Horses don't have eyes
« on: December 25, 2011, 10:37:46 AM »
I'm sure I read about this somewhere, but now I can't find the thread. (could a moderator merge this with an existing thread if there is one? Thank you. :))

I recently got Pets and have problem with horses - they have only eyeholes, not eyes at all. They creep me out!

I google'd it and seems like it's a common problem, but I didn't find a solution. It seems this problem comes and goes for some people, but on the two games I have, all the horses lack eyes. Sims & other pets are fine (althoug sometimes there is black dots on cats eyes, but I think it depends on the angle they are viewed from)

Any solutions? I have a few CC items (couple hairstyles & clothes) but NO mods at all.

Do you have advanced rendering on? I read somewhere if it is off pets can look not right. :)

It's on. I checked my graphic settings, and they're all maxed except for tree details & plot details. Also, I forgot to mention earlier that my game is fully updated, so I have the latest patch which assumingly fixed some problems related to Pets.

EDIT.
I did some more testing. Horses have eyes on CAS (or CAP, anyway), but ingame they all lack eyes. The pic I posted is not too good, but in the game it's visible that they're not just black eyes, but a dark hole in their heads.

I have it, too, and I tried resetSim but it didn't fix it. I guess I'll ignore it, and just play like they have eyes, just a glitch I guess.

In my game if the horse is outside the eyes look dark not black holes but very dark. In the barn it look normal. In cap it is also normal. Take your hosrse in the barn and have a look. :)

Is it possibly an issue with an insufficient graphics card?

I guess so... I bought a new graphics card after Generations was released, and had my hubby pick me a quality one... it wasn't cheap, but now it doesn't function properly with Pets. Tough luck I guess.  I'll try updating the drivers but if it doesn't help, I guess I have to live with these zombie horses.  ;)

I adopted a horse in game and tested it; they don't have eyes inside the barn either. I took it to CAS and noticed that the eyes there seem kind of blurry and ugly, too, so I don't think they show up right in CAS either.

I'm so sorry that you have problems. Updating the drivers  might help and if all fails  try and uninstall everything.  Just make sure that you install the games in the right order.

I have the same problem and I have a pretty good graphics card. My settings are all on medium-high and all the graphics options are checked. It never really bugged me too much but I do wonder why the eyes show in CAP but not in game.

Noodles, what Graphics card do you have? It seems I have only had that problem with Union Cove, where I have to turn all my settings down to the bottom.

You mean the horses in your game, or in UC to be more exact, have no eyes, but on other towns they do have?
This makes me wonder if I could fool around with my graphic settings a bit more to see if I get the eyes to show. Maybe in SV or some smaller town.

My card is "ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series", I assume. (I don't know too much about computers, my fiance built this computer for me... but I think I found the right info from the control panel?)

I updated the drivers for it (read: the man did), but it didn't change anything. So I decided just to let it be like this, the eyes are the only issue I have so I try to live with it. :)
I've noticed Appaloosa Plains is a little hard on my computer, I had to lower the settings little bit to be able to move the camera around smoothly. It also loads slower. But I'm still able to keep most graphic settings on 'high' and don't have further problems with pets (fur etc) so I'll consider myself lucky.

I have a Nvidia GT520, and I have only had the no eyes on horse when I turned my graphic settings all the way down. I only turned them down to play UC.

Oookay, this is a bit strange. When I play with High graphic settings, I have no eyes on horses, but I tried lowering everything and the eyes actually appeared. They look murky and ugly thouhg:

Are they supposed to look like this? No glimmer or anything... human sims have such pretty eyes I assume horses' should look way better too.
