Moving Sims 3 and Custom content?
« on: January 09, 2012, 02:42:05 AM »
Ok. Hi there, I just found your site looking for some help moving my game.

I would like to move my Sims 3 and all my custom content that has been installed to it, to another Hard Drive on my computer.

I installed my older Sims 2 and all the expansions and stuff packs, along with Sims 3 within about a week of each other, I was feeling nostalgic and wanted to play. :D However, with in a couple of days doing this, my World of Warcraft game started experiencing tremendous lag.  I have tried numerous things to try and fix it in that game to no avail.  Now I would like to just try to move both games along with the custom content to the other hard drive and see if HOPEFULLY it helps the problem.  I spent a lot of time installing all my CC and playing my sims, I really really hate to lose any of it by doing something stupid.  However I am a regular raider in WoW and I just can not function to the best of my ability with this lag.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for your time! :)

If you mean custom content, as in that which is made not by EA (see this thread for what custom content is: http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=4056.0), then we can't help you, because of the rules of this forum against custom content. If however, you are talking about what you have bought from the EA online store, I'm sure someone here can give you a hand.

Alright then, thank you.  I do know what custom content is, and yes, I am referring to content created by third parties that I am wanting to move with my game to another Hard Drive on my computer.

I didn't see anything related to this being against the Terms of Use on the forums and I don't want to break any rules.  I wasn't going to link anything of that nature, but I will try to find some technical advice somewhere else.

Thank you so much for reading this and your time!

Happy Monday! (ugh lol)

I have my Sims 3 Installed on my D: Drive but it still puts most of the other files (screenshots, downloads etc.) in my C: Drive. Although the D: Drive has taken the bulk of the game files with the stuff that makes the game run. At a max my C: Drive Sims 3 Files are about 3GB large with lots of pics and store content. I manually created an Electronic Arts folder in my D: Drive and when installing my game I chose that as the installation location/destination whatever it's called. As for your CC I don't know but if it's like Store Content you may just be able to copy/paste it to back it up and then once the new location and sims is reinstalled you can move it back to where ever you put it.

Hope that is what you meant?
