Trouble Having Mixed-Gendered Twins?
« on: November 14, 2011, 03:01:45 PM »
My sim and her doctor husband got pregnant. I had the doctor determine the gender, and he said girl. I sent her to the grocery store to buy 15 apples, and eat them. She then went home, and asked the huband to determine gender, as I wanted mix-gendered triplets. The husband then said a girl again. Am I Missing something? This has happened before...

You did everything right except you don't need to know the gender twice. The doctor won't say a girl and boy.

Yeah, but I wanted mixed-gendered triplets, and that's what it says on the guide.

You put twins in the subject line.   Also - there is a possibility that the game needs time to think.  I was going for a specific sex in one of my games and I had just eaten a bunch of watermelons but when I visited the doctor it told me that I was having a boy.  Went back to before that and waited a couple of sim hours while making sure to eat a lot and it finally gave me the girl I wanted.

Actually, EA removed the "cheats" for deciding what gender your baby will be, in an update quite some time ago. The trick with eating different fruits to decide the baby's gender was removed.

Welcome to our Forum.

I really have to question this.  I've never heard this rumor and I've always had 100% success in determining the gender of my Sim's baby any time I want to.  Do you have something to back this up?

You should change the subject line if you mean triplets and not twins.  As far as the game goes, your Sim may not have been having triplets in the first place.  What were the results of the birth?

Thank you :) I'm so glad I found this place, you really have a great site!
Actually, the information about the fruit-trick being removed was stated in one of the updates from EA. When you make an update, you can read the exact changes that it includes, and so that's were I got my information. I will try and see if I can find it again and I will let you know the official source. I haven't myself even tried to use the fruit-trick since I got information that it was taken away, so I don't know for sure that it doesn't work, I just took EA's word for it.

The sure fire way of having mixed gender multiple births is, find out the sex of the baby by a doctor, if it is a girl, then eat nothing but apples and watch the kids tv and listen to kids radio.  Pretty much for me it has been 100% accurate and have had mixed gender babies everytime. :)

I have read all of the updates and have not run across anything that said that said the fruit didn't work anymore, but if you could find it, it would be helpful. :)

Ok, found it! Though I may have misunderstood it.. here is what it says, under update 1.3 (07/27/09):

"Eating specific prepared meals no longer has an impact on an unborn baby's gender."

Source: http://www.thesims3.com/game/patches/-1926857733

Maybe I got it wrong? Perhaps some meals had an unintended impact on the babies gender, and that was removed, not the fruit-trick.. ???

I may be wrong but I think it means if you want a boy and your sim have eat apples, eating pancacks with watermelon won't cause you to have a girl.

I think you're right! Now I don't have to go back in my game all the time untill I get the specific gender I'm looking for. I can't believe I didn't at least try the fruit-thing after I read that update.. but it was two years ago, I must have been young and naive   ;)

Are you allowed to use that "cheat" when playing a dynasty, seeing how the last firstborn is supposed to be a girl?

I don't play dynasty's I will ne very bad at it, but I read almost all of the stories on the forum and they use the fruit. I don't think it is cheating.

hehe I agree, I just found out yesterday what dynastys are, never heard of it before! I've just been playing all by my lonesome, so it was fun to find this forum and see how much you can do with the game in turns of challenges, remodeling worlds etc.. Inspiring!

Ok, I remember that update about prepared meals not doing anything for the gender.  That was apparently a glitch when the game first came out.  Your Sim has to eat the raw fruit to get the desired gender, not have it in a meal.  As for using this trick in the Dynasties, it's perfectly fine.  It's not actually a cheat because the cheats panel isn't used.  It's part of normal game play.

Sorry if I'm going off topic, but how many apples/watermelons does your sim eat to get the gender you want? Sometimes, when my sim eats watermelons I still get a boy.
