You can't stop them, bwha, ha, ha, ha, ha! :)
In Sims 1 they also always went for the wine (which was actually allowed to be called wine!).

There was wine in The Sims 1? I can't remember that. And gnomes back in that game I can't remember either.

Btw: why are all my gnomes sneaking to my nectar basement every time I am not looking? If I will ever find one hiccup or throw up, I know I will immediatly get rid of them all! That nectar is worth more than $6000,-. Per bottle! :O

Those gnomes are all party animals!  The creepiest thing though is to see a gnome watching your Sim sleeping.  Gives me the willies.

The gnome-making bench was introduced in one of the TS1 EPs along the way (I forget which one, but it was before Makin' Magic).  They would explode if kicked.  It was fun to line them all up like dominoes then kick the first one over and watch them all explode.

You could bewitch them as well and they would act as your 24/7 gardeners until the spell wore off. If you had wine anywhere on your lot they would normally swim around in it and by the time they petrified again, they'd all be in weird, drunken positions.

So, is there any point in even thinking of keeping the gnomes you get in the mail since they all seem to poof by day 3?  I mean, one thousand simoleons per sale!  If there was a definitive come back little gnomey point I'd keep mine, but at the moment I get annoyed when I really, really wanted that ingot and got a gnome instead so I just sell it off.

To sum it up, you'd either save the gnome in a chest until a patch fixes that vanishing problem, or you sell it. They don't bring in so much joy when they're gone. :-\

Like, one of those treasure chests you can buy?  I keep my gems in them and my ingots but never thought I could keep gnomes.  I wonder if they escape?

They won't escape, they will hide with their horde and guard it.... Oh wait... gnomes not dragons....

Actually, I think you've hit on something!  You know those glowing, creepy eyes in the mines?  GNOMES!  I mean, really.  What exactly do gnomes do if not mine things?  We take them away from their horde, (which is why they occasionally show up in our mail instead of ingots or gems), and of course they are going to pop right back into the mine the first chance they can get.  Then, when we go there to "collect", (they say, "steal"), gems and such, they watch us from the darkness.  Yep.  It's gnomes in there.

Since the patch, has anyone found that their missing (invisible) gnomes are reappearing? All at once, or gradually?

I have now got 3 Magic Washing Gnomes they were found while doing the laundry at home. Does anyone know what they do?

@pbrover:  Mostly they just misbehave and then disappear.  :)

The notes from the patch say: The magical laundry bear Abracadabra will no longer block Sims from moving after disappearing. That sounds like the disappearance is part of the intended behavior. Weird.

Also: Magical gnomes from Ambitions will now behavior[sic] appropriately. This makes me wonder if the garden gnomes and WA gnomes will still be disappearing, as has been happening since Ambitions came along, or if this just refers to the inventing, troglodyte, sculpting, and laundry gnomes new to Ambitions.

Can we track post-patch gnome behavior in this thread, or should it be a separate thread?

I haven't been following this thread closely, so I apologize if this has already been covered.  Do magic gnomes time travel?  I just had one of my sims travel to the future, and a while after that I noticed that a Sultan Sam gnome was on the lot - I was wondering where it came from.  It wasn't listed as one of the things my sim brought back from his trip, so for those who have lost gnomes - maybe they're emigrating to my game!  (strange things have been known to happen in this game of mine  ;) ).
