Chapter Two: Being Chosen
Argh. Why does the game have to crash? "Appaloosa is a great neighborhood."
"Aww. Do you want me to play in Appaloosa Plains?"
"Yes it's a great neighborhood."
"Ok. Just for you, buddy."
Hmm. What do I want to play? What do I want to play? I want to play….. a legacy. Yeah let's do a legacy. Just gotta wait for this load bar to finish.. Oh Hey! The game has plastic surgery now. I wonder how many people are going to give Arlo a new jaw and Chris new lips.
-drumming of fingers-
Oh hey. I don't remember ever making a Sim with purple hair before. Let's see what's her traits. Ok, weird. I know I haven't made a new Sim since I got Pets so how does she have the animal lover trait already?
-mouse clicking-
No name so how about Opal? No, she doesn't look like an Opal. I know. I'll use the new name randomizer.
-sound of dice roll from game-
Lilac Manastorm? Really? That's one step away from beating Torgo Pendragon. Why is Manastorm so familiar? No telling. Alright, let's get her clothes fixed up to her favorite color. Oh wow. The formal dress the game gave her is actually kind of rocking. A Gheez pattern on the nightgown like so. Recoloring of bathing suit. Hrm. Do I give her sunglasses? Nah, why cover up those gorgeous giant eyes? Ok I think we're ready. And away we go!
~*~*~*~*~*~
…legacy…I could feel the energy seep into the whole room as everyone seemed to become alert. Even the old red guy stopped talking to himself when a word was spoken from what sounded like the ceiling. I didn't actually catch the word because I was deep into my own thoughts. It's in hindsight I realized I should have known something was happening.
The reason I even knew something was happening at the time it happened was because one moment I was calculating in my head the possibility of returning to my former short, cute and cuddly self and the next moment Natalie was shoving me onto the carpet in front of the mirror. I'm not sure it's explainable what happened next.
As soon as my feet touched the carpet, a light seemed to come on from the corner I had just been in, except now that corner was empty. No Natalie. No Creepy Old Lady. No Antone. Not even the old red guy. After a moment, it felt like I was being watched. Actually, I wouldn't describe it as watched. It was more like I was being summed up by someone. It was as if they could see into the inner most recesses of my mind.
This feeling of being chosen for something came over me about the same time as I experienced the oddest sensation of my strange little life. Then I heard the old lady's voice in my head. "Say your name!"
"Lilac Manastorm." I was confused as to why that was important. Apparently it was just the next step because then as if by some magical force, and not any that I was familiar with, my clothes started to change shape, size and color. Not that the new color was bad. It was my favorite. Then the weird feeling got weirder because I changed outfits without ever getting naked. It was slightly violating but not really all at the same time.
The second outfit was one I recognized from something I had in my other life. I remember giving a lot of valentines to a lot of ugly guards to get it, too. It didn't look exactly the same but it was very close to the one I wore when we were dancing in the SW fountain.
The next three outfits went through the same process as the first one did until finally it felt as if everything was exactly as it should be. The final results of each category caused me to be at peace like this was how it was supposed to be.
I had a moment to embrace that feeling of rightness before everything went pitch black around me. It wasn't like I had blacked out, it was something different this time. There was just nothingness.
And then there wasn't.
