What, in your opinion, were the best things to happen to the sims?

Mine-
Being able to make community lots (Hot Date, Sims 1)
WooHoo! ;) (Sims 2)
Traits (Sims 3)

Please don't turn this in to a "Bashing EA" tread! :P

Sims 3 is the only Sims game I have played and that I own at this time, but for me, I would have to say that I love building, creating and decorating the best at this time. I have made many changes throughout the town and to many of the homes. I have even built my very first home on an empty lot just today as a matter of fact. The only thing I haven't been able to figure out so far is how to make/build a basement. I have failed miserably at trying to learn to do that so far.

The one greatest lesson I have learned so far, and believe me I learned it the hard way, is that you should save your game often while playing. Save, save, save people, or it will eventually cost you a lot of time lost, much frustration, and lost progress in your game.

I read so much about WA on here. It must be a pretty good expansion pack. I would probably opt to play that one next, or maybe the new one that is coming out soon.

Ok, thanks for the help! I will check it out. The thing that I could not understand or to figure out is how to know how deep to go or how far down to sink the ground for one floor level or two or more. I could never level the ground out even when I clicked to level the ground. It was all just too frustrating for me. But, I will check out the link you shared. Thanks again!

Catlvr,

With the current updates to the game, you don't have to sink the ground or anything like that anymore.  There's a handy basement tool on the Build menu, over to the right with the terrain paint.  It works the same as when you build a foundation or a wall.  Use the level up/down button to move from the ground level to the basement and back again.  They made it so much easier to make a basement with these updates.

Ok, thanks, I will check that out. I am taking a break from playing my Sims and enjoying experimenting with the building and the decorating features in the game. Thanks again Pam.

Oh well, I have lots of favourites. But my favourite would be the wide variety of lovely paintings that our Sims can paint in Sims 3. I also like the seamless neighbourhood, and collecting! I love collectable items!!! The gnomes are also pretty cool, except they stop moving after a week or so. Oh! And I like the new decorating options we have in the sims 3.

Sims 1: Making yourself feel like God.
Sims 2: Its graphics(at that time) and career rewards plus that thingy that charges a Sim's needs to max and the system revolving aroudn it.
Sims 3: Its graphics(again, yea, but now) and the free roam and reduced loading time.

I really don't remember about any favorites in the original sims...just that it was a totally different kind of game that was out there.

When the sims 2 came along it was the feature of generations and how you could plan legacies with the mom getting pregnant...that was a pretty big deal...in the original, birth and kids were a joke.  After all the eps and sps the game was really awesome.  I loved the decoration aspect and would go around town redecorating the townie's homes. ;D

Probably the biggest things about sims 3 is the customization of everything, seamless neighborhoods and trait system.  I customize everything...fantastic. ;D  As I figured, with the game breaking ground in sims-style playing there had to be glitches.  But I can live with them as they are relatively minor in comparison with the absolutely terrific gameplay.  Also the eps seem to be bigger than in the sims 2, almost like individual, stand-alone games. :)

Ok, there is plenty of things I do like in The Sims, but my favorite thing that they have implemented is the lack of loading time in The Sims 3, especially compared to The Sims 2. The lack of loading time makes it so much easier to explore the neighbourhood.

I'm with you, Swede1992 - bring back Magic Town!  Loved it.  Aside from that, I think what I most like about Sims is the freedom we have as players to decide what kind of game we want to play.  We can do families and generations, we can focus on adventures, whatever we feel like doing.  No pre-determined goals or objectives to the game.

I agree with Schipperke.  The versatility of the game is amazing.  There are people who don't even play Sims, they just build gorgeous houses!  You can turn it into a fierce competition like we do the the tournament.  You can just piddle around leisurely.  The possibilities are endless and it make the game the best investment of $50 for entertainment that I've ever seen.  I can only go to the movies with my husband twice for $50.  And we'd have to skimp on the popcorn for that!

Decorating houses, definitely. I'm really proud of the beautiful mansions I plan for my Sims, and the customization in Sims 3 was a wonderful novelty for me - it takes my mind off the fact that there are so few objects, and no piano. I spend lots of time on making the place comfortable, efficient and beautiful, sometimes I won't even play my Sims, just redecorate.

The social drama - killing, marrying (hate the WA bug), having babies, careers. I love the fact that you can actually have an office romance now, since you need to interact with your boss and colleagues.

Traits. Finally some Evil-Sims to take down those goody-goodies.
