Mac users: Games Pre-Pets
« on: October 26, 2011, 09:48:10 AM »
For all you lovely Mac users on the forums, I've just been to the official forums and it always gives me a headache trying to figure out what I want to know.  Basically, I have two dynasty files that have been giving me some trouble so I did a complete reinstall yesterday.  The things that have been happening is random error 12s, exceptions being raised and once or twice just downright crashing to desktop.   This is only during previous saves of the game as in from before I installed Pets last week. I didn't have any problems the day of the patch.

Is anyone else having problems?  I know Nicky seems to have been doing ok with her legacy but I can't remember if anyone else has brought up old saves working.

Also, what OS are you guys running?   I haven't upgraded to Lion because of a lot of the issues people were having with it after it came out.  Has everyone upgraded and it's working fine no problems?

I'm on the last version of Snow Leopard and have been having 0 problems. But, I also have not been playing files created pre-Pets, so I'm probably not a good benchmark. The only things I've done are create test files for the short guide articles I have written.

Yeah all new games work great and I can go for a long time with no problems.  It's only the games I had created before Pets came out.  Good to know I'm not the last person using Snow Leopard, too.

I just did not see much reason to upgrade when Lion came out given Snow Leopard was making my iMac zip along just fine. I predict a new iMac line sometime next spring and I'll be in the market then to upgrade. Lion will come preinstalled on those obviously, so all will be even better.

I'm doing okay for now. However, it's by sheer dumb luck. If you want your sims, then my advice is to check carefully before you upgrade. If you have an Intel 3000 HD card then your game will have serious graphics issues. If you have an  Nvidia 320m card like me, then it's about a 50/50 chance. I did notice though that if I didn't save between placing the Pets lots it will create an exception raised error. I have a few random glitches here and there. Gracie Loveland in my Appaloosa Plains was completely glitches with 6 traits and stuck in her work clothes. I think that's a random coincidence though.

Now, I also own an old as the hills bleeding edge first model of Macbook Pros ever. I have upgraded it to Snow Leopard. The irony of it? Runs Sims 3 perfectly. Someone explain me that one.

I'm happy to share my "woes" and how I fix things. Just ask. One thing is certain since Lion I am learning a lot.

Well I'm on an iMac from 2008 and my graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce 8800 GS.  If you need more information just ask.  Like I said I'm on Snow Leopard (10.6.8), and before now I've been very luck with very few glitches.

At this point, in one of my dynasties I'm crashing every couple of Sim hours or win I try to save I get an error 12.  I've done a complete reinstall in the last 24 hours.  I even tried to go back to a save file from before the patch and it's still giving me issues.   A lot of the issues I've been having today seem to revolve around CAS.

I've been thinking about a new computer but it's just not in the works right now.  I would love to be able to save these two files but something in my gut has been telling me that I should stop hoping it will all come out OK.

I knew I shouldn't have installed Pets before it came out but then when I had no issues with the patch for that first 24 hours, I figured what they hey.  Now I can't get the issues to stop and nothing with Pets is installed.

Something a tech guy on the phone with EA about my glitches. He let it loose that I should, "Uninstall the generations patch and not reinstall that patch. It causes issues" I don't know if you'd want to try that or not.

I am doing okay on my games and running better. I saved pennies for 8 gigs of RAM. So when I play I have a full 4 gigs of RAM just for Sims. I do have other weird glitches in my game though.
