How to delete parts of furniture?
« on: December 28, 2011, 05:16:09 AM »
How is this done? If I grab it, it turns back to  a normal kitchen counter. I read about a cheat which allows you to remove just parts of furniture but now I can't find it, and it's not mentioned in the Build cheats on Carl's page or the other I read...

Where did you get this image from? I've not heard about this before and so the possibility of this being a Custom Content thing comes to mind. I have seen stuff like this that they edit to remove part of it.

I'm guessing custom content. I have a piece (from when I used to use CC) that is a shelf for a greenhouse, but when I pick it up it reverts to looking like the counter that it was made from.

Hmmm, actually I just had an idea of how to do that. Not sure if it works though. I'll load up my game and have a look.

Does it involve dishwashers or trash compactors?
I just tried something and I can get the gap as long as the dishwasher is not completely removed. As soon as it is clear of the spot, the counter reverts to normal.

That was my idea as well. Do you still have that game open? Go into live mode and try using testingcheats to remove it. Just an idea but if you shift+click it and delete object I wonder if it will work. I don't have my game open. Busy deleting stuff I don't need on my PC. I just cleared a folder of reall yold sims pictures and saves that I don't use and it was 10GB + !!  :o

Could it be a glitch? I know the overachieving counter (store item) does this after removing dishwashers sometimes. It also makes it problematic to recolour them. Or perhaps it's a specific dishwasher that causes it. I only mention the dishwasher, because more often than not I forget about the trash compactor (like, 99% of the time), and I enountered this issue recently.

BINGO  that's the trick - testingcheats on and shift click to delete.

Cool a new trick. I suppose you can then use MOO to put things under there.  :)

Thanks so much!

The pic is from my current game, and the house is downloaded from a swapshop here. So I'm sure it's free of CC! :)
It's Knollwood by Lynley (Here)

I'm SO going to use this trick the next time I decorate; I think it looks nicer that way. Thanks for solving this for me.

Very nice!  The counter top without the cabinet is something I miss from TS2.  This is a handy enough work-around.   ;)

Even if it looks I would not recommend it, Deleting objects using shift-clicking can be bad for your save files, they disappear from your game but they will still be included in the games processes.

I wonder if you could then put a sink in it without the underneat reappearing... That would be cool for public bathrooms.
