I'm a bit of a bookworm and a hopeless romantic so when I made my self sim I gave her those traits and the lifetime wish of professional author, so once she could she started on romance novels.

I got a lot of name ideas just from that game as so much happened that I never expected, falling in love with the unlikeliest guy, evil Dallas Shallow, gave me quite a few about bad boy relationships.

Then she drowned in a freak accident at the community pool shortly after their third child turned toddler leaving him to raise them alone till he could resurrect her. Once she was back she started writting books called things like "The other side" and "The love that wouldn't die", really cheesy some of the titles but she earnt a fortune and they basically built their huge house on her royalties. It also incidently changed my opinion of her bad boy husband, he was devastated when she died, never seen a sim so cut up but he was a fantastic dad to those kids, tons of inspiration for tragic love story titles with those two sims.

My mother had a big collection of cheesy mills & boon romance books when I was a teen so I sort of imagined she was writing those, angsty love with the wrong guy but it's all happily ever after in the end. Shame I didn't have those for title reference, would have been great.

If you're looking to make cheesy romance titles just do what Harlequin or Mills and Boon do - make sure to include at least one of the following words:

Mistress
Boss
Duke
Tycoon
Secretary
Virgin
Sheikh
Greek
Playboy
Passion
Wife
Reluctant
Italian
Bed
Maid
Bride

Jestina,

How you played that sim is interesting.  I wonder what one who is the opposite would make, I am sure yours would make more, but I wonder what the difference would be, and if she used Lama or anything connected to the town, such as the names of hospitals, military bases and other on how much affect it would have (I can't belive I had to actually look affect up to make sure I had the right one  :( , I'll blame it on my headache).

I am going to try that out, I usually have my sim be Family O, Bookworm, Computer W. Love Outdoors and it is a toss up if the sim is Natural Cook, Romantic, or Good Sense of Humor, and they seem to get a good price, one is getting 53 sim dollars for what, a chapter, I think.  I focus mainly on the family, raising kids and the other sim's job.

I'm SuperMaxing Writing in my Immortal Dynasty, and I'm going for spoofs of famous novels/films. So far, De Arbol's only written "The 20-20 Side" (The Blind Side) and "Larry Otter and the Half-Baked Spoof" (Harry Potter).

In my multi-generational families, I will theme them as the generations go. In my legacy family, each heir has to write at least one novel as an "autobiography" so those all include their names and some reference to which generation's heir they are. There are also several like, "The Younger Ones: How to Raise Spares" and things like that.

In others, I'll pick a few of the random titles that could spawn sequels and just work off of those. Or I'll alter real-life titles, like many others have said - "No Country for Old Sims" was a favorite.

I've done spoofs of just about everything in order to get my book titles. For example:

Pealock Clones and the Study of Off-Red
Doctor What
Not Twilight, Old Moon, Not quite an Eclispe, Fixing Dawn
Parry Hotter and the various things

It really funny when I'm scrolling through the bookcase books and one appears.

I'm currently doing children's books. I like spoofs too. I've got

One Fish, Two Fish, Tragic Clownfish, and
Mr Purple Peeper's Party (Enid Blyton's Mr Pinkwhistle's Party)

I'm working on some more.

I've done a whole lot now (over 80), and starting to run out of ideas. Some of my best ones were:

Rita Rita Nectar Drinker
Snowie and the 7 Mysterious Mr. Gnomes
Moldysmock and the Three Dares
The Warmest Kitty
The Sleepiest Kitty
The Happiest Kitty
The Monkey and the Shmumpkin
Piper in Ponderland
Once I Caught A Minnow Alive
Crumplestiltskin
The Kitty in the Cap
Green Eggplants - A Sham

and my favourite non spoof one is Do You Want the Moon to Play With? If you know this one then we share a very very old lullaby :D

The Blue Screen of Death (Si-fi)
I think I’d prefer to keep those words in such particular order as far from my game as possible. :-\

Anyway, here’s some titles I’ve been using recently:
  • From Skeptic to Fanatic: Working with the Supernatural (Non-Fiction)
  • 30 Years of Wrecking: A Professional's Guide to Demolition (Humor? ??? I can’t exactly remember, but it was spoofing Wreck-It Ralph.)
  • Rise of the Dark Moon (Horror)
I had more titles in mind, but when I came here my mind blanked. Go figure. ::) Maybe I’ll remember and edit them in later.
“When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back!” - Cave Johnson, Portal 2
“You ought to upgrade to Windows 7!”, they said. “It’ll help your games run so much better!”, they said. If I see them again, then they had better know how to stabilize an on-the-fritz copy of The Sims 3 that was working just fine on Windows XP.

I like taking titles from real life and substituting "Sim" in them, like, "Sim Wars" for Star Wars, "Sim Trek" for Star Trek (for science fiction), and add Episode 1, Episode 2, etc.  One of my Sims wrote a science fiction book titled "The Day the Sim Stood Still."  For some of the children's books, I use Sim and Sam in place of Jack and Jill (from the nursery rhyme), for example, Sim and Sam Go Up The Hill, Sim and Sam Come Down the Hill.  I once had a Sim "Ayn Rand", made her a writer, then used the Atlas Shrugged title but substituted Sim names for Atlas, i.e. Agnes Shrugged, Christopher Shrugged, etc.  I love making up book titles!

One of my favorite things to do with book titles has to do with lots I upload. I usually have a session where I get four or five sims on the same lot and crank out fiction or non-fiction books that have humorous titles that have something to do with the lot. Then I collect all the books once they have come in the mail in one sim and move them into my lot I am about to upload. Then I stash the books with the titles in one or several of the bookcases. After that I move the sim out and upload the lot. The titles of the books in the bookcases transfer. On my showcase threads, I always find it interesting to see which of my friends will actually go looking for the titles, or if any downloaders happen by them on accident. It is really fun when doing a build for a contest or around someone's specific sim.

The first time I did it I had just discovered the transmogrification bit of WA, so I used a lot of skulls and large spire cut gems I created with that around the lot. The back story was the guy that built the fishing retreat was Old Man Carter and he made his cash off of transmogrification, and then created the Carter's Display as well as wrote a bunch of self-help books how to do it. Titles like "More Cowbell: Getting the Big Gems", "Transfigurification: Silly Name, Serious Money", "Turning Iron into Serious, Cold, Hard Cash", "Awaken the Transfigurificationist Within", "Where to Pick Up Chics, I Mean Rocks", etc... I dropped a few hints in my write up for the lot and a handful of friends found them and got a kick out of it. In my TS3 showcase thread for the lot, several of my friends even posted their own pictures of their sims sitting there reading the titles where I had stashed them. Since then I have done the same thing around the theme of ghosts, the troglodyte gnomes, and contest builds for specific people. It is hard to explain how cool it is when people like your build for the build's sake, but also find the humorous book title easter eggs hidden in there too.

I usually just make up random ones either based on things I like or inside jokes with friends. Mostly, I go for something that will make me giggle. Some of my favorites:

It Came from Under the China Cabinet
Harry Potter and the Fullmetal Alchemist and Jerusalem My Destiny!
And Then There Was Space
What Rachel is Cooking
