I have looked and looked but couldn't find the Gnome of the Darned at the fortune teller lot. Maybe you have to meet requirements to get him to spawn there! I played in Moonlight Falls and looked during the day and night but nothing! I looked several different times!

Findings:

The game looks at the desirability of an object to a gnome when it picks it. For instance, it will take into consideration location, whether it's a plant, the value, and whether it is a favorite object or not.

It adds 3 if the object is outside, 3 if it is a plant, 2 if the object is worth more than $500, and it will subtract 3 for each other magic gnome that the object is a favorite of.

So for example: A stereo, worth $750, is placed outside and 4 gnomes have this as a favorite object. To calculate the desirability of this object for one of these gnomes:

1. The object is outside (+3)
2. The object is not a plant (0)
3. The object is worth more than $500 (+3)
4. Two other gnomes favorite this object (-6)

The desirability for this object is 3 + 0 + 3 - 6 = 0.

A second desirability number is considered. This is dependent on the age of the gnome - toddlers prefer Toys and Cribs, children prefer Toys and Playground Objects, Teens prefer other Teen Magic Gnomes (would appreciate another coder checking out GetTeenDesireability in Sims3.Gameplay.Objects.Environment.MagicGnome to be sure of this).

Finally, this test is performed: If the age modifier is greater than 1 AND the base modifier is exactly equal to 0, then set the base modifier to 1. Finally the two values are multiplied and presto - we have the desirability of the object.

Humanised:

Table I: Age Modifier Values
Plant                Teen Gnomes                 Toys                Playground Objects                 Cribs
Toddler1.501.501.5
Child1.501.51.50
Teen1.51.5000

Table II: Base Modifier Values
Outside                Plant                 Value > $500                Penalty per Gnome with Favorite
3323 (Penalty)

Add all applicable values in Table I and all applicable values in Table II.

If the total value of Table I is greater than 1, and the total value of Table II is 0, discard Table II's value. It is now 1.

Multiply the value of the two tables together to get the base desirability of the object. :D From here it is permuted depending on the gnome.

Part II: Vampire Gnomes

If you don't have one, and you have "enough [Plasma Fruit] plants", there is a 50% chance one will spawn, and it spawns at 9PM.

He's hard to find for sure.  He hides in the brambles and bushes and since he's greyish and kind of see through, he's hard to spot.  Try behind and to the right of the gypsy wagon in some weeds or shrubs.  That's where I consistently find him.

I finally got a Zenyatta gnome today which is just what I was trying for.  No licking the salt for 80 licks.  There were a random few licks I wasn't able to prevent.  My ZG appeared after my horse was friends with the husband and BFF with his owner.  He was also level 5 in racing and jumping and she was level 10 in riding but I don't think that had much to do with it.  I think it was the BFF thing.  My next try is to see if you get a Freezer Bunny gnome from eating the FB ice cream.  No dogs barking or cats freaking.

Anyone able to clue me in on the Friend Peanut Butter and Banana thing?  You get a gnome from this?

Thanks for the help and update on when gnomes arrived.  Which expansion pack.
What?  Grannies can't play games?
I speak perfect Nooblik, (and some Simlish)!

If you leave Fried Peanut Butter and Banana out, there is a chance (I think it is 50% but I am noticing discrepancies in the code) that at 9PM, an Elvis Gnome is spawned. The singer one from Showtime.

Joria requested a picture of the horse gnome doing his jump pose, so here it is for all to enjoy, lol.

To get that gnome, the Elvis one, do you have to have the Showtime pack?

Also with the freezer bunny?  Do you have to have pets to get that gnome?

For the winter gnome, is there anything else besides building snowmen?  My sims have built at least 40 and no gnome has shown up.  How many are needed and does the number of sims making the snowmen help or hinder?  And what type, does it have to be certain ones?

Sorry so many questions, but I really want to get all of the season gnomes, can't seem to get the winter one at all.

Still working on the different ways of getting the seasons gnomes. I have not yet gotten one of the winter gnomes, but I know that Joria has.

It's a very small chance to get the winter gnome from snowmen.   I got one when my family had a guest that made a single one in an entire 10 day winter.

The easiest way is to get 500 tickets and get it that way from the festival.

I read somewhere that if the snowmen are built on a snowday it can increase your chances.

It just so happens that I just got a winter gnome by accident. My sim teenager made her very first snowman, and soon afterwards, he appeared:

I moved him inside, then he moved out again the next day to do a pose next to the same snowman (which was probably still the only snowman if I recall correctly): - I went into buy mode to see him clearly...

I think my sim may have made that first snowman on a snow day - I can't confirm it, but I'd say it's probable from what I remember. I am happy to have him. :)

*giggles* What a funny Easter Egg. Fried peanut butter and banana sandwich was one of Elivs' favorite meals.

Just recently have had to uninstall my games all the way back to Ambitions, so this has been a golden opportunity to find out from each EP when and how the related gnomes show up.  Almost wish I had gone back to base.  So at the moment I can't answer your first two questions, although I did try, (and failed), with the PB&B sandwhich!

Number of Sims making snowmen don't matter.  What DOES matter is the temperature.  I tried several times and several different ways with the snowmen thing.  No winter gnome.  Then I tried igloos and snow angels.  No snowmen.  I noticed the things I was making kept melting.  AHA!  Eureka moment!  I set my temperature the next time around to 32 f and voila, first try with a snowman and I got the winter gnome.  I really need to test that one again because I also had snow level set at deep and snow fall was pretty heavy that day.

At the moment I'm playing with Ambitions.  Haven't been able to reinstall due to family issues causing lack of time.  So far I was unable to acquire gnomes by sending away ores and gems in France but got a ton of them by sending away ores and gems in China.  I'm playing in MV at the moment.

I did acquire gnomes by "removing" them to my back pack from the art gallery in France which has led me to try with every gnome I see.  The ones on Monte Vista lots, (empty houses), cannot be acquired this way.  However, I decided to add Anushka's outdoor market from the Swap Shop to MV and there were several gnomes there.  At first it was only the various country type gnomes but one day I saw 3 MMG's as well.  Why?  Don't know.  I think MV might have spawned them.  In any case all of them were acquired by moving them to my back pack.

My Sim in MV is an inventor and sculptor.  So far two invention gnomes, Rusty and Clang, lol, and both of them are perfectly willing to complete an invention when they decide to do it.  It is random and I'm not sure if they prefer big inventions, (both were), or if they will also do small ones.  I spent hours watching them while my Sim sculpted a ton of stuff but they never completed an item until I moved both my Sim and myself out of the room!

My MV gnomes will not have nooboos nor age.  That comes with a later pack and there is no way to get a freezer bunny gnome.

I have mined 9 gnomes so far.  Each one has been a MMG.  No trogs or evils or even the statue one.

So far fishing has turned up nothing but haven't fished much.  I now have two kids from traveling to the past and a wife so they will be my fisher Sims.

I have acquired two really cool outfits from time travel to the past and what is more interesting is my kids also get copies of them suited to their age!  Way cool!  No cave man outfit yet though and no trog gnome.

JB thanks you for the pic of the jumping zenyatta.  Way cute!

Sorry for the double post.

Sculptor gnome appeared at supermax level of sculpting skill.  Has anyone gotten one sooner?

I finally got a gnome in the Chinese mausoleum, (Master Manchu), but so far none in hometown, France or Egypt.  Have any of you gotten them in a mausoleum in those places and were they native to the area?

Installed up to LN now and after 3 plasma fruit planted got my first Vampire Gnome almost as soon as the seeds were in the ground.  The plants were at sprout stage.  Has anyone gotten one with fewer plants?  Having the fruit in your inventory, laying around on your lot or in your refrigerator does not generate a VG.

Still no trog gnome from mining.

Most gnomes have 3-4 poses.  MMG has 5-6.

Generations is my next install.  Bring on the nooboos and elders!  (And if I'm lucky, a teen!)

I am far from an authority on this, but I've never seen a gnome in Egypt, and the only ones I've seen in France are the ones at the museum.

Sometimes they appear in the Treasure Chests in tombs.  Other times, I've bought them from the Relic Merchant or found them lurking around the Marketplace.  You can also find them fishing but not often.  After buying one in Egypt I think I got about three more in Treasure Chests on the same trip.
