The Doe Dynasty. Episode 18: Martial Artists Use VISA

Episode Eighteen: Martial Artists Use VISA

Once the second generation becomes a young adult, a dynasty family is allowed to travel. David and the crew held off on this for there was no need to go anywhere. Now that the fourth generation is a teenager, the time has come to finally leave Simcity. One Doe and one non-immortal sparring partner must visit China.

When we last left our family, Germaine died. Oh no! But on the bright side, three sims had birthdays. One of them even had two birthdays since there was nothing better for her to do.

We begin our episode in China. Erica and Dolores had finally arrived after a very long plane ride.

Dolores: Be careful, the weather forecast for tonight calls for sims getting stuck in places and causing China to lag.
Erica: What are you talking about?
Dolores: Nothing.

[I hate China in a Dynasty challenge. Banned from using ResetSim * to fix China's lag problems because it also affects the immortals.]

After spending the day sparring with her mother, Erica decided to check for adventures so that she wouldn't just do Martial Arts for the entire vacation. She does have 6 days to spend anyway.

"I need a relic, please speak to Shing Hong if you're interested in finding one for me."

Dolores: Nothing a few fists won't solve.

Dolores: I'm here for the relic hunt.
Shing Hong: You go find relic and give it to me. I call VISA and tell them you pay your bills when you do.
Dolores: ...what kind of a reward is that?
Shing Hong: You go. Now.

No matter how much you alter the future, some things never change...

Although Erica wasn't able to get VISA level 3 in one vacation, she can still have a bit of China at home. They even converted the Woohoo Room into a dojo.

Not hitting VISA level 3 can easily be fixed with a second vacation though.

Erica: Wow, check out this axe.
Pangu: Who are you? You are not the one who is meant to claim me?
Erica: I was sent to find something that could smash boulders. I told the guy my fists could do it but no, he wanted an axe.
Pangu: Unhand me at once! I am to be claimed by a teenager named Isaac Frohman.
Erica: Frohman? Never heard of him. Now let's go.
Pangu: Help! I'm being axenapped!
Erica: If you don't be quiet, I'm throwing you into that pit behind me.

Erica: Hey, I found your axe.
Pangu: This is ridiculous! A young teenager in pink is supposed to have ownership of me! The prophecy said so!
Ai Pei: I'm sorry, I was looking for something named Pengu's Axe, that's Pangu's Axe. You're better off using your fists over that.
Erica: I just wasted my time zeneporting past the entire dungeon for that?
Ai Pei: Cheer up, I'll call VISA and tell them you're not poor. You can keep the axe too.

Now that Erica is VISA level 3, she'll be able to buy the Does a home in China once she becomes a young adult. Teenagers can't purchase real estate in China unfortunately. International laws and all. The rest of the vacation was spent sparring and meditating to make progress towards supermaxing martial arts for Erica.

Pangu: I will not say this again. Unhand me or you will feel the wrath of Pangu!
Dolores and Erica: ...
Pangu: RELEASE ME! NOW!

Pangu is back lol! Very funny update. Is the lag in China still bad? I didn't visit China in a while.

The Doe Dynasty. Episode 19: The Cosmic Tournament
« Reply #78 on: February 14, 2012, 07:55:02 AM »
[The lag in China is still pretty bad. It's caused by sims getting stuck in certain places in China and is easily fixed with the ResetSim command but it's a pain to track down who is stuck where so it's easier to ResetSim *, this affects your immortals too though so that's more than likely not allowed. All that can be done is suck it up. From my experiences, this only affects the first visit.]

Episode Nineteen: The Cosmic Tournament

Martial Arts is a way of life. The path to enlightment can only be achieved through intense training in the art of Sim Fu and meditation. Only those who can overcome countless trials can rise up and become a Martial Arts Master.

When we last left our family, Erica and Dolores took two vacations to China to get VISA level 3 and train in Martial Arts.

We begin this episode with Sunset Valley getting a slight makeover to add the Late Night buildings. There's a funny story behind that, rather than build a carbon copy of each building, the mayor of Sunset Valley had helicopters lift up each building from Bridgeport and drop them directly into Sunset Valley. The mayor would not disclose details about how the plumbing and electrical were mysteriously working when they landed. On the bright side, this opens up mixology as a potential supermax.

Meanwhile, in China, Erica decided to book a 15-day vacation in China by herself to complete in the Martial Arts tournament. Considering that this is part of her lifetime wish, it's very fitting that this be the last Martial Arts challenge needed to supermax the skill.

Erica: Fight me!
Challenger: Okay.

Meteor or no meteor, the tournament must go on!

Even if it means the combatants can't take a shower...

Erica: Gotcha! This is boring...
Adaeze Min: Space ash in eyes! Can't see!

Using Erica Doe's signature "Surprise Overhand Chest Chop", Erica was able to win the entire tournament with a record of 20 wins to 5 losses.

Erica: YES! I WON! I'M A MARTIAL ARTS MASTER! YEAH!
Xi Yuan: Be quiet, husband and kids sleeping in other room.
Erica: I AM THE BEST MARTIAL ARTIST IN THE WORLD! WOOOOOO!
Xi Yuan: You leave house now. No wake up family.

Erica: Hey mom! Guess what? I WON THE TOURNAMENT! I'M THE BEST MARTIAL ARTIST ALIVE!
Xi Yuan: Get out get out get out
Erica: Hold on mom, I have to make another phone call... Hello? Shang Simla Internation Airport? Put me on the next flight to Sunset Valley! I won the tournament! I am out of here!
??: Honey, what's all that noise?
Xi Yuan: YOU! LEAVE HOUSE! GO BYE BYE!

There was nothing left for the family to do so let's fast forward a week. Hey look, it's Erica's young adult birthday party and it's about time too. Of course there's a party but Erica found a use for a very special...axe.

Erica: Do it.
Pangu: I refuse.
Erica: It's my birthday.
Pangu: Absolutely not. In my time, we would celebrate birthdays by having honorable combat between the... birthday boy... and the father. The child must prove he has become an adult through victory.
Erica: On second thought, hey da--
Gordon: NO!
Erica: Do it, Pangu, or else I'm going to put you on public display in my school so every child and teen can play with you.
Pangu: ....happy birthday to youuu

Erica has displayed great determination and discipline through her rigorous martial arts training. With her power, she must make sure no sim must ever misuse it's power for it could lead to a catastrophic fate for all of simkind. Erica has become--

Erica: Protector of Justice? Guardian of Sim Fu? No chance I'm doing that. My way is more fun.

...evil

Looks can be quite deceiving.

Thought I'd spice things up a bit since in this dynasty, waiting for birthdays is pretty... boring. It's definitely an endurance challenge, that's for sure. Hopefully having Erica be evil and the dead giveaway in the beginning of the chapter that one of the immortals is supermaxing mixology should make things a bit more interesting.

Happy Birthday Erica!   Also - Just so you know.  Metro has almost always allowed people to use resetSim * on China because of it's routing issues.  It only resets a Sims location and their current needs but it's not necessarily a plus or a minus.   I get to the point where I just use ResetSim every day as my Sims are waking up. I tend to keep them on a schedule where they wake up near 6 am. This way their needs don't change all that much when I use ResetSim and they don't lose any moodlets really other than well rested.

The Doe Dynasty. Episode 20: The Third Immortal
« Reply #83 on: February 18, 2012, 06:43:38 AM »
Episode Twenty: The Third Immortal

Sometimes, no matter how much training and discipline a sim goes through, you cannot train away someone's personality. Erica had achieved her goals doing things her way and thus saw it necessary to continue that path, even if it meant that some things would be considered evil.

When we last left our family, Erica supermaxed martial arts, aged up, and became evil. That's not good.

We begin this episode with Erica joining the criminal career.

??: Whoever you are, go away.
Erica: I'm here to join your organization.
??: Not taking any new recruits right now. Beat it.
Erica: HIYA!
??: Whoa whoa, easy there! There's no need to punch holes through solid steel. You might be useful after all.

In fact, Erica is so evil, that she delivers some heartbreaking news to one of her best friends because she can.

Erica: I'm not a lesbian.
Quiana Palacios: WHAT!?
Erica: I know you're in love with me, but I'm not a lesbian.
Quiana: How dare you!

A few days after Erica became a young adult though, it was finally time for Gordon's elder birthday. It's amazing that the third generation may actually make it to immortality this time. Previously, the third generation had been responsible for failing a dynasty twice. Although expansion packs make dynasties easier, they can also come back to haunt you. Curse you imaginary friends! Curse you vampires!

Gordon: Goodness, my hair, the birthday gods have finally developed common sense.

Casual to the end. Black shirt, ordinary pair of pants, didn't even have to change his hairstyle this time.

A quick painting, sculpting, and photograph later, Gordon Doe has finally completed his ambrosia requirements. Ladies and gentlemen, the third generation has pulled through! From this moment on in this dynasty, no one will know if the Does will go all the way or if someone will fail.

Gordon: Are you sure we should be using the food replicator for ambrosia? The dishwashers at my diner could make make better food than this.
David: Do you want to live forever or not?

Thank you all. Man am I glad to finally have a third immortal this time around. There's no telling what will happen in this dynasty now but as long as the four supermaxes remaining go smoothly, as long as I don't get travel bugs towards the end, and as long as my immortals stop trying to watch the cooking channel, I have a lot of faith in this attempt.

Let's get this done.

I never let my immortals watch television for fear of one of them gaining a skill in cooking or fishing. They played shuffleboard and darts a lot.
I also only had the really cheap computer so nobody could accidentally skill up in logic. I seemed to spend a lot of time ensuring that nobody gained any extra skill points.
