I usually make sure that's unchecked. But I may have overlooked it since my last factory reset. I'll look to see if I have that enabled.

Yes, you do that! :D
It may be that the game don't even saves those files when it turns out you have indeed unchecked that button.

And that would make sense, because I don't have any in my older sims 3 folders!

So these are the files EA was revering too after asking the gamer if he/she was okey with that EA would collect data from the gameplay?
Otherwise I can't think of any other reason for it's existence.

I don't think so. They can only do that if you're connected to the internet, and I'm barely ever connected while simming (moreso when I got my Strange File). Therefore, I can't see a way for them to be the collection files.
