Yes, it's Featured Items. Featured Items present possible items for you based on your purchase history. If you don't like seeing them, disconnect from the internet, and they'll disappear.

That is one of the new functions with the patch.  I read that is the reason some people are having problems after the patch.  I don't have my buy mode turned on, so I haven't seen this yet.

Are you sure?  I wasn't connected from the internet, and they still showed up in my game.

I think you also need to disable "shop mode" under the misc. options for those featured items not to shop up anymore.

I played at my grandmother's house on my laptop with no wireless connections around, and they didn't show up. And, I don't know how to disable shop mode.

Under the Options menu, there is the option to turn shop mode off.  You find it under the General Options tab.

The items seem to be downloaded onto your computer courtesy of the patch in a folder called 'FeaturedItems'.

I patched up.  I didn't notice any new problems.  I wondered if they fixed the issues I had in the World Adventures with the photography. And after the previous patch the fish my Sims caught while on vacation disappeared when they got home.  Need to test it out.

So I finally got time to play Sims 3 again after a hectic few weeks.  I download the patch with anticipation of the new trees (which look awesome) when I went into buy mode and noticed the feature that Twinmum mentioned about the shop mode when connected to the internet.  I went through all the sections (plumbing, decor, etc) and found a ton of freebies!!  I was astonished at how many free items there were I thought I would share (I hope I am putting this in the right place, it's because I noticed it when I patched up apologies if it's not):


L-R Perfecto Presto, Home on the range grill, Means to an end end table, lips of love loveseat (probably my favourite) and Iams Cozy Companion Sofa


L-R Always time for music Clock, Not-a-street Floor Lamp, Banquett Fan, Giant Bonsai Tree and Study Fractures


L-R Commanding Shoji Screen, Faire Statue (another favourite), Honeycomb Book shelve and Retro Ride

I then decided to check out CAH to see if there were any freebies (I do love freebies and I came across these boots

I recognize a couple of those items from the Dr. Pepper giveaway - the boots, the turquoise car, the "Lips of Loveseat" - are they available for the general public now?

That bookshelf is a Memories reward as well? This is kind of annoying if these things are now just being free.

No that bookshelf isn't a memory reward it's free at the official site. It's just hard to dig up.
