Read through the whole story and I loved it! You're a great writer, probably as good as Seren. Can't wait for the end.

Awesome! Can't wait to see what happens next.  ;D

Thanks, both of you! I was hoping to get the last update up by a few days ago, actually, but every time I try to open the Afon's file my game crashes to desktop :( I suppose at least it's happening now rather than when I was completing the challenge, but still. I'm going to try and get the last update up tonight with whatever pictures I can get.

And The Happily Ever After

It ends with me, Eleri. I'd completed the tasks I needed to do to go home, and seven daughters had, too. As soon as Taryn ate the Ambrosia I felt my powers begin to return. Little things at first, the increased perception of a witch, the quicker leaps of logic. However, I couldn't tell my daughters yet, there were things to be done first.

They drank the potions of youth that Gwenlyn created from an old recipe, and started their final task. And when they were complete, it was time to go home.

We dragged everything out to the henge. The stones were there for a reason - it was by far the place with the biggest magical pull in Riverview.

Rhiannon's fish, to represent the nature and our involvement in the human world.

Anwen's sculptures and paintings, to anchor us and as a physical representation of our power.

Megan's physical prowess, the fighting and powerful spirit of a witch.

Gwenlyn's potions, combining her magical powers with human logic to make something separate from both yet more powerful than either.

Adlais' music, a spiritual pull back to our homeland.

Seren's books, knowledge of our journey and of our requirements.

Taryn's skill with handiness and repair, building us the bridges back home.

And my Ambrosia, life and death mixed together on a plate, at times sweet, at times bitter, at times a strange mixture of the two.

---

"Are you sure this is safe?" asked Rhiannon, eyeing the time machine.

"Come on, yes!" Anwen jumped into it first, giving Rhiannon the courage to follow. Adlais, Gwenlyn and more reluctantly Seren followed, each with a soft whoosh from the machine as it whisked them away.

We heard a laugh from behind us.

Ifanna.

"You know how to make an entrance, don't you, little sister?"

"You think you've won now, don't you?" she said, ignoring my question.

"Megan, get into the time machine!" shouted Taryn, running over towards me. Ifanna had positioned herself in between the time machine and where I had been standing.

"You know blocking me off won't work," I said. "We've got more power than you..."

But before I could finish my sentence, Taryn had stepped in.

"Come on Grandma Eleri!" She dragged me into the time machine after her, and the last I saw of Riverview was my sister running after me until the doors clanged shut and we were leaving. I thought of Billy as we were leaving. I hoped the graves Megan had stowed in the machine earlier would transfer well enough, and that the witch-magic Gwenlyn had discovered would indeed work on them. And, perhaps more importantly, that our husbands wouldn't mind the culture-shock.

---

We emerged from the time-stream into a wooded glade.

"Grandma Eleri?" asked Taryn. "Is this it? Where are the others? Mum, and Grandma Adlais, and everyone else?"

"Not quite," I replied. "The others have gone back, but I've got something I need to do first.

"What happened to your sister?"

"She'll probably try and use the time machine to get back. She isn't easy to defeat. But you've got stronger powers than her, by far, and unwittingly I think you'll find you've put a charm on it that won't let unauthorised hands use it. I've got no idea what it'll do to her, but it won't let her through."

"How can I use magic, if I don't know about it?"

"Quite easily," I smiled. "The sort of magic where you wave wands, shout incantations and put rat's tails into cauldrons is just storybook magic. Real magic is more about intention. You didn't want her to get after us when you rigged the time machine up, and so she won't."

"But, I've not even been trained. I only got these powers yesterday!"

"Now that I don't understand either. We've done a powerful ritual to even get us these powers back, maybe it's that. But you're an incredibly strong witch, Taryn, stronger than I've seen before. But, anyway, we need to get back."

I took the second book Seren had written from my pocket and placed it on the ground. Back where I'd found it. I'd suspected since the early days that only a witch could have understood the trials I'd face and what I'd need to do to regain my powers, but it was only much more recently that I'd realised I was guiding myself through it, that all the knowledge imparted in the book of rules I'd found was my own. That the book had been left there precisely for me to come across it, seconds before I would arrive. The first book remained tucked in my pocket. The detailed story would form the basis of folk tales back in the clan for years, and there were some things that you don't need your past self to know.

Yes, it was time to go home.

And that's the end, folks. Thank you, everyone who read, commented on and supported the Afon's story!

Fabulous ending! You might want to fix the very last picture though since it is only the url link right now.
If at first you don't succeed, call it version 1.0.

Did you have any aging problems with the IF's?

Nope, luckily I didn't have any problems with them. All heirs from gen 5 onwards had the IF gene and the first IF breeding was gen 3 to get gen 4's spouse. Gen 5's spouse was also an IF. Though I might not have done it had I known about the glitches, I only realised they tended to glitch after I'd got to about generation 7.

Not sure if this message will reach you, as it says no-one has replied for 60 days. (A message came up, advicing a new thread, which I did not dare to do.) I'm hoping for the chance to say how much I loved your story as well as congratulate you on completing the challenge. :)

Mmm, I just read it all in one go as well! Very nice to see an Immortal Dynasty with such an involved backstory, and I liked your big finish. Thanks for sharing it!
