Why can't you start your game anymore? Does it say something when you try to?

How much RAM memory do you have in your computer? How much free HD space?

It says: service initialization failed sims 3 0x0175dcbb
I've got 4GB RAM, Vista, Dual Core CPU and 256DDR 2 GPU. I think I'll need to reinstall the game QQ

You can try going one day back in your computer's restoration points and see if that allows you to open the game again.

When it works again, you should see if moving your family to a new neighborhood (can be the same, just a fresh one) doesn't fix your issue.

My game does the same thing. I noticed it happens more often the farther in my savegame I get. If I just start a game with one sim, no problems. When I have been playing for a while, or starting with several sims... it happens more and more often.

Not too sure why though...

I had this problem and basically it was due to a bunch of unnecessary files on my computer. If the game freezes and trying all the fixes for freezing game haven't fixed this problem then I would go back to basics.

I mean uninstalling all the unnecessary games and things that you no longer use but may run in the background, then running a good registry cleaner. Once that has been done do a scan disk, then a disk clean-up, restart your computer then run a defrag.

Most problem with slow running games have little to do with the game itself but more to do with the background programs and files eating up your system resources.

A good clean-up of your system should be performed once a month. Although ideally you should defrag each time you add or remove a program to piece back together the displaced files.

I hope that this help you.

Kindest Regards
KJ

Nothing helps. I've reinstalled Generations and applied the newest patch. I think it's time for a full reinstall. I just hope it won't mess up during the process.

What do you mean by addons?

Also - you don't happen to use the generations lava lamps do you? it's an odd question but I found a random thread somewhere else.  Someone said over there that because they were using the lava lamps - something about the changing of the globs that if she played for too long it would start pausing the game for 10 seconds or so to change the color.   A lot of other people just said it depends on how long you've been playing like I think Salty said.

No lava lamps. I've got a date with reinstalling Sims all over again.

Sometimes it is necessary to uninstall and re-install from the beginning. A lot of players will do that with each EP or SP as routine. Just ensure that you run defrag after re-installing.

Blaming EA isn't recommended however, it doesn't accomplish anything they do their best to ensure that their games are compatible with a wide variety of hardware and system configurations and it would be impossible to account for every problem that could ever happens. If you're finding that all the fixes that have been suggested to you are not working then attempting to contact EA support would be a viable option, I have only heard good things about EA support.

Nothing helps. I've reinstalled Generations and applied the newest patch. I think it's time for a full reinstall. I just hope it won't mess up during the process. Especially for EA :I hate this company :/ Their Sims products are buggy crap :/ It's frustrating to reinstall a game with 4 add ons :/

None of  us are happy with the bugs and glitches with this game, but this post is borderline "bashing EA" and it is not  tolerated on this forum.  We have all given you suggestions and if those suggestions do not work, then I am not sure what to tell you.  Also, using profanity, even if you bleep it out, is not allowed either.  Please refrain from using that sort of thing in your posts in the future.

I've uninstalled all Sims 3 content. The only thing I had to delete from my registry was the sims folder. Is that it? I haven't found any remains of Install Shield nor any other registry traces of Sims 3. I deleted the content via the Add/Remove Program.

I've just installed. Seems like it's fine because the launcher starts, without any problems. Now all I have to do is find the blasted Ambitions -_-'

Got a question about installing order. It's: core->WA->Hi End->Ambitions. Then all is left are Generations and Night Life. What about the other stuff packs? I mean Outdoor Living and City Life? Where do they come in?

I think the complete order of release is:

 1. Base game
 2. WA
 3. HELS
 4. Ambitions
 5. Fast Lane
 6. Late Night
 7. Outdoor Stuff
 8. Generations
 9. Town Life stuff
10. Pets

Once The base game is installed, you can check this at the bottom left corner of the Launcher screen. There is a list of all the small icons of the various disks.

Hey, only just seen this topic. Had a quick scan through replies to see if anyone has come up with what I would like to suggest.

When it freezes, is it just the sims themselves freezing, by this i mean, can you still see the green thing above their head going round, or the musical notes on a radio moving, or the "zzz" when a sim sleeps?

If this is the case, I had the same thing and googled it. It seems it is caused by a sim being stuck somewhere in the world. I know my pets have been getting stuck frequently. The suggestion was to reset all the sims in the world using the /resetsim * the star meaning all of the sims will be put back, including pets.

If this isn't the problem I would definitely recommend reinstalling, patching after installing each expansion and stuff pack.

Hope I have been of some use

Addict x

That's some useful info, Addict :) When the game freezes nothing disappears. Everything becomes static for 10-15 seconds and then goes back to normal. The green icon above a sim's head is there, the music is on. The whole freezing thing looks like the whole world just "hanged" for a moment. I've reinstalled half of my game so far. If I encounter the problem again I'll try your solution and tell how it went.

I think I found a solution to my game freezing from time to time! Here's a quote from the Hidden Springs topic I found by accident on this Forum: (about Hidden Springs town) "I love this town, yet it is still very buggy (to my game anyways) meaning that every 3 minutes, it freezes for 15 seconds and then continues the game[...]". OMG!! If this is the case then I think it's time to move to an another town QQ Good thing my save is fairly fresh and my sim doesn't have too many friends :)

Do add ons for The Sims encumber the computer more? For example: doest the core game with Generations put more stress on the computer than The Sims with Ambitions, without Generations? I noticed the graphics card of my laptop heats quite a bit while playing The Sims. This might be the reason of my sim freezing. Funny thing: when he freezes everything around still moves.
