Infinity Pools, and emptying a Pool of Water?
« on: November 19, 2011, 11:15:45 PM »
I've just come back from a stay in the Karikari Peninsula in New Zealand, and I saw something I now really want to build in The Sims. An Infinity Pool.
A quick search brought this up:

Behold! The infinity pool! :D

As you can see in order to create the pool, I raised the terrain and then built the pool all the way on the edge. The blank part of the wall is where the elevator is. I'm thinking or making it pop with some wall color almost like a mural. I'm not sure yet.

But that's unfortunately not what I'm after. I'm after something like this:

Which has a sort of half pool behind the drop. It's a drop, and then about halfway down the height, there is a pool that's about half the height of a regular pool. Can somebody tell me how to make this, if it's indeed possible?

And my second question: I have read somewhere that somebody emptied a pool, and then converted it into a basement. I cannot find a tutorial for this: Is it possible, and if so, how do I do it?
Thanks for answering!

The only thing I can think of is how to builds pool inside a basement, which now have to be taken quite latterly: you first build the basement, and than the pool over it. I don't know in how far this can help you out with experimenting.

I know exactly what you mean, what you have in mind of the Pool ending and then going straight down, that isn't possible, at least I don't think it is, I shall try and see if I can manage it though as I have an idea of how to do it but it's complicated for what I have in mind. I know how to make an Infinity Pool which is more effective than the one Shenice made but as for the layered pools I don't know.

I have an idea what they mean by emptying the pool but I don't think it's actually possible.

Would this be possible by sloping the front of the lot up a story and then building one pool on the "first floor" and putting windows on the edge and then building the second pool on the "ground level"? That's the closest I can think of visually.

I mean since late night gave us the ability to put pools on multiple floors that is.

That's sort of the idea I was thinking over. I'm starting my game up now to have a go.

I've managed to make one! IT has 3 Pool Levels but I assume you can do 4. There is a visual glitch with the bottom pool but you can't fix it easily. The whole thing is very complicated and I don't have time to explain it now. I have not tested it yet to see if it even works, although I suspect that the top pool won't work because it's shallow (Nothing you can do about that), I think the Middle and bottom pool should work though. Of course it isn't perfect but it is pretty darn cool.  :D I messed around with my version so I'll do a revised effort to make the steps clearer and simpler and then do a picture guide for you.

EDIT: Is this what you had in mind Seabody? Yeah I know, once I start building I can't stop and I end up with a house attached to an experimental pool...  ;D

Amazing Samoht! If I take a look at it quit it look likes a waterfall. The whole concept looks extremely difficult and complicated.

You could probably make it look like a Waterfall, add small rocks along the top, add the Fog Emmiter etc. It might be harder for someone who doesn't have as much experience as I do with the constrainfloorelevation cheat and placeFriezes because I have been using them a lot lately and I've come to realise that these two are essential for a modern build really. Also for a raised house like the one in the picture. By the way the house came after the pool, I wouldn't recommend adding a Pool like this to an existing House unless you had a lot of room spare.

I did something like this on my beach house competition build. The pool had two levels - but it wasn't easy to see from the picture - In that one I was mostly capturing the windowed side. It's a LOT of messing around with CFE but in the end I managed it.

Yeah, that's what I had in mind. Maybe slightly different, but that's probably cosmetic things, like blue instead of brown. Thanks. :)

I am not aware of a cheat called PlaceFriezes. What does it do?

It came with Ambitions and allows you to place a foundation above ground. The context is "placefriezes on|off". The friezes are about 1/3 of the height of a wall.
It's useful for builders, and features in many homes in Twinbrook.

Also imagine it like a foundation that can be placed on a foundation. I used it in my picture and currently I think it's vital for the Infinity Pools.

Lilygirl has explained the PlaceFriezes cheat in a tutorial here.
