Guitar Star - Parties?
« on: March 23, 2010, 02:54:22 AM »
I hope I'm not bothering with posting new topics...

Anyhow, I have this Sim, young adult, she's Marlene Verne's and Alvi Miraj's daughter, at the beginning of music career track bound to become a rock star. I had her learn the guitar skill fast, she started as a toddler, and I made her age prematurely, since she's still skipping school and kid's can't play guitars (I miss the piano, kids could use the piano!). I really want her to complete all the skill challenges..

I specifically remember there being a tournament here where you had to complete all the careers, and all the challenges etc., and there was an exception: Guitar Star, because it's buggy. It says the requirement is to play at 10 parties and at 10 venues around town. Someone also said (Was it you, Pam?) that the parties that count seem to be only the ones coming from opportunities. I'm looking at the wiki list of opportunities and there aren't enough, at least the way I count them O.o!
You can get an opportunity twice, but you can't complete it more than once, right? (I wouldn't believe it was possible to get opportunities more than once, but my first gardener in the game got the "Bad Apples" opportunity three times!)

I want to know if it really is the opportunities parties that count, *and* how does it mark that you played at the specific party.
Also... Is the venues thing simply : play in front of the theatre, stadium, in the park, etc.?

Anyone who achieved this challenge help me!

The only way I know of completing this is to start with the Guitar Skill because they Oppertunitys only appear to show up when you have NO other skills.

I found an older thread on Guitar Star

So... "all" I need to do to complete this challenge is to wait for the opportunities?

ps. that's the original thread I found. My girl, the daughter, has other skills, but she did get one guitar opportunity so far. Although I am not doing anything with her apart from playing the guitar, since it seems to help raise opportunities.

I think it is Opportunity related, I think you can throw parties to do it to. Otherwise it would be easy to just go around playing the Guitar at ten different venues.

"Guitar Stars must play at 10 parties and venues in the town to earn their title. Afterward, they earn more money for tips and performances"

There are exactly 10 venues around town where I can throw parties with my Sim's phone (Two of them are ponds O.o!).

The parties you receive from opportunities are at locations, right? Not house-parties, right?

It could mean that it takes a party at each location where my Sim plays his guitar, not necessarily thrown by him.

ps. I always wondered why there were that many venues to rent for parties.

Justine, I've completed Guitar Star, and believe me, it's not easy. Here's the bottom line:

• Your guitarist should not have any other skills at all but Guitar
• Have them take every single Guitar Opportunity that comes up — they all seem to count towards Guitar Star. You can even do the same one multiple times...the Organizing the music section at the Bookstore one seems to come up a lot.

That's it.

but it seems weird, there are no other challenges that require completing opportunities...

Metro,

What about throwing parties at the different venues and playing guitar during the party.  Does that count toward the challenge?

No, Pam, that doesn't count. It has to be Skill Opportunities. That's why that challenge is so whacked out because a player would never come to that conclusion on their own based on the Challenge description.

Are you sure not? Did you do any testing? Because this would be the only challenge combining the two. Normally it's just: play something x-times, produce x-something.

I'm not doubting, it just seems such an elusive challenge. I can't believe they'd expect us to complete 10 opportunities.

I'll say I'm 99% sure that simply playing around town at parties you set up has no bearing on this at all. I'd say I was 100% sure, but I have not made a guitar player since the last patch and there is the remote chance that EA did fix it.  :D

All right, then I'll test it :] I have my Sim, I'm playing her as we speak.

Wish me luck :] It'll make all our lives better!

I don't think they will ever fix it. That's the only challenge I've never been able to complete.

That and collecting, but I hate collecting so that's why I haven't done them.

I think I've only gotten one or two opportunities to throw a party and as far as I could tell, it doesn't even show you how many you've done.

Okay, I'm officially angry about the bug.

Cause it is a bug, it must be! There's definitely a problem with some counter. Where there is a challenge, there is a counter in the skill journal, and there doesn't even exist one for those parties and venues where you perform.
*Also* I don't think I've even had 10 skill opportunities in my Verne Family per person. And they're all opportunistic on long lifespan, it's 15th week. Which means it's unlikely someone would expect you to actually count on finishing ten opportunities in normal life span - which you should be able to do, right?

There are exactly ten venues for parties, and the ones beside the lake seem like the obvious challenger trophies.

They should fix this, 'cause a lot of people like being a rock star and the guitar skill seems to be the most glitchy part - both opportunities and challenges wise.
I hope when we get the piano they'll figure some really good opportunities and social interactions to go with it :)

Justine, does your guitarist have any skills besides guitar?
