Self-employed no option please help!

Hi. I want to be self-employed for writing, but when I go to city hall or computer or phone, the option doesn't come up. I've mastered it and was wondering why it's not there?

Do you have Ambitions?  As far as I know, and I might be wrong so please correct me if I am, but I think you can only register your sim as self employed if you have the Ambitions EP.

I thought the self-employed professions became available to everyone in the patch that came out with Ambitions.  When you click on City Hall, do you get the Register as Self-Employed option at all?  Normally, you'd click it, then select the profession.  And your Sim is level 10 in Writing?

I only seemed to have the self-employed option once I installed AMB, and as I only begun playing TS3 in April earlier this year, I would have been playing on patches that arrived far later than AMB. Having said that, I may just not have been observant enough.

I can tell you for certain that with Late Night, but without Ambitions, the only Self-Employed option I had was "Band". Adding Generations got me "Daycare". It was only when I got Ambitions that I got writer, sculptor, inventor, etc.

Yeah it is level 10 ok maybe it's that I don't have ambitions. Thanks!

My sim registered as self employed writer with just 2 skill points. She didn't have to get to skill level 10.

I was having the same problem and I was looking around for answers. While I was looking around, I found something. I think you might need to at least have one skill level point with the job you want to get self-employed in.
