You probably shouldn't be sharing strategy even in pm until the challenge is over
Have you read the Forum Rules?

Metro I heard there was a new patch, so I went looking for that thread. What I found was bad, so my question is since I started the clone challenge completely patched, would I have to add the patch to finish it legally? I don't want to put my Dynasty in jeopardy as I've just recently gotten my 4th generation and 2nd Immortal.

I would like you to make the effort to patch up. If bad things happen, I believe there is a way to remove patches which would be fine.

Esther, you could try moving your dynasty file to the desktop and then patch up. If all goes well, you move your dynasty file back into the saves folder. If not, you remove the patch with no harm done to your file.

Two things to watch out for:  pets apparently glitch the file badly, and any pending opportunities won't complete.

I am new to the game and tried this out before the challenge dates.  I was just interested in this challenge and figuring things out.  I got week 15, day 4.  It is unofficial but it was fun to see all the clones.

Awwww. Ok can you add me to the DNF list please? I have gotten my 2nd Immortal and my 4th generation in my Dynasty and I'm just not willing to take a chance with their lives for a challenge. At least I had fun while it lasted!

Are we allowed to post updates in here? :)

I'm only on Week 2 Day 1... not used to micromanaging so many Sims at once!! Lots of time paused to try to get everything queued up... anyone have any tips? (Obviously nothing too specific, but I'm a little bit overwhelmed right now! :P)

Etna Fan, Please read the general challenge rules. There's no discussion of strategy allowed, and if you persist, you run the risk of being banned.

@Etna Fan, I seriously had to hold myself back from doing just that. What are you not understanding about no discussion of strategy? Just stop posting until after the challenge is over. Clear?

For those of you who are afraid of the patch.  Don't be.  I know this is not the place for it but I hate to have good players quit because of it.

First go to Origin and make sure it is up to date.  If you don't the patch won't download correctly.

Second, clean up your computer.  Defrag, remove caches etc.

Lastly, go into your downloads folder.  At the top there should be two file folders with long numbers after them.  Delete them both but not your other download files.  These files will regenerate but that's ok.  I can't prove it, but when I did this I stopped getting the NoXroadsName thing and everything started running smoothly.  This after two days of bad language and upset because I couldn't figure out why there were problems.  The only glitches I have noticed is occasionally a clone will seem to have completed their LTW but they don't get the LTR points for it and keep track of your cash because that seems to fluctuate a bit as well.

If you don't want the notifications and all the posts from folks, once you are in your game go into Options and there is an icon on the far right at the top that will lead to where you can block these notices, chat, etc.

This was only posted in the interest of encouraging our contestants to keep on keeping on, even with the patch.

All finished.

Time to completion 6 weeks and 4 days. Now I am free to install everything on to my new computer including showtime when the postman brings me it.

I just wanted to post when I got to the end with my finish time but I had a problem last night, right nearing the end too :(

My save file got corrupt by a non-interactable inventory item (details intentionally omitted). Saving, quitting and restarted resulting from losing 2 sims from my active household, just... *poof*

I *have* been backing up regularly, so it's possible for me to *try* to find a safe point to go back to, I just don't know how far back I'd have to go, and that's the frustrating part -- not knowing how far to go back to avoid the glitch. And also not knowing how to avoid this from borking my entire game (if it did/will).

Without going into anything remotely spoiler-ish, there were a few key random events that happened to set me back and I think they are related to the glitching, but it makes it funny story-wise. Sad, but the disasters make me attached all the more to the game even if it added time to my run. I don't want to restore prior to these if I can avoid it.

I took a copy of the save prior to the blow up and ran it separately (outside of the challenge, I know it's not in the rules) with a mod, to try to see what the error was that corrupted the inventory and/or subsequently vanished 2 household members -- to try to gain insight into what caused the corruption, this went nowhere. So I'm pretty sure something went completely corrupt. I scrapped that and did a complete manual uninstall and reinstall last night and am at a point where I can proceed. But... this is where the question comes up. How to proceed.

Another spoilerish thing is that I suspect there may be an issue related all the way back at the very beginning of the game (which makes me cringe). I didn't discover this would be an issue until well into the game.

For my first attempt at a challenge I'm a bit at a loss for where to go, I do want to finish. I don't want to start over, but after a full reinstall already I don't want to have to do that again and I'm wary to pop open saves. (I also think I'm so far into the challenge that I've "learned too much" and it'd be boring (edit: and possibly cheaty) to force myself to replay the same way to make it fair.)

Advice? What to do? I know I'm being vague and waving hands but I am doing so on purpose.

That is frustrating. :( But, needless to say, you can go back to an earlier save since this is all a glitch and out of your hands. Please try and go back as close to when the glitch happened. If all else fails then you are free to try again fresh. Good luck.

Oooops! After all the time I spent looking forward to this challenge I still haven't started yet due to some nasty person distracting me with a Diablo 3 beta.

I'd better get my thinking head on because currently I'm totally at a loss as to how people are finishing so quickly!  Well done so far on the scores everyone :)

I just installed Showtime, and it looks like it adds three businesses/parks in places that were previously empty lots.  Is Showtime allowed for this challenge, or does it change things too much?
