Need help with moving my family to other town.
« on: January 19, 2012, 10:18:12 AM »
I have been playing sims for many years but have never moved to an other town yet. I had found a thread before on this subject but for some reason today, could not locate it. My sims are now elders but their son is still a young adult . He is in the police force level 10 Forensic DNA Profiler. I think I had read before that it would be best to save the lot to bin and move them to an other town but seem to remember reading that the family inventory wouldn't transport at all. I was just wondering if their skills and career would stay with them. The one that matters the most is the son as the elders are now retire and he became a famous writer and she is in making nectar and gardening.  Will the son's career stay with him and it would just be like getting a job transfer or would he have to start his career all over again?  This is my file in Appaloosa Plains. I have been challenging myself in doing all the LTW in order as I had not done some of them yet plus give me a chance to experience other traits never used before either. I'm having lots of fun with this but would like to relocate this family somewhere else and further his career.

If you go to "Edit town", evict your family, and place a copy in the library. They will keep their skills, career levels, and family personal inventories, also lifetime wishes and household funds. Save, quit, and go to the town of your choice. Your family should be in the library.

Thanks so much for the info. I will have to try it. I feel a little scared evicting my family though, what if they just disappear somewhere?   I think, I will need a shot of strong nectar before doing this.  :)

I promise you, they won't disappear unless you delete them. They'll be in the upper lefthand corner after you evict them ( actually, if you check the options, you might not have to evict them; I can't remember). I think you can even take their house with them.

You don't need to evict them, just click their house's icon in Edit Town view and you get the option to save the copy. Either household only or with the home lot. If you want to keep their household inventory, save them with the lot. You can then move them to another house if you want to in the new game, but have the items.

Also, if you feel nervous about "messing around" in Edit Town, just save the copy and then exit to main menu without saving. The copy will be in the library and your earlier game file the way it was when you last saved. :)

Thank you both for your help. I will give this a try after I get my two Papillons from the groomer. I have never done this sort of thing before so I'm felling a little anxious, just a bit scared I might mess up but this is only a game.

Save your game to a different file before doing it all, then if it doesn't work you can go back to a previous save, and if it does work then yay!

It should work though according to what MArianT and Noodles have said.

Remember the save though.

:D

Thank you so much for all your information. I printed it out and followed it all and everything worked out just fine. They are all in a new town with their house and everything . The only thing lost is their friends which is understandable. The son still has his career intact and it showed his new boss and partner with a little bit of a green bar.
I'm so happy. Thank you so much! :)

I'm glad something worked out for you. I saw your post about your Papillons on the Babble thread. They're such cute dogs, I can see why you'd be upset. (off-topic, but I figure this one is closing up.)

The Library is a good place to keep Sims, it's folder is in the The Sims 3 folder. I save my Sims there in case the save corrupts. If you save your Sims in it they be around until you delete them yourself. My main Sim is saved by herself and she has a household inventory, lots of stuff is in it. The Library is the family bin, it's just called something different in The Sims 3 folder. ;D

Thanks thesimslover828 . That's a great idea . I should do that too . You never know what can happen even after a save . I now have two files when starting up the game . One should be deleted .

Moving to Different Cities

I have this family in Sunset Valley that I worked on for a long  time. When I got Late Night, I wanted to move my family to Bridgeport. Can I do that?

Here is the link to the guide on how to move families from one city to another. I know it says Riverview, but that doesn't really matter as it is the same for any two towns.
If at first you don't succeed, call it version 1.0.
