Strange bleeding of lots
« on: November 20, 2011, 02:48:07 AM »
I'm doing some testing of things for the Edit Town info and I've had a strange occurrence and wondered if anyone else had had something similar.

I've deleted every block from Sunset Valley and am in the process of rebuilding the town but I'm getting this strange 'bleeding' of the grass out onto the road.
It's quite strange because from one angle, its quite obvious and seems to be moving back and forth in a jerky motion, then you move the camera angle and it either disappears or moves across the road even further.
It's even visible in live mode.
The block in this photo has had all the old lots removed and hasn't had any new lots placed yet, but even where I had put a new lot down, it's still happening.

It could simply be some kind of visual distortion. Have you tried saving, going back to main menu and reloading?

Otherwise, it's rather bad news.

I've seen that once before, but only in one section (incidentally I was also making an empty SSV). Have you tried deleting the caches? I'm guessing probably yes, since you're a fairly experienced player. If that doesn't work, I could make you an empty SSV in CAW.

Caches are clear and I've even shut down the game and gone back in. They are still there though. I'll probably just wipe that file and start afresh and see what happens.
Thanks for the offer Chuckles, but for what I'm doing, it wouldn't work. Most of what I'm doing, I've done before, but I'm doing an article  and I just need to do things as I write so I know what order things get done and what happens when you do it.

I've actually seen this problem in a couple of other threads.  I think Fez did one and someone else did another one.  I think the only fix that I've seen was to go ahead and place a lot down to see if it fixes itself.

This happens to me on that road with the empty lots (Pinochle Point?)
It's getting so annoying that I'm starting to not build there anymore.  :(

Hey guys I'm taking an extended hiatus... again. I'm out of ideas to build houses and I don't have as much fun designing homes like I used to; it feels more like a chore. So that's where I'll be, I will probably be back sometime. :P

I think this has something to do with CAW, theres some kind of tool that seems to affect roads somehow in CAW and it always seems to be the same places. I've had those funny 'bleedings' as well at the same locations mentioned. I suspect it's something to do with the surface under the road not being flat or something.

I have never used CAW, and that has happened to me. I just killed the save, hasn't happened since.

I have this happen in my games (one in SV and one in Riverview). Haven't found a fix for it either, placing a new lot or building doesn't make it go away. Same with reloading the game, clearing caches & whatnot. I just try to live with it. And yeah, I've never even seen CAW.
I've played with those games for quite a while since the glicthing started, and it never fixed and always stays in the exact same space, so I guess it's permanent. So my guess is there's no other fix than start a new file like I guess you did.

Another thing that happens in my games: If I delete houses and replace them with new ones, when I go to map view, it still shows the old contents of the map. Only when I zoom in it finally loads the actual contents of the lot. I wonder if this is connected to the other graphic glitch (it's not the same lots tho). This one also seems unfixable; I've had a consignment store which in Map view looks like a small starter house for several weeks now. They have right icons but look like the original map. A bit annoying...

I think Samoth was thinking about how worlds are done in CAW, not to whether or not the player uses CAW. Placing/moving lot in CAW is always a bit tricky regarding the impact on the ground level and its distortion. I agree with him, it's probably what's happened here.

I've had this happen with me, always and only at the Pinochle Pond lots, most disturbingly at Sunset Valley 3.0. The only way I know so far of fixing it is getting a new town.

If you ever find a real solution to it, please let me know.

There is a glitch in CAW that if you adjust terrain after placing Lots then this sort of stuff happens. Also it could be that the ground beneath the road and lot are now even or something and a glitch causes the road to go straight or something. Since it happens a lot in the same spot for various people I'm assuming EA did something in whatever World Builder they use that caused this. Not whether the player used CAW.  :)

I've only just now had it happen to me. :( It happened in the area that's across the street from the Hospital in the SV world. I'm going to try out what thesimslover828 did and just kill the save game. That should fix the issue... EA should release more bug fixes for this game as I and many others still get the input, build and buy mode lag as well as game freezing. :|

So, a REAL bug fix patch would help out a lot instead of one that only fixes a few things and breaks other things. :|
