this fixed with the next one..

Otherwise, I'm restarting. I am not giving up on my thirty gen dream! :P

I'm sorry to hear that, Fez. I've had a patch screw up my game once before, so I think that's possible. The bad thing is, in my case at least the file got totally corrupted and there was no way to fix it, not even when another patch was released later. Moons can confirm this, as I'm no computer expert whatsoever, but I think once the file is corrupt there's not much you can do, unless you're lucky enough to have a healthy backup.

Anyways, good luck with your new try :)

Well I copied my backup, so the healthy backup that worked before is still there, so when the new patch comes it should work because it isn't corrupt, unless the patch doesn't actually come with a fix for this weird crashing. Before it crashes, I noticed that a notification comes up saying 'Windows is about to shut down' then it says something about a 'runtime error'. I have no idea what this means but perhaps this is a clue as to what the problem is? I get it absolutely every time the legacy crashes.

Thanks, Frey. :) If indeed I do need to restart, hopefully it'll work this time. :P
