ah. So we have a "hidden" rule, right?
Actually, this is covered explicitly under rule #2, in the part that forbids frivolous posting. Since you can't make a poll without attaching a thread to it, a frivolous poll would be attached to a frivolous post, putting it in direct violation of rule #2. Even when this was actually spelled out, that rule never said that polls were intended for moderator use only.
Polls were implemented to gather "useful" demographics for the forum. Some popular polls were "What town do you prefer to play in" and "Cheats or No Cheats." These types of polls are useful to the
readers, as it gives them actual information: a town that is more popular could have "better" townies or a more convenient layout, or using cheats might help them to avoid aspects of the game they don't like or tell them that they're not the only cheater in the community (i.e. our beloved Esther
).
"Rate my Sim/build/world" polls or others in this vein are only useful to the person posting it, and aren't of any real value to the community and are considered frivolous.
This thread falls into the former category. This is a question that is often asked: "I'm going to get an expansion pack, but which one is better?" This poll would provide some solid information on people's opinions of the various expansions.
-----
Deciding on a single expansion is a difficult choice between World Adventures and Ambitions, but Ambitions edges out WA because it brings so much more to the game. Between the interactive careers, the skill based professions and the new skills created, this has been my favorite expansion to play. All WA has going for it really is the Photography skill (my favorite skill in the game) and the incredible items available in the buydebug menu. It's a tough call, but Ambitions wins.
My least favorite expansion is Pets. Don't get me wrong: I love this expansion, but I love them all to some extent or another. My only issue with it is that it's already been done to some extent. Twice. I'm not big on movie remakes and I'm not a big fan of re-hashed video game content. I would much prefer something completely new, but there's at least enough fresh content in Pets to make it so that I don't completely hate it.
