Can't Get Rid of Dirty Surroundings
« on: January 15, 2012, 03:30:47 AM »
Hi! First time posting on the forum.  :)  I'm hoping someone can help.

Whenever my Sim goes into the kitchen I get the negative moodlet for dirty surroundings.  I finally figured out that I expanded the kitchen over where some old newspapers had been.  They aren't there any more but the game is still registering them.  Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Thanks!

Welcome to our Forum, cascia76.

Have you tried deleting the new construction to see if you can get to the old newspapers?  I'm a little surprised that the game let you build over them.

Also, I'm moving this to the Miscellaneous Help thread because it's not really about the game's mechanics.

Yes.  I deleted everything in the area.  The newspaper isn't there.  It flashed briefly where it had been but then disappeared.

So then, when you rebuilt, you still had the dirty surroundings moodlet?  Have you tried hiring a maid for a day to see if she can find something that you don't see?

And also, you could temporarily give one of your sims the neat trait, click the ground, and select the option clean house.
If at first you don't succeed, call it version 1.0.

Problem with hiring a maid is they don't (or I've never seen them) clean potty seats.  I find this the biggest culprit in dirty houses.

Why didn't I think of that!!!  Thank you.

The maid didn't do it.  He came in, cleaned the loo, helped himself to food, watched TV and left with his 125.  My burnt floor was still burnt and upsetting the family.  I do hope that changing one sims trait to neat for just that job isn't cheating, but, I had tried everything else I could think of.

You could also get a witch to do a restoration spell - cleans, freshens and deodorizes!
A 1920s era house needing heat, AC, new floors, new drywall on the walls and ceilings, new bathroom fixtures, new kitchen cabinets, new water heaters.... The roof is sound, but why didn't I just buy an empty lot?

Genies can instantly clean an entire house. In my experience, it eliminated old newspapers, piles of clothes, dirty plates, everything.

Sometimes that doesn't work, I had that glitch, I tried everything, even a genie. The genie cleaned the house instantly, but my Sim still noticed something was dirty.

By chance would the refrigerator be in the area where you are getting the Dirty Surroundings moodlet?

I've had it happen twice where the fridge glitches and gives that moodlet. A way you can tell is going into Build/Buy mode and try to move the fridge. It may say something like "Object is in use by so-and-so and cannot be picked up". If that's the case, you've found your culprit.

The only way to fix this that I've come across is to delete the object. You will have to have testingcheatsenabled turned on, then shift-click the object, click on Object, then Delete.

So far this has only happened to me with refrigerators, so I don't know if it's possible with other appliances as well. One time I had that Dirty Surroundings moodlet and somehow an old juice box had gotten stuck under one of the counters.

Hope that helps!

I once had a microwave somehow glitch and instantly spoil a microwave meal, give the moodlet, and become impossible to empty/sell, and since it's in my dynasty, I couldn't use Testingcheats to delete it. In the end, I used MOO to put it in the in the foundation of my house  ;D

I once had it happen outdoors.  After a meteorite shower, my Sims kept getting that moodlet in the garden and I couldn't understand why.  I finally figured out it was the gate.  Replacing the gate took care of the moodlet.  So it might be worthwhile to try replacing everything in the vicinity of where your Sims are getting the moodlet.

You should be able to delete it with moveobjects on, shouldn't you?

I do hope that changing one sims trait to neat for just that job isn't cheating, but, I had tried everything else I could think of.

What are you worrying about cheating on? If it's a Dynasty, then no, you can't change someone's trait for that, unless they are legally able to have their trait changed (a spare/spouse, depending on the Dynasty) and you use legitimate means (the Mid-Life Crisis LTR).
