*Chapter 6-Kitty Cat Talk*
Hello, my name is Dumpling, Dumpling Darling. I'm here to give you today's update.

Now last time....wait...ah.. oh behind the ears!

Sorry about that. As I was saying last time... yawn... you know what let me take a nap first.

There all refreshed. Now where was I.. oh mouse poo!
Well anyway, today is one of the human's birthdays.

I'm not in that picture, I was out hunting. I'm very adventorous you know, and a very good hunter as well.

And then later that week.. wait a minute... NO! AHH! UNHAND ME WOMAN!

This.. is... animal abuse! I do not have fleas, no, no! It's just a misunderstanding! MEOW!
Stupid sims, anyway later in the week it was the human kitten's birthday.

There was a huge party.

But everyone left before it was time for cake. I told those humans they should've had catnip goodie bags!

His traits happen to be: good, neurotic, and he's a vegetarian.
Until next time, mroww!

*Chapter 7-Something Orange, Something New*
Hello, and good day to you! My name is Mandarin, Mandarin Miles.

Do I look very grown up to you? Momma says I'm growing up too fast. Then Daddy said I need to. She gave him this funny look, but that's probably just Momma being Momma.

And I don't think she likes it much when I get up really early to make my own breakfast. She likes it when we eat together as a family. Well that doesn't happen very often ha ha!

And she says I'm really responsible. But I like to be!, I try telling her. She just shakes her head and says it's much too early for that.

But today I'm gonna party! It's Aunt Aggie's birthday. Don't tell her, but she's really old now!

Ouch, that looks like it hurts. I hope she's okay!

I congratulated her on the nice party. She just waved her cane at me, and told me to go away.
I'm hoping that's just age, nobody can be that mean!

We have busy days. My ears ring sometimes from all the hustle and bustle.
Of course, that could always be the stupid alarm and the stupid burglar...

But through it all, I cook.
I cook to eat. I cook to play. I cook to learn. I cook... to LIVE. It is the most amazing thing ever, and finding dishes that don't require the murder of innocent animals makes it all worth while.

And.. OH! Gotta go! The bus is here!!
Until we meet again,
               Mandarin M.

*Chapter 8-Changing Times*
Dumpling's been making friends with the neighborhood cats. Aggie approves of it, but I dunno...

She loves that cat. We all know she's gonna go first, and.... it's going to be a very painful day for all of us.
Agnes has done so much for this family, sacrificed so much.
But on to happier topics!

My dear son has been very busy lately.
Busy with having fun, that is!

First a field trip.

Then another.

Then some imagination.
And then right back to cooking. I think he knows, I think he knows about the dynasty.
Like, not in an explainable way, but  think deep down he knows his destiny. Subconsciously he knows it.

Meanwhile I've been working on dynasty tasks. This man right here is a good friend of mine, and soon he will be my best friend.

Almost everything else is done. I've supermaxed painting, maxed out my career...
So much is done. So much needs to be done.

And now some proof that Agnes pampers the cat. Just look at this!

Creepy...

And too soon, a mother's worse nightmare.

The teenage years!

Oh, I'm sure he'll be fine -- except for almost burning the house down, anyway. But other than that.

He better not!! It's a nice house.  :P
And by the way, this update will be longer than usual. Just wanted to warn you.
*Chapter 9-I Hate This Part Right Here*
His first day as a teenager and he gets arrested.

Agnes was the first to see him at the door, and she just BLEW UP. Something about "responsibilities" and "work".
I think she was hinting at the dynasty. But he doesn't know. I haven't told him. I don't want to tell him. He's too young.

And he's so neurotic he came straight to me for comfort.
I had to play nice, I knew this area of the field was nothing but thin ice.

I told him if he could keep his act together for 2 days, there would be no severe punishment.
Like the good boy he is he agreed.

Angst might have tainted his mind, but it hasn't even touched his heart. He still focuses on his cooking, maybe more so now.

Somedays I don't think he'll ever stop. And the sad thing is, he doesn't have to.
He has all of eternity on his side.

To take the family's minds off of heavy topics, I built us a rec room in the basement.
It has every modern gaming device our pockets could afford. Which, considering us, is a lot.

But where was I. Oh yes, Mandarin got over his mood swing in no time flat, and he hasn't slipped up since.
He made the honor roll.

And now that all of my requirements are finished, I relax every day.
I'm just waiting on that final birthday.

Mandarin on the other hand, is freaking out.

Because it's prom!!

He didn't have a date, and had an overall bad time. He got in a fight, girls rejected him... the list goes on. But one good thing happened. He met somebody that kind of liked him. The only problem is...

This just wouldn't work.
So Mandarin broke the news to Javier, and moved on pretty quick.

Chris quit his job as a fisherman and took a job as a firefighter. He said he wanted to do more with his life than sit around and fish.
He still gardens though. Every day.
And when everything cooled down, it all stirred up again.

A:Rose, it's been a long time.
R:30 years, Aggie, 30 years ago I came to Sunset Valley. It already feels like a hundred.

A: Speaking of lots of years, Rose... You need to tell him. Tell Mandarin. Tell him everything. Everything is in place for you. Soon it will be his turn. And he doesn't even know. Soon I'm going to die Rose. I feel it in my bones. Every time I hear something, I think it's Grim coming. When I'm gone Rose, tell him. Tell him everything.

R: Agnes...

R: Why when you're gone?

A:Because I'll die the day before he turns 18. And I want him to know then. When he's old enough to understand. So he won't pull in someone he loves to mother the next generation, and hate himself for sacrificing her. So he will have the time to do everything. He will understand then, Rose. Not now, and not years after.

R: Aggie wait!
A: There's no time right now Rose. I have one thing left to do.

*Chapter 10-Victorious*
I taught Mandarin how to drive over the weekend.

R: PUT ON THE BRAKES, PUT ON THE BRAKES, PUT ON THE BRAKES!!!!
M: THIS THING HAS BRAKES?!?

With nothing to do, I found music. It's very soothing.

Chris held me tight for comfort. Why?
It was time.

That was that. The final birthday.

When the party was over, I snuck away as the others cleaned up and led the guests out of the door.
I went to the basement.

I leaned against the back wall. I smacked it, and I heard an echo. I knew why.

With a groan, dust fell from it.

It gaped open like a black hole.

The room was dark, musty, and dark except for two flambeaux. There were stairs, covered with dirt and dust.

It was completely isolated from the rest of the house.
You could only hear the fire crackling.

And the steps creaked.

It was the museum. It had everything. It was the source of the family's power. In a way, just this immortalitized us.

And in a way, we need something else.
I sat down. I carefully raised the fork to my lips. And then I sealed my fate.

And the fate of the next 8 generations.

I hope they understand.

First of all, thanks to everybody for the 400 views.  :)
*Chapter 11-A Different Voice*
Hello, you don't know who I am do you? Well you won't for a very long time.
See, I'll be updating every once in a while, as the time of one heir fades to the next. But it will be centuries before you know my name.
Where Rose left off, the next day was Christopher's birthday.

He was becoming an old man.

And I have to say, it was dissapointing to see he did not age as well as his wife did.

And Mandarin, well little Mandarin was going to be 18 soon. And finally, at the end of his teenage years, he found someone.

Of course, the adults of the house knew nothing of this. He is good at keeping secrets, that boy.
And the day before his eighteenth, Agnes stayed true to her word.

Grim had come to collect.

It broke the hearts of the entire household.

Though it's hard to say who it hit hardest, Rose or the cat.
Rose had put so much faith in Agnes, leaned on her like a crutch when she was ailed by the dynasty.

And the cat, well the cat knew the hand of no other owner.

Agnes begged, but for what, only the Grim knows. Not even I know.
I only know what happens in the realm of the living. I have no connection to the dead.

All anybody knows is that he shook he cruel head, and extended his cold scythe.
This was her time, and what she didn't do before could not be done now.

Dear Agnes Darling, May You Rest In Peace Forever.
..
....
NO! I am not sad for the loss.
I never knew the woman, and quite frankly I don't care. People die. It happens. Some don't. That happens too.
And Rose had a promise to keep.

So when she woke in the middle of the night to hear Agnes's words repeated back to her, she knew she had to do it.
She crept into Mandarin's bedroom. She sat on the edge of his bed and woke him.
And she told him everything.
She told him about the battle against Grim, about her childhood, about the man named Metropolis.
She told him about the work, the sacrifices, and the choice they didn't have.
He had no reaction. Every family has their secrets, his just effected the balance of reality. They had to tip that balance. I cannot tell you everything said between them, but I can give you this excerpt:
M: ..Why? Why does this have to happen?
R: We're changing how the world works Mandarin. I mean look out your window. What do you see?
M: Summer Hill Springs.
R: And beyond that?
M: The science facility.
R: But Mandarin, what you don't see is a whole lot of suffering. And it happens because of Grim. You saw what happened tonight. That was a terrible tragedy. But I have to tell you even worse tragedies happend everyday, all the time, to everybody. We get to live Mandarin, live forever! Don't you see? We're living for the ones who didn't get to!Grim could take all of Sunset Valley, but it would be worth nothing compared to how long we get to live. Grim will always want our souls, Mandarin. But if you just do what you must, he'll never get them!
M: And what does that change, Mother?
R: It changes everything.
She left after those words.
~
The next day was Mandarin's birthday, at long last.

The violin is playing a different tune now.

*Chapter 12-Mandarin Makes His Mark*
Hello, it's me Mandarin. Remember me? The last time I spoke to you was when I was just a child. Not a dynasty child, just a child.
Obviously things have changed.

Dumpling had her birthday. If only Agnes could've seen it...

But don't worry, she did!

That's right, we have ghosts on this lot! A little terrifying if you ask me, what if they come in our rooms at night and eat our brains? I'm telling you, there's a conspiracy going on here! And..
R: MANDARIN! Are you rambling again? Not during the update!
Yes mother...grumble grumble..
I think she just wants me to hurry, it's my graduation today!

I was class Valedictorian, and voted Most Likely To Write A Best-Selling Novel.

Not exactly what I had planned for life but okay.
The next few days were about me working. Yes, I had gotten a job at the diner that I now own. Really though, I want to be a Culinary Librarian. People tell me I'm a natural cook and a really good person. I'm a vegetarian, and according to some I'm neurotic. Reading calms me down.
One day I was Heading to work and I saw her! It was Aisha McGraw, my highschool sweetheart. It was only right for me to do one thing.

Yeah, that's right I married her on the spot! Mom says this is turning into some freaky family tradition, to propose then marry in the same room and same time.

She cleaned up pretty well.

She's a little mean and over emotional, and kind of a loser. But she's good like me and very nurturing. She wants to adopt a unicorn one day, like this one we saw across the street one night.

Dad retired from his job as a Fire Seargeant. He's pushing 90 in a few days.

But until then we bond as a family, and it's great.
I might work most of the day, but when I come home I'm still Mandarin.

Mom's enjoying her eternal life right now, and is spending as much of it as possible with the family.

And Aisha..

Everybody loves her.
She's the cat's only friend and BFF since Aunt Agnes died. She helps Dad tend his garden every day, and has even registered as an official gardener herself. Her and Mom are on pretty friendly terms.
I couldn't ask for a better life right now.
Well maybe I could.

It was late one evening, I was just pulling onto our street after coming home from work when I saw the Dad's specter through the window.

I came through the door just in time to see him meet Grim.

He begged, he begged for more time. It was just so unexpected.
But Grim never knocks twice.

We all died a little that night.

Here Lies Christopher, May He Enjoy His Eternal Rest.
And the worst part is, the few days he begged for, were the ones that would matter most.

*Chapter 13-Walking On Sunshine*
As you saw last update, Aisha was pregnant.

It really cheered up Mother.

Dumpling still got attention though. She's getting old now.

Aisha went and saw (vampire) Dr.Landgraab to see what gender generation 3 would be.
It's gonna be a girl.

And before we even knew it, Aisha was in labor.

Welcome to this world, Sunshine.

And life went back to normal. Mother spent lots of time with her grandaughter, and Aisha did a lot of things.

Sunshine's birthday rolled around soon enough.

And mine.

I fixed my hair immediately, and Sunshine was dressed up like a little doll.
