What expansions should I get?
« on: November 24, 2011, 07:32:54 PM »
I haven't come here in a while....anyway.

Some of my relatives are crossing the border to go black friday shopping for my christmas gifts(I'm canadian btw) and I was wondering, now that alot of expansions have come out, which ones, for a new and easily distracted/bored player, should I get?

PS: Please, don't say stuff packs, unless you have a really, REALLY good reason for it.

I'd recommend World Adventures -- the tombs should keep you entertained for a while. Or you could try Ambitions and fight fires or style Sims or work as a Private Eye instead of just going to a rabbit-hole job.

Pets is a must! It completes your game by a mile! And Generations. It expands life experiences and makes the game even more enjoyable.

I think at first you should definately get ambitions and/or late night. Those were the first ones I got and satisfied me for a while until I could afford any others.
If at first you don't succeed, call it version 1.0.

My order would be:
World Adventures, adds the most to the game and is super fun.
Pets, adds second most and looks really cool even though I dont have it
Ambitions, I love this one and the professions are fun like exploring tombs (in a way)
Generations, I'm not a big baby-teen fan and doesnt seem to add as much gameplay as the others
Late night, sorry, but I'm am not a fan. It does add quite a bit of content however

If I could choose only one expansion, it would be pets.  Electronic Arts has even produced the base game plus Pets together.  That sounds to me that even the creators of the game believe that Pets completes it in a special way.

It's very hard to choose between the others.  Each one is great in its own way.  You can probably find bundles that can be purchased together to save some money.  That's the case when you order online from EA, at least.

I also think Pets is the best choice. All expansions is good but pets is wonderful!

And I might be the only one that don't like Pets that much, even if I realy love animals in RL. I lost interest in horses in around 30 minutes, dogs started to be annoying after an hour of cleaning random veggies around the lot, and even if I am still liking my cat and small animals, I really don't like wild horses wondering around my mansion or ultra modern club.

I think that World Adventure is the best EP, as Sportsfan said. There are so many tombs in all 3 worlds that it take some time to complete them all and it is worth playing them several times. Plus 3 worlds to explore and awesome skills and collectables.

Ambitions - Professions added to diversity to the gameplay because you never know what will happen or where, and you're involved all the time. Definitely worth getting it.

Late Night - third best in my opinion - many new venues even if very similar to each other and with same function (clubs, bars and lounges - in all of them you drink, dance, play instruments and trow parties/socialise), Bridgeport and living in the City makes all the difference. I don't like vampires and celebrities, so it is just a new town and many entertaining objects for me (and skills I like).

Pets before Generations - Generations are worth getting only if you like playing legacies and family oriented Sims. Additions are minor in my opinion, plus no new town.

As for SP - if you don't like building it's a waste of money. I like OLSP the most, but as I said, if you don't like building - don't buy any of them.

No, you're not the only one.  I love my dogs and animals in general, but training virtual animals just doesn't interest me that much - I'd much rather spend time doing things with my real dogs.  I'd be a lot more interested in Pets if it had new careers and skills, other than the horse-riding one.

Personally, I like to play adult Sims and focus on skills, jobs, and other adult-oriented activities, which makes World Adventures and Ambitions my favourite EPs.  People who play with families tend to like Generations, but to me it just didn't offer very much.  And as for Late Night - it had some interesting features, but I disliked celebrities and vampires so much that I wound up uninstalling it.

So, Eggman, I think the answer to your question is that the best EP really depends on the player and what s/he likes to do in the game.  What most appeals to you in the Sims?  What do you tend to spend most of your time doing?  The nice thing about the various EPs is that they all focus on different aspects of the game, so there should be something for everyone.  Know thyself!  ;)

Great question. Agreed, it's about your interests and likes. Mine are Vamps so late night was a must have for me. I'm a rider so Pets pleased me so much.  So I guess that's really what you should be looking at.
