Tranferring Sims 3 game without using USB?
« on: January 17, 2012, 03:48:40 PM »
Hey guys, I read somewhere about emailing the save files to yourself? I'm not sure how to do it. My USB port is broken on my old computer (The one with the Sims 3 on it) and I don't know how to transfer my games to the new computer. I no longer have the original game disks and I had every expansion pack up to Pets. Please help me.

If you've registered your games with Electronic Arts, I believe they will let you download the digital version.  Some other members have more details and will hopefully be along shortly.

Pam is right you can get a digital copy from EA as long as you have the serial number. Here's the link to EA to get started: Digital Copy

If you don't know how to find the serial number, I'll tell you how. All you have to have is the game already installed. In other words, don't uninstall them from your old computer! However, I can only really help if you run on Windows 7.

How about inserting a blank CD into your CD/DVD Drive and burning the Saves, SavedSims, and Downloads folders to it, since they are pretty much the most important parts of the game?

And a big warm welcome to the forum, KloroformKourtney.

I have everything on a blank (well not anymore) disk. But how do I install/play the game?

Have you installed it on your new computer?
If not, then insert the Vanilla disc (The Sims 3, on its own). Then you want to install it - a menu should come up, or a screen prompting installation. All you need to do is follow the instructions. Then when you're done, you want to install your Expansion Packs and Stuff Packs in the same way.

Make sure you have the game manuals! They have the installation codes on them.

You could zip the folders you want to transfer and put them on a file sharing site, such as Media Fire, and then download them on your new computer. :D

I think the problem is that the original poster doesn't have the disks anymore.  At least part of the problem.

I'm not at my computer now, so I'll tell you when I get home. Do you run on Windows 7?

If you manage to recover your serial numbers with Moonsareblue's help, you need to register them on the original website. To do that, you need to create an account first.

Then you go here: https://activate.ea.com/applyentitlement.do, type the serial number, the e-mail you registered and your EA password, and click on Sign In. Origin should open itself, and you should get the option to download the game. I did it three days ago with Ambitions, so I know it works. It takes forever for it to download (at least with as bad an internet connection as mine), but it works. All you need is lots of patience... I had to wait 24 hours for Ambitions to download, lol.

Anyways, good luck! I can help you to download the games if you need any help, just let me know  :)

==About transfering your files from old computer to new computer:

If you know how to remove your hard disk, it's very simple. Just remove it from one of your two computer, plug it in to another one, copy and paste like normal.

If you dont know how to remove your hard disk, then maybe you should try to find an ADSL cable (internet cable) then connect two of your computer, set some settings, then you'll have a LAN connection. At this point, you can now transfer your files very easy. (If you dont know how to settup a LAN connection, just let me know 2 of your computers Operating System, I'll help you out)

==About your lost disk:

I think you can borrow your friends TS3 disk and install it if your friends have it. Or you can contact EA for a digital copy. Or, you can still try to finds it on some webside. My suggest: [Link removed.  -Pam]

Good luck, and happy simming.
