Can't Fish With Bait

I've run into the problem where my Sim can't fish with bait.  He can only use the lure.  I know I've seen this issue somewhere on the Forum, but I haven't been able to find it.  Does anyone have the solution to this problem?

I've never had this happen to me personally, but I found a blog that had a few suggestions on how to fix it. I hope it works for you!

Problem

    My Sim can’t fish. There’s no option for it.
    My Sim can’t fish with bait anymore

Cause
Problem 1
This is caused by unknown seeds in your inventory.

Problem 2
Might be caused by bait that is not in your inventory anymore. If you fished with a certain bait and now you don’t have that bait anymore that can make the option disappear.

With Patch 1.26 they seem to have changed some stuff but forgot to take out some coding in a tuning file. This is causing this error.


Solution

    Remove all unknown seeds from your inventory
    Make sure to finish all adventures that involve fishing before returning home
    Make sure to always have the last bait you fished with still in your inventory.

Thanks, kattiq.  But that's not going to help me.  I've got the bait in my Sim's inventory, but when I tell him to fish with it, the action drops from his queue just as he's about to start.

Thanks for that, Sportsfan.  This is in my Townie DecaDynasty, so I really need to be able to fish everywhere in town.  Christopher's Lifetime Wish is the Perfect Private Aquarium.  He can probably get it just by using a lure, but I know being able to use bait would make it easier.

Hmm, sorry about that Pam! From what I had been able to search out so far besides what I showed you earlier, there really isn't anything you can do about it. They mention some mods helping, but I know that isn't an option whatsoever.
I'll keep an eye out for anything thing else though.

I thought sure there was a solution, but maybe I was thinking of something else.  I guess this is just a bug that came with Pets that will need a patch to fix.

I think this issue was caused by Patch 1.29, so Pam, did you start your DecaDynasty before you patched to 1.29? I think I remember hearing that that was the cause, but I too can't recall a solution.

It was 1.26. I have this bug in my Immortal Dynasty from it, it took me ages to get Deathfish. I literally had four days before my fisherman died and then I got it.  I'm hoping it only applies to Sims existing/born before the patch and not born later on...

Yes, I started it before Pets came out.  Lucky for me, I don't need Ambrosia in this challenge.  I just need Christopher to get his 13 perfect fish.

I had the same trouble, but was only in a specific fishing place (waterfall sunset valley), so I created a new sunset and saved the waterfall place. I returned to my world and replaced the waterfall. I hope you work.

I have a question about fishing.  This is probably because I'm newer to the Sims 3 but I don't know when your sim can fish with bait.  My sim has reached level 5 and it said he can fish with live bait, however when I click on the minnow in my bag there isn't an option for bait. 

Can anyone tell me, am I doing something wrong?  Or am I just crazy?

Hi and welcome to our Forum.

To fish with bait, you click the water.  You'll have the option to Fish with Bait and when you click it, a list will pop up of the available bait in your inventory. 

Keep in mind the subject of this thread, though.  There's currently a bug that doesn't let Sims fish with bait.  Not everyone has it, but many of us do.  In this case, it goes all the way through selecting the bait, but the Sim won't fish and the action drops from the queue.

I have another easy question for you.  When you go on vacation and catch fish do they not travel home with you.  I caught a perfect minnow and goldfish for my lifetime wish but I now that my sim is home they aren't in his inventory.
