Trouble with Lights Coming On
« on: November 06, 2011, 08:44:15 PM »
Has anyone else had trouble with lights in houses. I've been digging out some of my older builds that are on the exchange to list here on the Swap Shop. Even though I tested these houses when I first built them, I've been installing them into new games and moving someone in to test things and make sure everything is fine.
What I've discovered is that my lights are not coming on. Usually, I've found that when you build a house, lights that are installed are set to auto by default and the colour is set to white. Seems when a sim enters these older houses (I think it's just the older houses), the lights are not coming on. I click auto lights and set all lights and still nothing, but if I set the colour to white, suddenly all the lights come on. It's as if the lights are all set to a different colour that doesn't show up.
The trouble is, light setup is not something you can do in build mode, you have to have a sim set them, so I can't correct the problem before sharing, because that would mean moving a sim in.

I had noticed something like that too.  I would notice a sim in a room with the moodlet, "dark in here".  For some reason, the lights quit coming on in some rooms.  I can turn them on maually, but then they stay on, whether the sim is in the room or not.  It doesn't happen very often, but it is even in newer homes too. My sister was having the same problem.  Deleting them and putting new ones in does not work either.  At least it doesn't happen all of the time, but it can be annoying. :)

Actually, I think you can set the color in buy mode.  You can't turn them on but I know you can set the color by control + shift + clicking or shift + clicking.  I can't remember which one but it's the one you use to set up bouncer ropes, too.  A lot of times when I have to toggle a room on and off, I turn them all on.  I make sure the color is the color I want and once they're on you have to reset them back to auto-lights.

Thanks for that bit of info Ricalynn, I just uploaded another older build with a note about the lights. The next one I do, I'll play around with the lights beforehand.
thanks

It's control + shift +click and you can turn lights on and off in build mode. Yay, thanks again for this.
