Green babies and genetics
« on: November 15, 2011, 02:50:45 AM »
I downloaded Hidden Springs at the weekend, and as those who have it know, some of the townsfolk have a pale green skin tone.  Assuming a white skin toned sim has a baby with one of the green skinned folk, does anyone know what influences the skin tone of the child?

Specifically, is it purely random?
Do grandparent genetics play a part.
Do green females always have green female babies, whilst their baby boys from a white father will be white? (I read someone hypothesise this to be the case elsewhere).

Reason I ask is research for a story I have in mind :).

Also I can only find two male green sims (the pizza delivery boy and the old man living out in the woods), does anyone know of any more?

Thanks for any answers.

I believe its a 50-50 chance on skin tone, I don't think the sex of the parent matters (green mom could have green boy), there is only one green man in hidden valley (never ordered pizza myself, didn't know about the pizza boy, I think that was just luck based on you needing a random to deliver pizza and the game randomized a sim out of all the sims in the game, if that made sense).

I know if you mix a green person with a dark skinned person you may be able to darken the skin tone (instead of the very light green) since the game bases the skin tone on two things, the color, and intensity (so the green people are green(color) and light(intensity) and mix them with a black person the black (color) and dark (intensity) might get you a green(color) and dark (intensity), if that made sense)

hope that helps (or made sense... its 5:00am where I am, and I've just woken up. :D)

:)

I am not really sure what the odds are for having a green baby. In one of my games the green skinned mum had six children and five were green. In my Rohen decadynasty the green skinned mum has two children both are green.
Besides the pizza boy there is a green skinned repair man in Hidden Springs. He is there at the beginning of the game.
The only thing I have noticed in my games is that the offspring of the green Hidden Springs Sims are usually a darker tone of green then their parents.
Just so you know if a green skinned parent has a normal coloured baby then that baby cannot have any green children. Once that green is gone it is gone for good.

Thanks for the replies.  I was hoping it would be random, would have spoilt my game a bit if it wasn't.

I've seen the pizza boy confirmed as being fixed at game start elsewhere, so he's not random, but I didn't know about the repairman, so I'll have to check him out and compare.  I invited the pizza boy to move in - boy did he take some persuading.  He comes with zero traits so I have been saving up the 20k points to give him a midlife crisis! (I know I could cheat to add traits to him, but where's the fun in that) :).

Don't know if this helps your story at all but you know that you can create green sims in CAS right? So if need be you could always create a green male and slap him into the town somewhere for your sim to meet or something?

That might defeat the purpose of having the natural green Sims from Hidden Springs reproduce for green Sims.

Yep that wouldn't work for my story.  My sim needs to marry one of the fairy folk and keep the fairy bloodline alive!

The repairman doesn't come with any traits either.  Just so you know.  He has a reddish beard and huge ears. His name is Tomas Belucci
