game freezing in China
« on: October 24, 2011, 05:20:38 PM »
My game is freezing up in china for a few seconds at a time every 20 seconds or so. It eventually comes back up, but it makes it really hard to play.

I have restarted the game and computer. I have deleted the DCbackup and compositor files. I have installed the game on a different computer. I have started over completely. I have seen this happen elsewhere, but in China, it's REALLY bad.

The animations and sound keeps going, but the clock freezes and you can't move the screen or click anything.

I have no mods or custom content installed. Except for Pets, I have every expansion and stuff pack.

Any thoughts on this?

It's a pathing issue in China that causes the game to overly think.  Next time it happens bring up the cheat console by hitting Shift + Control + C.  Then type in "resetSim *"   This will reset all Sims in China.   There needs to be a space between Sim and the asterisk.  Also, don't use the quotations.   This should work.

I was about to post that it seems to happen much more often at night. Like when Sims might be going home. That makes a lot of sense.

Thanks, I'll try that.

I've experienced the same issue very badly in China last year. So I completely un-installed WA and didn't play for a couple of months but missed martial arts and quests a lot. After installing WA again, the freezing had gone. But it gave me more bugs instead of freezing one.  >:(
Very hard to be escaped from Sims.

One thing I do is this:

When my sims are in their home town I save the game.  Then go into the save game file.  There is a section called "travel"  I move that to the desktop.  If it is over 8k I move it.  The game regenerates it and it keeps excess stuff low.  Don't know if this helps the lag in China tho.

Resetting all the sims seem to have helped.

There's no harm in deleting the TravelDB.package file? On my last game, it was nearly 700 megabytes, so it would be nice to remove it. The current one I have is around 20 MB.

I'm having a similar issue in France.  It started with the freezing, then progressed to making Sims invisible and unplayable.  I've reset the sims repeatedly, but it never seems to completely clear up.

I've run into the problem at home occasionally, but in any WA area, it's been constant.  I've just uninstalled and reinstalled.  Any ideas?

I was also having a freezing problem in china - just in the evenings. After reading another forum someone mentioned pathing issues with the dragon springs lot - my sim had just got stuck there so I saved the lot ( incase it's needed for an adventure) and deleted it - no more lag!

When my Sims are in China the game keeps freezing. After about 30 seconds it becomes playable again. This is the only world where this happens.  Egypt, France and Home run at a good speed and without problems.  I have made no edits in China. I have all EP's up to Showtime installed.  Removed all SP's and have a pretty fast PC.  I tried lowering graphics settings, etc. in Options thinking that might help but game still freezes every couple of minutes.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Do you have any suggestions as to what might be causing this and what I can do to fix.  Game runs perfectly with all options optimized.  China is the only problem.    Thanks for any suggestions.

Welcome to the forum, brappi.  What you are describing is a common issue in China, unfortunately.  We already have a thread discussing this issue, so I'm going to merge this thread with that one.  I think you'll find some ideas there on how to deal with the issue.

Enjoy the forum!

Edit:  For some reason, it won't let me merge the topics.  So here's the link for the other one:  game freezing in China.

Welcome to the forum.

There is a sticky note in the World Adventures section titled How To Fix Pausing Every Few Seconds Without Resetting All Sims that talks about the problem you are having.  We all have this problem in China.

Good luck and Happy Simming.

Schipperke,  Thank you so much for linking me to these threads.  I tried, but unsuccessfully to scroll through the threads and find prior info.  I am new to the site and will get the hang of it soon.
Must tell you I am impressed with this site.  Have been Simming since Sims 1 and Carl's is by far at the top of the list.  Easy to navigate and full of useful information.  Kudos to all of you.
 Thank you again very much.

You're very welcome.  I hope the information will be useful.  There is a Search function at the top of the page, but I know it takes a while to get used to how everything works.

Thanks for the kind comments about the site.  We're pretty proud of it.  :D
