Question about jumping/racing tracks
« on: November 08, 2011, 03:18:48 AM »
How does one link racing and jumping tracks together to make a course? Or, if there are many jumping/racing items in one area, will it automatically deem that specific set of items as a course?

I'm trying to make a horse ranch, and I've no idea how to do this part. Please help!

I had the same problem of not knowing how to link the jumps. The trick with them, is they have to be the same level,, ie you can't link one of the beginner jumps to an advanced jump. Can't quite remember how to actually link them, but if you go to the in-game lessons it tells you (and makes sense once you realize about the different skill levels) Not sure about the racing track though.

With the racing track the key is using the poles at the bends.  If you make an oval track you need 4 sets of poles, one on each bend, to get the horses to run round.

The jumps show in the highlighted space while placing them. Once you have one set, grab another and hover it near the first. It will show you a yellow bar a distance in front and behind the first jump. Just basically hover as close as possible to the yellow bar and it should kind of snap into place? Continue with more just the same.    For mine I did 2 lines of jumps, side by side but one line facing forward and the other facing back, and most often the horses turned the corner themselves to continue.

Yep, with the jumps the key is the check the direction of the arrows.  You want one line of jumps facing one direction and the other line the opposite way.  I leave 3 block spaces between the two lines and my horses will then train using both lines of jumps.

Cross-country racing involves both racing and jumping...so is it possible to incorporate jumps in conjunction with racing posts?

Thank you all for the help! I'm still slightly confused on the racing track though. Is it the more racing posts the better, or is it the fewer better? I can try and take a picture of my race track so far, but I'm not sure if it's good enough.

Lunaura   racing posts you need 4 for a oval track.  1 on each corner/bend.

Hosfac  I haven't tried mixing them, but you can certainly leave a bigger gap between the jumps. The question will be whether the horses still run round as if it's a track, or whether you would need to fence the track in to stop them exiting sideways? I can't answer this any better, sorry.  I bet Mary could once she's back.

I beleive the whole crosscountry is just something you can only do in the competitions, you cannot make a course for it as it isn't its own skill set like racing and jumping is.

Racing posts made simple. :)

If you have two posts, the horse will run relays between the two.

If you have four posts, the horse will run in a circular manner between the four.

For instance, if you want a race track, you need four, one at each corner.

However, if you're going to do something like barrel racing, you would only need two with some fun obstacles like hay bales in the path between the two.

You can see how I did my race track with jumps below:

I'm doing a new ranch at the moment to do the Ark Builder LTW.  This one will be much more 'western' in flavour rather than 'english'.  I'll post a picture of the barrel racing training area after I'm done.

And here's a simple relay race setup:

My race setup, going counter clockwise, following the dirt path:

Please let me know if this would work, or you think it would. I've not play tested it yet, since I'm building my barn in Edit Town mode for now.

I'm not sure.  I haven't used that many gates before. :)  Keep building and you'll find out when you get a horse on the track to see if they path the way you want.  Interesting setup though.
