I'm a HUGE DC fan in real live. So here are some book names: Hawkman and Hawkwoman, Together Forever (Romance), Batman Volume One: Who Is the Red Hood? (Childern... Poor kids) How To Work With An Assion Trained Robin (Nonfiction), Batman Volume Two:  A New (Not Dead) Batman (Once again, poor mently scarred childern) and The Life and Times Of A Supervillen (Humor). These aren't all of them, but my favorites. ;D

Oh yeah, this is the thread for me.

I’m a RL writer so I sometimes name my Sim’s books after my own. I also use the default titles and if one comes up more than once, make a sequel. I remember having my Sim write a drama series “Attack of the Cougars”! Naming books after RL movies and books also is fairly common; i.e. “Azumanga Daioh” for Humor, “2012” for Sci-Fi, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” for Children’s, ect. Parodies also float around on occasion, like “Simming for Dummies”.
“When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back!” - Cave Johnson, Portal 2
“You ought to upgrade to Windows 7!”, they said. “It’ll help your games run so much better!”, they said. If I see them again, then they had better know how to stabilize an on-the-fritz copy of The Sims 3 that was working just fine on Windows XP.

If you play a dynasty or legacy file you could always give titles reflecting what's happening in game. That's what I usually do.

I sometimes use the title given and then tweak it a bit, but I mostly either make up my own titles or use a theme. I've used tv episode titles, real novel titles, nature (flowers/trees/gems), colors, and poem lines before.   One of my favorite writers named all his Sci-fi novels after the Star Trek books I own.  Another theme I often use is song titles.  For instance, with my current author couple, every novel my female sim writes is named after a Loreena McKennit or Kate Rusby song.  Her husband's novels are titled after Sting songs, so there is Valparaiso, Lithium Sunset, A Thousand Years, They Dance Alone, De Do Do Do, etc.

My favorite theme, I think, was centered around proverbs/sayings: As The Crow Flies, A Bird in the Hand, A Stitch in Time, The Devil is in the Details, and A Rolling Stone Gathers.

Try using a favourite song or poem and using the phrases in it.

For example:

OH, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet,
Till Earth and Sky stand presently at God’s great Judgment Seat;
But there is neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth,
When two strong men stand face to face, tho’ they come from the ends of the earth!

There are at least 20 super romantic titles in the song "Some Enchabted Evening";  Or try nursery rhymes: Hey Diddle Diddle. The Cat and the Fiddle. etc.  (Five good children's books).  Almost any poem, lyric or rhyme can be used in this way.

Other ways I have used are to go through the Alphabet using pairs of names such as Anna and Andy, Bob and Bella etc.  Or, well known latin phrases: Ich Dien, Caviat Emptor, etc.
“In this world, there is nothing softer or thinner than water. But to compel the hard and unyielding, it has no equal. That the weak overcomes the strong, that the hard gives way to the gentle -- this everyone knows. Yet no one asks accordingly.”

I usually get my titles from the stories and names that are already in the game. For example, a murder story that might have occured at Twinbrook or Riverview.
I also make up titles about my Sim family's activies for example, Musketero Family Chronicles etc.

I've been having fun with the writing helpers in my Immortal Dynasty. Books like "Dynasty Heirs and YOU! How you help," "Immortal Spares - It's better to be the prince," and "One more book for the Immortal overlord." I was on a 30 day vacation and the kid supermaxed writing and painting and every book had some sort of tie-in to the Dynasty. I remember one was "The New Monster Dynasty!"

I usually use the random title the game gives me and if it is the same one I'll do a Part 2, Continues, A New Day, or some continuation.  I also put an author on it so it can have Time Spy by John Smith and Time Spy by Justine Smith (husband and wife) and I can use the same book title twice (or more if the kids end up writing.  If I have to I'll also change one word in the title Time Spy becomes Time Watcher becomes Clock Watcher becomes Watch Watcher etc.

:)

I played with the Grisby family once, and all the book titles had ugly in them somewhere.

That amused me.

Which witch watched the witch watch? Sorry, couldn't resist the old tongue twister.

Seriously, though, I have had fun looking around at my books (I have almost thirteen six foot tall bookcases full) and picking one. So, I get fairly normal ones and I get funny ones. For instance: Son of a Witch becomes biography, Star Wars becomes non-fiction (I wish), or Color Atlas of Human Anatomy becomes horror. The latter is oddly appropriate, since the images used in the particular edition I have are cross sections of cadavers.... (I wanted to be a doctor when I was younger and my mother was a big believer in learning - we picked it up at ODU's college bookstore when I was about fourteen.)

I wind up having to abbreviate and drop vowels here and there, but it's still fun.
A 1920s era house needing heat, AC, new floors, new drywall on the walls and ceilings, new bathroom fixtures, new kitchen cabinets, new water heaters.... The roof is sound, but why didn't I just buy an empty lot?

I like having a snobby, moody, love starved author (I always picture Agnes Crumplebottom) and have her write trashy romances named after cheesy love ballads from the 80's. My favorites are songs by Meatloaf or Bonnie Tyler with titles like "loving you is a dirty job.." Heh

I like to use the titles of books I have read that fit, such as Time Traders for one of the SF books and others from the same author, or change one part of the title; Future Spy, Time Spy, Rebel Spy, and such.

The "fun" part is when you have more than one author in the home.  Which one wrote what book when it tells you to take a book to China or somewhere; who wrote which book if there are three with the same title?

What I hate to give names to are paintings, especially if my sim does the same one over and over and over and over and . . .  One sim did the same painting (I counted them) seven times.

As long as the writer is churning out a steady stream of books I don't care much what they are called. Anything with llama in it is usually good. The Softest Llama, Llama Drama, Llama Droppings, A Llama encounter, Llama's In lace, etc.

I had an evil, insane writer that wrote children's books. My last writer did vaudeville and my current one is doing romance. You pretty much have to be a recluse and crazy to make money as a writing sim. My vaudeville writer was a neurotic that comforted herself by checking the sink and freaking out at the computer...but she was getting nearly 50k in royalties as she neared elder.
