Upgrade Doorbell

How do I upgrade doorbell? I'm level 10 and walls are up but when I click on door it says no actions available. Is there a specific door I need to use?

I think this is a little bit glitchy. I usually use the same cheap door and during a few practice runs, I've found that sometimes the option is there as soon as they learn the handiness skill and other times it is not there even with a higher skill level. I haven't worked out why it does it, I'm pretty sure I haven't done anything different.

Hmm I've tried different doors. I'm gonna skip that one for now.

Keep in mind it has to be the designated "front door" of your house.

What if there's only one door? And does it need to have a complete room (fully enclosed) or can it just be one wall?

Edit: I can answer my own question. From one of my other games I remember needing the room to be completely enclosed to be able to designate a front door.

I think it has to be a complete room, possibly of a minimum size - I know at one point I'd built a 1x1 room and stuck a door on it, and I couldn't call that my "front door", but 2x3 is definitely big enough.

If the door your trying to upgrade is set to the front door and it's still not letting you do the upgrade you might try clicking a different outside door and setting it as the front door and see if you can do the upgrade on that door.

It doesn't always work even on a complete room though. One of my trials, I had a room large enough for kitchen and bathroom essentials with a bedroom off that room and the only option I had for the door was to lock it. I couldn't even set any door as the front door.

You need at least one fully enclosed room. As soon as you put a toilet in there though, it no longer can be designated the front door.

Wow that's weird that EA would program the game like that. Id think it would be easier just to always let you do it but oh well

Thanks to everyone.

I do that too :) I've been thinking of starting a thrifty builders' thread. I'll do that now...

I had to build a house on a foundation to get it to work for me.
