Need Help for Badly Lagging Game
« on: December 25, 2011, 10:16:49 AM »
Cool topic Kiko. My Dynasty could use your expertise! I'm on the third generation, never travel with them, have used resetSim * once. Sold all sprinklers, gnomes are in the family inventory. Done a factory reset. The problem has gotten slightly better but it's still there. The game is not on pause, I normally use 3 speed all the time unless something important is going on, but the games freezes for 2-5 real minutes. It does it so frequently that the game has become a drag to play. Last time I did a complete uninstall reinstall was a few days before Generations came out. I have all EP's and all SP's except Town Life. I have store content, no CC and never use mods. Any ideas or solutions?

I may be wrong but maybe putting the gamespeed on 3 all the time put stress on your computer.

Really? Yikes, I've played on 3 speed since the day I got the game!! I only slow it down when it's birthday time, wedding time or a few other occasions. I never knew it would hurt my computer or game!  :'(

But when I'm playing, I want to play. Not read a book or do something else. They have my full attention. Yes they are very entertaining, but 1 speed is too slow for me lol. Tell ya what, next time I open my Dynasty, I'll try 1 speed and see if that solves my lagging issue. On one hand I hope it does but on the other I don't want to play 1 speed. Lol the sacrifices we make for them.  ::)

Indeed speed 3 hurts the computer, it affects the entire town, and pushes the game to the max, and even if you pause the game, it does help at the moment, but sims 3 is poorly coded, it hardly releases any memory, and as lovesims suggested, look at the fps, it could be your graphic settings too high.

I turned it on to check the FPS. Mine are between 13-22. I'm going back in to play on 1 speed for awhile and hope it works. I don't know how my graphics could be to high, my animals are severely deformed and I need a new card.
EDIT: This is weird. I left the FPS on so I could keep an eye on it, and I went into the basement where Kelvin and Paige are sculpting, and it went up to 50-53! But when I went back in the front yard it was 20-24. I don't understand what those numbers mean but hopefully you or someone else will. Also, the 1 speed is sooo slow!! Probably because I'm used to 3.

Is that the Halliwell Dynasty? And aren't the walls and floors really bright? Because if so, I'm going to guess that the FPS is increased with bright colors.

Yes and yes. Ok that makes sense than. It's still doing it but not as bad. Also, I was staring at the game clock and it went from 2:59 to 3:01 lol. I also checked my graphics and everything is on low and the advanced rendering is unchecked.

@Esther:

I suggest you make a separate topic for your problems.  I don't think this topic is the best place for it.  If you want, I can split your posts and the responses into a new topic for you.  Or you can just start a new one.  Whichever you prefer.

I'm sorry Pam, I figured this was the right topic.  :-[ If you want to you can since I can't move the responses, but I really hate making extra work for you. I'm so sorry.

No worries, Esther.  It's just a judgement call and I that, although your issue came up because of this topic, it's specific enough to your particular situation to deserve it's own thread.  I'll do the split now.

It is 100% your graphic card, you either have to lower the setting really low, since you have pets installed, or remove pets, basement gives you more Fps because it does not have any outside environmental elements to render, which is very helpful? "FPS" means Frame per second, that is the number of images treated by your computer per second, so the higher the better, but of course there are limits, the best FPS for most common games is 60 Fps, so in your first case you were pretty far from the good stuff :P for more help I would need to know what is your graphic card and screen size/resolution :)

That's what I figured. I'm thinking about removing the pets I have from my home until I get my new card. My card right now is the Intel G33/G31 Chipset which is known now to be incompatible with Pets. Which I think is crazy since I could play the game with absolutely no problem until I installed Pets, but oh well. I'm not sure, where do I find the screen size resolution? I have a HP 2009 series wide LCD monitor if that helps.

I know that this is your Dynasty file, but I found that deleting parking lots has had a really positive influence on my game speeds. I bet Metro will give you permission to go to Edit Town and delete the parking lots on public lots.
