Chapter 13 - Hello, it's Rhea

Hello everyone! My name's Rhea. You'll probably know a lot about me already, apparently Mum's been keeping this book of stories and photos since we were born. She's a bit of a storyteller, there's a whole basement full of pictures and scuptures and keepsakes. I'm writing this bit for you mostly because she told me to. I agreed mostly because some of the events I'm going to write about are probably my fault, and some of the rest is about me. I got promoted yesterday to International Super Spy (not that I can tell you what I do in my job, it's all top secret according to the government), you see.

However, the biggest story in this house currently is obviously all about little Anwen, Rhi's daughter. I can't work out if Mum's upset she's only got one grandaughter, as she often looks like it when she looks at Anwen. Although I also think she's rather pleased when Anwen pulls a prank or eats the sushi she'd made for herself. Danette and I don't want kids though (there's no way I'd be able to do my job with one, and Dani's not really the motherly sort), and I think Rhos would be a liability with one. She's enough of a liability with a chisel.

I digress. Anwen's a lovely child. She loves painting, and we've found her a step so she can actually reach an easel (it was messy otherwise).

One day she started talking to thin air. Everyone thought she was going mad like Rhos. Except Rhos, who finally thought there was another normal person in the house. I realised soon though that she must have been a recipent of one of the Imaginarium Dolls that the government had accidentally released, and that she must be talking to her Doll. A quick chat with Anwen proved that that was the case. She did look funny though.

Through my work I knew of a way to make these Imaginarium Dolls into real children. Anwen agreed that she wanted to do this with me, so I set to work with a chemistry table I "borrowed" from work. It didn't always go smoothly but eventually I got the potion.

I went upstairs to Anwen's room, where she was pillow fighting with Amelia (or, as it looked like to me, attacking the air with a pillow, violently). I handed her the potion, she handed it to Amelia, and then we were engulfed in sparkles. Despite my training in logic, I was terrified it wasn't going to work.

But, here's Amelia. Her presence took some explaining to the rest of the family. Mum seemed to think she was mine and Dani's. Rhiannon (who'd heard the most about Doll formed Amelia) ended up retreating to the hatchery in confusion. Nick, who'd also heard a bit about the Dolls, seemed more concerned about the mess she was making. And Rhos seemed disappointed that Anwen was just as insane as the rest of us.

Well, that's all from me, I think. I was going to write about me, Rhi and Rhos becoming Adults, but apparently Rhos wants to do that. I can't promise you it'll make any sense, though.

Chapter 14 - Becoming Older, Wiser and Even More Insane

Birthdays. They are Mysterious Mr Gnome's fault. The cake and the gnomes are in cahoots.

Rhiannon says I have to write about our birthdays without saying anything that can't factually be proved to be true. But I can factually prove that Mysterious Mr Gnome and the cake are in cahoots, because they told me so. So there, Rhi. And they say I'm the insane one. It's like the time she told me that there weren't any dragons in the boiler cupboard at school. But she had to believe me when I drew a picture of them.

Rhi had her cake first. She's got the longest hair, see.

She looks the same as she did before. This is why birthdays are a conspiracy.

Then Rhea.

She decided she wanted a different look. Mum said that this proves that birthdays are real. But it's really just that she let her hair grow out and found some new clothes in the drawers. The cake didn't do that. Otherwise the cake would be a stylist, and I've never seen it working at the salon.

And lastly it was my turn. See, no change here either.

I've also been asked to stick in these photos of Anwen and Amelia. So here you are. They are, respectively, of Anwen doing her homework, Rhea tutoring Amelia, them both painting together, and Anwen with blue hair because the shower bit her.

Exciting, wasn't it.

Rhoslyn Afon

I've never played this far into one family before! It's teaching me a lot about how the game works, if proving stressful. At the moment I'm a lot further forward than the story is (Rhiannon, Rhoslyn and Rhea are elders, Amelia and Anwen are YAs, there's eight in the house and I'm hoping Nick will die soon as it's mental), so the info below might not be 100% accurate. I'm going to try and post a bit more often until the story's caught up closer to where my game is.

I'm loving your story! Congrats on the immortal. Think of having 8 in the house now as training for when you have 8 immortals all together.

Chapter 15 - Terrible Teens

This chapter is going to be almost entirely about Anwen and Amelia. Nick says I'm being an "overly proud mother". But it's more the fact that they're the only two who are doing anything interesting at the moment. The rest of us are being fairly predictable.

I'm fishing almost constantly, to try and get my last promotion in my career.

Rhea's honing her logic skill. Here she is doing chemistry, creating a 'Ninja Vanish Potion'. No idea what it does, I didn't want to ask.

Rhos is always scuplting, as she's also trying to get her last promotion in her sculpting career. We've tried to talk her out of doing it in her bikini, but it's yet to work.

Nick's taken up the guitar when he's not at work or upgrading things.

And Mum's discovered the trampoline. I'm really not sure she should be going upside down at her age, but I don't dare suggest that she stops. It's probably best to wait for her to stop.

So, onto the girls. They finished out their child years much the same as ever. Anwen's such a good girl, usually painting in her spare time.

Amelia's more of a troublemaker and likes boobytrapping the sofa with whoopee cushions.

But with a face like that, who wouldn't forgive her? I'm probably not the best person to ask, mind, as I've never been caught by one. Nick, who's usually the victim, hasn't yet forgiven her and the language he uses to describe her and her pranks probably isn't publishable.

But all too soon it was time for them to become teenagers. This is the part of childrearing I was dreading.

First it was Anwen blowing out the candles.

She ran to the mirror to sort out her hair and outfits. The outfit she aged up with wasn't flattering, no, but it really wasn't bad enough to justify her burning all the pictures. However, these ones have been deemed suitable to be put in our book.

Then, it was Amelia's turn.

Also not a flattering hairstyle, but she was less worried about the picture being seen.

Much better.

Anwen's taken up scupting, and Amelia writing, in addition to their painting. They both took up after school classes, Anwen in Art Club and Amelia with the school newspaper.

And somehow I agreed to teach Anwen to drive. She's calling me now, but I want to find my helmet first...

In trepidation,

Rhi xx

Looking at the way my house is set up, it's going to be eight all the way until the end now! At least once most of them are immortals I can put them on the swings all day and forget about them. Swings and trampolines are becoming some of my favourite things in the Sims!

Chapter 16 -

It turned out that teaching Anwen to drive wasn't all that scary. Amelia was a different matter entirely. First Mum tried to teach her...

...but she got out about three feet down the road and Rhea had to try instead. That went a little better, although apparently she was still hanging on the whole time.

Their teen years went fast. It was surprisingly a lot easier than I'd thought. They mostly spent their time working on their skills and playing video games.

Dad still visits from time to time. Here he is practising architectural design.

The girls went to prom. For Anwen it was a disaster; she got into a fight (which, apparently, wasn't her fault), saw someone wearing the same dress, and got rejected for a dance twice. Amelia seemed to have a great time, coming home with a girlfriend and being elected prom queen. She did, however, go on her bike rather than in the limo we'd booked.

And then they had an awards ceremony at school, to each receive a trophy for participation in their afterschool clubs.

Nicklaus aged up to elder that evening. He doesn't seem to mind getting older, he says it's inevitable. I haven't told him about the immortality thing.

Of course, I still love him.

The next birthdays in our house were those of Anwen and Amelia. It's all birthdays round here at the moment. Nick hadn't wanted any fuss, but we did cakes with the girls.

Anwen went first, as usual.

And then Amelia.

And finally, I reached level 10 in my career. Now, I'm just waiting on my elder birthday and finishing making my six best friends. Soon I'll be immortal. I don't think I've ever been more scared in my life. It's one thing knowing in your head that you can live forever, and it's completely another doing it in reality. I've already lost Dad, and I'll be losing my sisters, and Nicklaus, and Amelia, and all the future members of our family who aren't the firstborn girl. I've committed Anwen to losing everyone, too, and I haven't even told her yet.

Rhiannon x

Chapter 17 - Love and Immortality

Now they're young adults, Anwen and Amelia had to choose a career. Anwen decided she wanted to become a stylist, and Amelia joined the writer career.

Anwen's been having a "friend" around to visit a lot. His name's Derick, but he's known to everyone as Ricky. She says it's just friendship, but everyone knows it's a little bit more than that. For one thing, it's exactly how I was acting when I started seeing Nick. And two, I saw them kissing in the studio. Before long, he was moving in. We gave him a bit of a clean-up in the mirror and a new wardrobe.

The only problem was, he had a boyfriend. He says he's been trying to end it for some weeks now. His boyfriend, Donnie, is mean-spirited, grumpy and a loner and it's clear their relationship wasn't going too well even before he met Anwen. Ricky invited Donnie over and broke up with him on the front lawn. This wasn't probably the most tackful thing to do, looking back, but I suppose he was doing the right thing. I hope him and Anwen are happy together.

With all the artists in the house, the studio is always full. It's quite a funny sight to see everyone painting in their underpants in the mornings. Much as I love fishing, I don't think I'd ever be that attached to it to want to go without even getting dressed first!

Rhea and Danette are still together, too. They've been together since the first few days of high school, and it's lovely.

Anyway. Enough of the sappy love-themed section. Time for more birthdays. Mine, Rhea and Rhoslyn's elder birthdays. I had my cake first, as I had done for all our other birthdays.

Well, it's not a bad hairstyle, but I quickly dyed it back brown. I wasn't going to go through eternal life looking like I was old! (I think Anwen's style-conciousness is rubbing off on me.)

Then it was Rhea's turn. She dyed her hair back too. She said she'd never be able to go back to work with grey hair.

And lastly, Rhosyln. She's the only one of us who's kept her grey hair. As she's still convinced that birthdays are a conspiracy, she's probably not even noticed it.

Ricky seems to find the idea of us getting old very funny. Yeah, you'll be an elder one day mate.

And then, after a little bit of time spent with Elissa Naquin to get her up to best friend status and posing for my portrait and scupture, it was time. I waited out in the garden while Mum prepared us two plates of Ambrosia. She'd described what it felt like and what to expect, so I was prepared in that sense. But could I ever be prepared for eternal life? I decided it was best not to think about it. I'd agreed years ago to help Mum return home, and I couldn't let myself get cold feet now. And so, with Mum watching, I took my first bites of Ambrosia. I felt light run through me, as if I was about to be raised up off the bench I was sat on. And then, just as quickly, it was gone. I felt no different to what I had before, and yet I felt completely different. I was immortal.

Congrats on the second Immortal! Good luck with the fashion phenom - I'd be sorely tempted to make everyone look really bad just for laughs. Then I'd hat it since I'd have to look at them around town.

Chapter 18 - Anwen's Wedding

Hello. My name is Anwen.

This feels weird.

I'm here to explain what's going on with my family, I guess. Mum's told me the deal now. The first born of each generation has the ability to become immortal, provided we complete certain tasks. They're not easy tasks either. And if we succeed, we're only halfway there. That's when we get the chance to challenge Grandma's sister and attempt to get Grandma back home. Yeah, I said "chance" and "attempt". I told you this wasn't easy.

Luckily, though, I've already started work on my requirements before I even knew of the need to complete them. I'm skilled at sculpting, and I work as a stylist. As an artistic, savvy sculptor it shouldn't take me long to achieve either mastery over sculpting or my lifetime wish of becoming a fashion phenonemon. I'm friendly and charismatic, so making friends isn't difficult for me. And I hate the outdoors, so it's not like I get distracted by going and playing on the swings or trampoline like everyone else in my family seems to. And I have Ricky, who wants children, so providing a heir shouldn't be a problem

In fact, my only problem with this whole immortality scheme is, well, the immortality bit. Do I want to live forever?

Still. Anyway. It's also now my job to write down what's going on around here. So here goes.

Ricky had his adult birthday. Everyone else was out, so he celebrated by himself in the back garden.

He had a mid-life crisis and decided to get fit. It didn't go quite as well as he'd hoped, I don't think. He should probably have got Aunt Rhea to train him on how to use that thing.

He went back to sculpting. I think that's safer. And more fun.

See, I told you everyone was obsessed by the swings. It's actually only me and Mimi that aren't (and we're the youngest ones around here).

Aunt Rhoslyn achieved her lifetime wish of maxing out three skills when she finished learning guitar. At three in the morning. Nocturnal elderly people are weird.

And... Ricky proposed! (I said yes, of course. I'd been hoping he would for aaages.)

The wedding was a fairly quiet affair in the back garden.

I wish the photographer hadn't taken this one. What kind of face am I pulling?!?

The proud mother and grandmother of the bride.

Latisha Casper's started on the booze already, I see.

Cutting the cake...

...and the inevitable pathing issues as everyone stupidly tries to grab a piece at the same time.

And then the dancing. Can't have a wedding without your relatives showing off their embarrassing moves.

Ricky and I left them to it and went upstairs for a little "alone time".

@lvrugger - I've also been quite tempted with that. I think if it wasn't my dynasty I might have done, too, but I've got no idea how long this is going to take to max so Anwen's had to behave herself on the makeovers. Some of the outfits the townies wear are truly odd. I've found several who wear the hospital gowns as everyday wear.

Chapter 19 - Rest in Peace

So. Dad died. Nobody was there with him, he walked out of work on Tuesday and stopped to talk to Latisha Casper. The next he knows, the Grim is next to him and he's gone. He was 95, so he'd lived a decent life. But it was a shock. He'd been fine that morning.

And if that wasn't a bad enough week already, Aunt Rhoslyn died on the Friday. She was only 89. Her and Grandma Eleri were outside talking on the patio when she started floating upwards.

I went to find Mum. I wanted to shout at her, to tell her where to put her immortality. I wanted to ask her how she thought I would cope with watching everyone else die. I wanted to tell her I'd quit.

But she was distraught. Worse than any of us. She'd lost her dad, her husband and then her sister. She knew it wasn't long before Rhea would go too. I couldn't shout at her, not now. Instead I burst into tears.

She told me that she'd wanted to become mortal when Dad had died. She'd been thinking the same now Rhos was gone too. But we'd made our decision, she said. And we had to stick by it to make Dad's, and Rhoslyn's, and Grandad Billy's contributions worth something. She was right, I think. But I decided then that we had to tell Rhea, Ricky and Mimi what the situation was, and that we had to tell the future generations earlier. If we were going to do this, we had to do it truly together, not relying on everyone else to work for our goals without mentioning what they are. Mum agreed. It was more practical too she said, as Grandma Eleri was already the subject of gossip in the town for how long she'd lived.

Mum told Aunt Rhea. Apparently she'd suspected something like this for a while. She'd found the remains of some Ambrosia and seemed to know much more of the lore of immortality and witches than even Grandma Eleri did. It seems our task when we get our eight immortals might be even harder than we think. Ricky didn't believe me at first, but Grandma Eleri managed to explain it far better. He took it well, I think. Mimi took it hardest. She went off for a day and a half after we'd told her. We weren't sure she was coming back. But she did, and she said she was willing to help us.

Last night we were sat in the living room together. We hadn't had any time as friends for a while, we'd both been too wrapped up in our own lives. She told me what she'd been doing when she'd ran off. Apparently, she'd been to see Roland Christian, who she's having a bit of a fling with. I'm glad she's happy, and I think it's going well.

Most of the time.

We both kept having to run to the toilet to throw up though. I think it must have been something we ate.

alex: nooboos in the next update!

Also, for lvrugger:

Not intentional, but possibly the worst makeover ever. I saw her walking around town like it the day afterwards too.
