Making money with the guitar - may be useful
« on: March 22, 2010, 09:18:05 AM »
I know Metropolis Man has probably said everything, but I don't remember there being a tip about playing for tips after autograph sessions.
There is a lot of people left behind after them, and if anyone from your family wants to earn the reaming points to completing the 25,000 challenge it's a nice benefit of having an athlete as a Sim-sister for example.

Yeah, that's definitely one trick I use, Justine and it's a great tip. I've come to believe that the weekend in front of the Theatre always results in the most money from Playing for Tips. Logic dictates that Autograph sessions are more successful on the weekend as well because fewer Sims are working and the game can readily choose them to go to the Autograph session. Combine the two things together and it's a win-win.

I still don't get how you got so much money metro, a couple of those from a Legacy Spare and get rid of them into the big sim world, so then they could pay their rent!  :D

I still don't get how you got so much money metro...

It's a combination of a lot of things:

• I've played many guitarists and Playing for Tips is an art in itself: knowing when, and where is a biggie. Canceling the action repeatedly to draw the crowd back in takes a keen eye.
• Knowing the compositions exploit.
• Knowing how to finish Guitar Star.

Sounds like I need to actually write a Guide article on guitar playing. I've wanted to do that for awhile.

Please do. I've been trying to use the exploit, but it just doesn't work for me :(

What happens when you try to use the exploit?  What trouble do you have?

Well the money from tips will rise for about five tips then it goes back down.

Just to make sure I'm doing this right... I start performing then hit cancel straight away, correct?

You have to be sure you're performing a composition.  This is done by clicking your guitar in inventory and selecting which composition to perform.  If you use pause and queue up eight all at once, then you cancel each performance as soon as it starts.  Then just repeat the queueing and cancelling as many times as you want.

Well, that's very strange indeed.  Metro might have some ideas about it.

type, answer 3 things for me:

1) guitarist skill level
2) total number of times performed compositions
3) approximately largest tip you've seen so far

That seems way too low. I'll do some testing tomorrow. I'll be writing a guitarist article for the Guide soon anyway, so I'll quickly find out if the exploit works as advertised.

I just reached level 10 and stood outside the theatre on a Saturday, I preformed every single composition I could twice and still only got in the 110-120 range.
