I just reached level 10 and stood outside the theatre on a Saturday, I preformed every single composition I could twice and still only got in the 110-120 range.

Wait a minute. It sounds like you're performing songs in front of the Theatre and not playing for tips. Am I misunderstanding?

Preforming, cancelling x2 then playing  for tips.

Don't perform compositions at all on the weekend. That's gold mine time and all you should be doing is playing for tips non-stop. You train your guitarist Monday through Friday. It just sounds like you're making some kind of mistake. Not sure. I'll find out soon enough if the exploit still works. Between this thread and the problems Justine is having with the Guitar Star Challenge I'm going to get started on my article pronto tomorrow and hopefully shed light on this for everyone. I'll leave no stone unturned! :)

-------

EDIT: Okay, I'm a couple days into my guitarist, Mr. 3000. Some of you may have a clue as to why I named him that, but anyway...the exploit does still work. Cueing up 8 performances and quickly canceling after the first notes does add 8 performances to the skill journal. However, I have not played for tips yet with this guy. But, I'll quickly know if tip amounts seem on par with what I've done before. I have not been offered a single guitar opportunity yet, so completing the Guitar Star Challenge could take weeks (or months) as usual.

This may sound weird, but is there an amount you reach then people stop coming by? I have this one guy who is level 10 and he has reached over $25,000 and now it seems no one comes by the theater on weekends or through the week! Maybe he reached the limit? I'm about to play him again and I'll put his stats down in a minute.

Here is his stats.

Maybe there are not many Sims left in your Town? Maybe your story prog has messed up!

I hope not! When I click on map view, almost every house is filled with people!

I'm now deep into my walkthrough character, Mr. 3000. He has 125 performances in the Skill Journal. He's only played one tip playing session — it was a Sunday in front of the Theatre from about noon until 12am the next day. He raked in $21k with his highest tip at $889. So, the exploit unquestionably is working properly. I honestly don't know what you might be doing wrong, type. Push your performance # to equal mine (125) and see if you have comparable results.

And now the insanity begins.

There's light at the end of the tunnel for my guitarist. I just achieved the ever elusive Guitar Star Challenge for him. His largest single tip before that point was 12,775 with 2194 compositions. He went to the Bistro to fulfill the Raise the Fun(d) opportunity and apparently that was #10 because he got the challenge notification. It was late, but I still had him play for tips in front of the Theatre for a few more hours and with that Challenge completed I definitely noticed that average tips went up significantly. Someone even threw him a $19,804 tip! Wowza.

I should be done with him by the end of the day and I'll ship my article off to the big guy.

If they drop those 20k tips, shouldn't then the sim who gave it logically lose 20k instead of a whole 20k just appearing out of nowhere?

It doesn't work that way. Tip amounts are not related in any way to household income.

I thought that must be so from the context that so many people couldn't just give away all their money in a single tip. Thanks for verifying! :)

That makes sense, otherwise, where would all those kids get hundreds of dollars for tips, which I thought was always kind of strange.

On the topic of guitars, thanks for all of the info.  Finally have my sim making good money on weekends and doing compositions during the week, she got the last challange for the new track, that is a really good song.  I could sit and listen to those tracks they play forever, in fact, sometimes I forget to x it out because I am too busy listening to the song.

I finally finished my guitar article and sent it to Carl, so hopefully he'll have it up soon. I pushed this guitarist farther than I've ever taken one before. Twice as far. Absolutely crazy stuff. Now, I can get into Baby Boomer II.
