I haven't had an elder stallion yet so can't answer that.

I'll be able to answer the second question in a day or two.  I sold one foal that was born after the challenge was completed.  But one of my mares is pregnant from after is was completed.  When I sell that one, I can tell.

Oh boy!  Had quite a scare tonight.  It appears my Darcy Ranch save game got corrupted.  Luckily, it would let me load long enough to save a copy of the updated Training Grounds I did to the library as well as a copy of the household with house as well as a copy of them without the house (just in case).

I then started a new Appaloosa Plains game, inserted the Darcy's as well as the Training Grounds and all appears well again.  Phew!  I think it was the training jumps on the ranch that got screwed up.  When I tried using them on the new game, I was getting pathing errors from the horses (although nothing had moved).  So I deleted them and put all new ones in and no problems with pathing.  I would have been VERY upset to have lost it all.

Here's a little update.  Alexander, the son, has matured into a young adult and is quite the competitor.  Also, the daughter of an old family friend, Fiona Lathrop, has come to stay with them as she wants to learn more of the horse business.  As a result, Alexander and Fiona are getting on like a house on fire and are now going steady.  Alexander had already talked to his father about buying the empty piece of land next door and building a house of his own.  So he's saving all of his winnings toward that goal.  In preparation for that time, they've added a second stallion to the ranch.  Alexander is working with him every day.  Fitzwilliam has given Alexa to Alexander as well so he'll have a stallion and mare to get started.

I've got a nice idea for the house that I'll build as well.  Am looking forward to it!

Dellena,

Aww thanks Dellena, that was a really big help. I would have never thought you could remove the walls after putting the roof on so thanks for telling me how to do it :-). I am excited to build my new and improved barn :-D.

I use the same method for covered porches on a house.  I enclose the porches so I can get the roof on nicely, then delete the walls and replace with the fences.

If your stallion gets a mare pregnant, and while she is pregnant, or even when the foal is already born, he completes one of the challenges, does the foal sell at a higher price too? Or does it only count if the stallion completed the challenge before? I hope you get what I'm trying to ask here, it's not that important to me anyway, just been wondering.

I have the answer now:

Foal 1:  Conceived before sire attained Champion Racehorse but born after.  Sale price with Untrained trait = 9k
Foal 2:  Conceived after sire attained Champion Racehorse.  Sale price with Untrained trait = 15k

So it appears they have to have completed that skill challenge before conception for it to count. :)

Your outcome sounds logical to me, it really would be a bug if it wasn't that way I assume.

You have not inserted the whole URL of the Image. This is the URL you've inserted:

Code: [Select]

But it should be something like this:

Code: [Select]

Except you use the URL from whichever Image Hosting Service you used. I used the Gallery.

Welcome to our Forum, DoubleWe.  I noticed that you've registered for our Gallery to host your Sims 3 pictures.  I just want to make sure you've seen the instructions and information page that explains how to use the Gallery for posting images here.  In your earlier posts, you used the attachment option, which is actually to be used only for attaching files for the Swap Shop.  If you have any problems using the Gallery, let us know and I'm sure someone will be able to help you.

Hello, I'm new here but I just had to tell you that I have really enjoyed reading about your facility!  I have been playing my ranch for a little while and seem to be stuck and I was hoping you might be able to help me.

I see that you started with one stallion and three mares right?  How do you breed the offspring?  Can half-siblings mate? If not how are you getting new stock in?

I'm at the point now where my I want to keep a colt and a filly I really like to add to my breeding stock but they are half-siblings and like you I don't want to use "mixed" horses and I'm not sure how to add another horse I have created.  I can't create someone with a horse for my sim to marry either because she is already married.  Any suggestions?

If they are related (sibling, son, daughter, father, mother), they can't mate.

However, it's fairly easy to add a new horse that you've created.

Go into Edit Town and then Create a Sim.

Then click on the premade button and change the human sim to a horse.  From there, customize your horse to your heart's content.  When you're done, click on the checkmark.  You'll get a message saying that this sim can't be placed on a lot alone but they can be merged to an existing household.  So click the checkmark again.  Then select your new horse from the library and place them in your existing household and merge.

Presto!  You have added a new, unrelated horse to your household. :D

I started with 3 horses. All pure blooded Andalusians (as much as the game allows). I tried really hard to make them appear right.

Mephisto (my black stallion) and Kalista (the dun horse) got their first foal and because I was so surprised of her sudden appearance her name is Grace.

The other mare is a (hopefully) typical Andalusian because the most common coat color is grey. Cassiopeia is expecting her first foal either.

Andalusian are the best horses in "advanced dressage". They learn very fast and are very obedient.

Here's the Alexander Darcy ranch latest addition, Stargazer (fast, agile, untrained):

He's a beauty!

Wow ... that little foal truly is beautiful! What "kind" of a horse is it? A thoroughbred?
