There is info on the TS3 forums that the cat not being able to train hunting may be related to a premium store item - the spell book that comes with the Gothic Library.  I wonder if it is the same issue manifesting with teaching dogs to hunt.
I do not have the spell book at all and my cat is about to reach level 9 in hunting, having no trouble raising it... I know that's not really empirical evidence, but it supports the current theory.

After reading here and on the forums about the possible connection with the spell book, I went back to my folder and deleted my DCBackup folder and cleared all the caches you normally would (again).  The spellbook and the fountain didn't like each other and that worked for them, too.  I can still use my fountain, spellbook and now my cats and dogs are becoming hunters! Whoo!

Awesome!  It's good to know that works!

Nope.  Deleting DCBackup file and gothic library with the spellbook did squat. ???  Still couldn't train dog to hunt...the blue plus signs are there, the level never moves on the tube. :(  Oh well, I can always hope for a patch.  If this is the worst Pets can hurl at me, I can live without training. :D

Hello!

There was already a thread on this it just hasn't been messaged on for a day or two.  Here is the link.   My own solution is down a few posts and there might be something else you can try.

What other caches can I clear?

Where do I look for info on the spellbook and what can be done with it? I've never seen it and I'm intrigued. I'm pretty sure it's not in my sims but I have almost all ep's. [sorry for off topic, just point me the right way pretty please]

If you're on a Mac, you can clear the four cache files mentioned in that link I did and your entire DCbackup folder and that's about it.

If you're on a PC, you can do something about world caches as well but I'm on a Mac so I don't know as much about them.

I also tend to remove all the package files in the Thumbnails folder on occasion.

Do I have to uninstall the spell book so I can train my dog to hunt or do have to do something else?

Where on the computer is this cashe thing?  I'm not very computer savy, so please explain.  I have the glitch with the spell book and have chosen to play a townie family rather than my own because of it.

It is under my documents. But I think it is best if you go to technical help board and read the thread, 'how to clean up your game' Sorry I don't post the link I don't kow how.

I just posted on another thread, that I deleted all premium content, chimes, spell book and fountain and the dogs and cats can hunt and it actually records it now.   :)

I don't know if it makes a difference, but I kept all my premium content (including the spell book) and just deleted the DCBackup folder and the caches as Rica had mentioned.  I have had no problem with my sim's dog learning to hunt.  I don't have any of the premium content in my game file, but just having it installed and available doesn't seem to be harming dog training.
