Create a Pet: Coat Editor Complicated?
« on: October 22, 2011, 05:00:21 AM »
Is it just me or is anyone else finding the advanced Coat Editor very complicated? There are so many layers that just don't seem to do anything, also the recolours for not the advanced mode seem to be poor quality and change my Dogs to orange when the colour is brown... I may just need more practice or am missing something vital here?

From my experience with the Create-A-Pet demo, I'd say it's quite complicated.  A person could spend days on a pet and still not get it exactly how he wants it.  I made my two deceased real life cats and then stopped because it very hard to do.  I suppose it would get better with practice.

samoht, I've got problems there as well. When I created a cat, the longer layers of fur were almost completely translucent, and I can't seem to make the sliders do anything... :(

I think the best thing to do is design the Coat on the CAP Breed which have very few Coat Layers and after you've got the colours and pattern you save it, choose the breed and apply the saved coat. I made a good replica of my Lurchers Coat so I think I'm getting better with that method.

So you mean that it's best to design the animal you want on an existing breed, save it to that breed's options, then you can just chose it whenever you like?
Or have I got it wrong?

In Large Dog Breeds there is a CAP Breed which is like an average dog, it's the first option and when you advance recolour it, it only has one base layer, you can add the layers you want, colours etc. Then in that mode you can save the colours/patterns and then you exit, choose your dog breed, then instead of going into advanced search through the pre-made coats until you see the one you saved, apply it and viola. It saves the hassle of removing/searching through layers, unless you just want to change colourings of the breeds coat.
