2 questions about childhood!
« on: December 13, 2011, 06:38:32 PM »
Hello , I've just started playing Generations today, so pardon me if my questions turn out to be too easy.  :D
OK, first of all, my Sim has enrolled his daughter into a "boarding school" but the daughter does not go anywhere. She never leaves home. So, what is boarding school exactly? When will she actually go to school?

Second, the same Sim (the father) wants to read his daughter to sleep, but I can't figure out how to do this.

I can't answer the first one, but as for reading to sleep, you need to wait until the child has the 'sleepy' moodlet. I can't remember if you click on the bed, the child or the bookcase. It's good if you have skill books to read to them, because then they skill up at the same time!

With boarding school usually they leave the house and then become unplayable until they age up. They don't leave immediately so maybe try and wait a few days and then a car will come at 9am I believe to pick them up.

If the child don't go to boarding school you can delete her with the move objects on cheat. Her picture will be grayed out then. But save your game before you do it to be on te safe side. If the child get the tired moodlet they can ask a aduld for a bedtime story. You can read to toddlers as well it is very cute. Put the toddler in the crib and use the option read to sleep.

Oh, and if they still don't go, try to reset them and see if that makes them go.

It happen to me that the daughter don't go to boarding school. Save the game first and then delete her with the move objects on cheat. When kids go yo boarding school, their picture is greyed out and you cannot control them.

Try doing the process of sending her to boarding school again.  Have the parent do it.  Maybe it just didn't take the first time.

If the child don't go to boarding school you can delete her with the move objects on cheat. Her picture will be grayed out then. But save your game before you do it to be on te safe side.

I don't think deleting the child is a good idea.  Unless you've got some kind of new information, the child will disappear if deleted from the game, not become grayed out and at boarding school.

OK will try that , and when will she come back ? when she turns into teen ?

Yes, when she turns teen, you'll get a notice about it.  You can then decide if she comes home or stays in boarding school until she's a young adult.  Also, be aware that you cannot choose traits when she ages up if she's at boarding school.  But she'll come home with some skill points, which helps make up for it.

The solution has happened all by itself. :D  I sent the daughter to throw eggs at the neighbor's house! So after doing it. the police came to take her because she passed curfew. Then she was greyed out right after the policeman took her.
