I have the Googlepedia add-on in Firefox and sometimes when I do sims related searches it assumes this is what I want to know about:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sims_class_destroyer

 ???

The poor things ended up as targets for atomic bomb testing. :'(

I'm going to name some sims after them.

Wow  :o  They actually had destroyers named "Sims!"  I'll bet EA never had intentions to associate a teens' game after that,  :D

I know this is an old forgotten topic, but Leto asked me to put some names from my homeland to add to the diversity when naming our Sims.

So, I'm from Bosnia, and there we have names from all over the world. So I'm just gonna spawn some of them.

Common female names are:
Aida, Ajla, Amela, Amra, Alma, Amina, Alisa, Adisa, Ema, Ena, Nina, Jasna, Vesna, Ines, Iman, Jasmina, Nermina, Lejla, Sabina, Adrijana, Marina, Marijana, Kristina, Nada, Biljana, Ljiljana, Svjetlana, Helena, Sanela, Lana, Dana, Danijela, Elma, Elvira, Enisa...

Male names:
Alen, Damir, Edin, Marko, Bruno, Bojan, Dejan, Darko, Goran, Zlatan, Zoran, Branimir, Zvonimir, Vladimir, Kresimir, Rusmir, Dalibor, Danijel, Borislav, Adis, Amir, Admir, Emir, Enis, Edvin, Jasenko, Jasmin, Husein, Almir, Admir, Adnan, Davud/David, Ali..

When I made a Roman Villa, I used the name "Tarquinius Superbus". It was the name of a tyrant king of Rome. I also named the same sim in another type "Valerius Brutus".

Sometimes I use the name Mark Anthony, or Marcus Antonius in ancient Roman.

Sometimes I use medieval names, such as "Raymond of Tripoli" (in reality, Count Raymond III, VII'th Count of Tripoli'". Also "Godfrey", "William" etc. are also medieval names which I use.

I also use the name "Argos Alexios", the medieval Byzantine and Greek name.

Other than that, I use modern names. For example, my current sim's name is "Travis Connor".

The most annoying name ever - KATY! I've had up to 10 sims with that name so I go sick of it! The only name that comes to my mind when it says name your female baby is Katy.  Katy Perry, dare you ever release a great song again! Lol. Note: all the Katys had different personalities.
Well, that's your opinion, isn't it? And I'm not about to waste my time trying to change it. - Lady GaGa

Hmm! The phone book never thought of that one, But being visually impaired I can't see it. Maybe that's why.  :D
I used to use a site that had a bunch of names but I lost it, I got to go find it and I'll put it up here.

OK. Didn't find the site but I did find anther one. You have to look around a bit though to find something.

www.namesdir.com
I hope it was OK to put this on here if not I'll take it off.

I just give my sims names I like at that point in time. Like at the moment, I really like the names Jonah, Nathalie*, Islay and Elidh.
*Yes, it is meant to be spelt like that, it's a variation of Natalie. I can't remember who I met with that name though. :P

Anushka, those are beautiful names! I wish I had one of those names, mine is just so common! :)

I really enjoy the naming bit.  I especially like those names that are kind of puns when creating a single sim (e.g. Anne Droid, Donna Kebab, Lauren Order, Mac Kerel).  Rather sadly I have a list that I add to when I think of new ones.

I've also used themes, like colours or fruits or gemstones; taken inspiration from the dog and the cats; or specifically chosen a last name that I can play around with (e.g. the Tree family, whose members included Ash, Hazel, Cherry, etc.)

I received a book for my birthday, about names.  It's absolutely wonderful and has had me laughing out loud.  I think it appeals to my inner child.  It's called 'Potty, Fartwell and Knob' and is a compilation of names taken from Parish registers and censuses going back over many years.  They're all good and true British names but many have fallen out of favour or have different meanings in our modern age (e.g. Piggy Banks - who was born in Dorset in 1810 - and Fancy Baskett from Sussex.)  Some of the names sound very rude.  I haven't yet named any of my sims after any of the people immortalised in the book.  Maybe someday.

There are also lots of name generators out there on the internet for those who get stuck on a name.  The only snag is that you'd have to be able to toggle between the game and the internet when playing - something I can't do as it makes my full screen view go very dark and I dislike playing in windowed mode.  (I was going to link one but there is really no need as loads came up when I searched.)

Jessiethedog, not shore what's your real name, but those are very common names in that area, I know dozens of Aida's and Amela's :D And my name (Ana) is one of the most common names in the world, but not in my homeland ;D It is not always a good thing to have unusual or complicated name too.

As for naming Sims, I didn't wrote anything about it he he. I get stuck each time new baby is born. I do play in window mode (got used to it after a while) so I have access to internet and name generators but I'm not into naming randomly. I like those interesting strange combinations, but also tend to give only few of those I like. Also, I don't like naming Sims after someone since that limits me in a way of trying to recreate someone which I don't want (like creating Albert Einstein, I would rather name a Sim Albert and pretend he is inspired by Einstein, or create Einstein family and pretend they are descents of Albert, than creating Albert Einstein). I also don't like giving names that I'm not shore how to pronounce. But for example, my Eden Garden challenge Sim was Eve Eden, and now it is Leena Bruce for Master challenge=).

I tend to try follow a theme of names with the parents initial,  i.e. George would have boys called Gordon, Geoffrey etc. and sometimes the girls have Dad's initial and the girls mum's so Gloria, Grace,Goldy and so on. It can stretch the mind and I have been driven to an encyclopedia of names which I have, providentially!

Sometimes what I do is use fish, gnomes or teddy bears as name generators. Just keep clicking the "Give name to Deathfish" option until it gives you a nice name or reminds you of one you like.  ;D

Funny how the name generator on The Sims works. It seems every town I play in will quickly generate a Sim called Latasha. Latasha, Latasha, Latasha. Aside from that, I'll often get repeats. The other day I had a family move into town with two brothers who had the exact same name. Y'know, 'cause there were like ten Santiago Pringles at my school.

A lot of times when I name a sim, the name relates somehow to what I intend for that sim to do.  For example:  when I made my sim for the "Bishop takes Headkick" challenge, his name was Grant Masters.  The sim living in the castle I'm building with the castle kit is named King Froedrick I (taken in part from the movie "Young Frankenstein").

But when I don't have a particular theme in mind, sometimes I struggle with names.

With my current game, an evil immortal legacy, I've been using names of easily recognisable villains - Mordred, Morgana, Lucifer, Hel, Vlad - and some less recognisable ones - Anakin, Morgause, Arachne. For the other children (hopefully remaining at 1 twin) I used the name Isabella, taking inspiration from Queen Isabella of Spain (and her lovely spanish inquisition).

Otherwise, I have problems with sims names. I like to have ordinary sounding names for sims, as a contrast to all my RPGs that have heroes called things like "Meia", "Rothellia", "Aslandle", or some such. But ordinary names are so hard to come up with! D:

I mainly use names from my School as names for normal games. I find last names the most difficult though! I have used the names of Five people from a school I have been to in my Dynasty.  ;) (Gabriella, Declan, Eliza, Shannon, Madeline)

Hi, I'm sorry for starting a new topic, but I'm away to play my Sims in Riverview and I can't think of a name for my Sim.  Any suggestions?
Go with the next name you see on TV or in a book. Thats what i do.
