Well, I come down on the side of being excited to have a new Expansion Pack. Yes, it looks to be focused on performing, but I don't think that's something that should have been included in Late Night. There's only so much content that can be released at a time. Would you really want vampires, high rise buildings, three new musical instruments, celebrity AND singing, DJs, circus acts, magicians, and whatever else is coming? That's just way too much to put into one expansion. I think each expansion will stand on its own nicely. Really, I think the reason the comparisons are being made is because it looks to be a "big city" environment. Lots of lights and flash.
The new social aspect will be very different. I'm somewhat doubtful that we'll be able to control our own Sims in someone else's game, but if it does come to that, I'm certain that Electronic Arts will have plenty of security in place. It's just unthinkable to be able to enter a stranger's game without permission. It's just not going to happen. And I can see why EA would include something like this in an expansion. Social networking has become a big part of our society and it's a natural progression for the game to start getting involved. The first we saw of it was the ability to share memories. Personally, I never do that, but there are plenty of people who do. It's entirely optional and there's no harm if someone opts out of that part. I expect the sharing in Showtime to be similar.
This expansion pack is bringing things that I've seen our members ask for again and again. Singing, pool tables, DJs, magic (even if it's not the same kind of magic). The fact is, Electronic Arts is listening... and delivering.
