Sim's Name
« on: October 07, 2009, 01:50:40 AM »
Hi, I'm sorry for starting a new topic, but I'm away to play my Sims in Riverview and I can't think of a name for my Sim.  Any suggestions?

I tend to think of celebrities I know, combinations of people's names that i know, and things like that. The name doesn't matter much to me, because I hardly see it when I'm playing. I doubt your experience will be much different. It's mainly going to matter when you intend to make a large family and keep playing them.

No need to apologize for starting a new topic.  That's what we want you to do!  :)

I have a hard time with names, too.  I've found that if I choose some kind of theme, it works out nicely.  Or maybe the name of a celebrity.

I made a gardener recently, I named him Yardo Gardenos.
Might be a strange name, but it was the only thing I could come up with.

I got plenty of names for my legacy challenge though.

Yardo Gardenos! :D :D :D

But yeah, I have this problem too. I sometimes get stuck in create a sim because I just can't think of a name, it's embarrassing. :-[

But you can change the name later at City Hall, right?

True, you can change your Sim's name at City Hall.  Must be at least a Young Adult, though.

I always have trouble coming up with names for my sims.
So, I decided to name them after things much like the red indians have done in the past.
I tried naming in a way that the first letter of their name starts from A and ends at H.
I also tried naming them after colours and of course made their clothes to fit their colours.
I tried naming them after fishes, prefixes like mega giga, after game characters such as Kakeru and stuff like that.

I LOVE naming my sims. I'm kinda addicted to names and name meanings. In fact when I took a break to check out the forum, I was looking up Old Norse names and their meanings.  ::) I tend to like the Irish/Gaelic names so those are the ones I naturally gravitate to. But when it comes to naming my sim I keep their personality in mind (or how I think they'd be). I also take into account how they look. If I can identify them with a certain nationality, I'll pick a pretty or cool name from that place. I made an entire Japanese family once, that was fun.

Also perhaps pick a name from a book you like. I do that often. If I could make my sims short I'd make a Frodo  :P

For my legacy, I knew what the last name would be, Wartooth (if you know where I got that name you're cool in my book), and I also knew the nationailty of the founder, Norwegian, so I just googled the most common Norwegian names for a woman and I found Camilla!

Harald Wartooth (Hildetand), old Danish king? Icelandic sagas?

hehe, wow, PJSim. That's not where *I* got it from....though I bet it's no coincidence that both the place where I got it from and what you mentioned use the same name. I mean, Wartooth isn't actually a common name (I don't think. Never been to Norway or anything) so I bet the creator that created the Wartooth character from which I got the name knew about that old Danish king.

Hope that made some srt of sense. If not, the short answer is no; try again.  ;D

I have been reduced to jotting down names during the credits of TV shows or movies.  :P  I can think of a bunch of great names except when it comes to the lil box that says now to name the baby.  :D

And I don't have a clue who Wartooth really is but it sounds like a really cool name. :D

:D Isn't it though!? I wanted a fun/cool/epic name for my legacy family. And this one suggested to me and I was like YES!

Well, Harald Wartooth would probably be called Harald Hildetand in Norwegian like in Danish, the languages are so similar, and no, I don't think that name is used at all anymore. But I think he is mentioned in several of the old sagas and we still read those.

This is a good thread, I could really use some inspiration for names. I think I've done the thing with TV credits too, pathetic. :D
Now I'm thinking saga names, I really love those old Nordic names, so strong.

Thord, Grettir, Halgerd, Thorolf, Kjartan, Gunløg, Asgeir, Thorkel, Finboge, Røgnvald, Thorgunn... Aah lots of names! ;D
